"Because I'm Not Ready..."

"Kiss me"

😀

(Why hasn't this happened yet?)

Apparently this should've happened way back in 'Enemies'- it's in the script that they kiss on the lips (and both actresses were willing 🙂 ) but the WB wouldn't allow it. 🙁

We know that Buffy and Faith could have easily brought down the high school, never mind a house. 😀

Their the most popular non-official 'ship for a reason, after all.
They fought all the time because they weren't 'allowed' to do anything else. 🙂

Anyway, more realistically maybe something along the lines of 'I forgive you', or 'I'll never forget you' or 'This makes it better.' (answering Faith's 'Just tell me how to make it better.' comment from 'Sanctuary')

Dear god love how long ago was it?? I haven't got time for that. Also that was the point of spoiler boards. They were secret place that had links within organizations etc. I know the JM fandom did. 🙂

Doesn't matter how long ago it was, hardcore fans can find a source for anything (handy tip, book mark them, like I do, to save yourself some googling time later)

This is laughable. You deny cannon cuz it happened in the comics, but you take word of mouth from some randomer, who happens to love JM, on the internet as gospel?
Nonsense. This isn't true, if it can't be backed up by quotes (all it takes is a google search) it didn't happen.

Sorry to sound big headed or whatever, but if this were true I'd have heard it before, I asked some other hardcore fans, and no one had heard this titbit. There is very little information I'm surprised by about BtVS, we've heard it all. It would be one thing if we were fans of the show and googled it and tumblred it, but some of us have been on these boards for, well what feels like forever, we have discussed every topic and poured over every quote and article. This piece of information is factually incorrect with other quotable and source identifiable pieces of information.

Spike was a possibility for a spin off.
Spike was a possibility for the Faith spin off.
If the WB wanted a Buffy regular on the show, having Spike in flashbacks wouldn't have given him enough screentime to be a viable draw for the show.

And if your going to just take people on the internet for their word have I told you I'm prince of Ireland, but can't access my billions of Euros at the moment, if you give me your bank account details I can send the money to you, that way I could access it, and I'll split it 50/50.
You could buy James Marsters for that!

I was in the minority. My friends all gave up on them pretty damn quickly.

And have you been on Tumblr? They post about every damn thing from their Cats to what they've eaten for dinner, so brief posts about watching Buffy is nothing special to this crowd.

Thats fine, but thats still not actual data.

I dont think it was just that more Buffy fans bought the Buffy comics, More Angel fans bought the Angel comics and more Willow fans bought the Willow comics, while the Spike fans turned up their nose.
Actual sales figures like that is a much better representation of the fanbase than who you follow on Tumblr.

Sorry sweetie, you weren't part of the Spike/JM fandom back then and so you have no idea what went down. We did everything behind locked down boards back then for obvious reasons, most of which don't exist anymore.

I'm afraid I can't be arsed to argue the toss any further. Life's far too short. 🙂

As to the rest I suggest you go and look on Tumblr and see what I mean. The place is driven by their tagging system, so It's easy to use.

And as I said Spike fans would have stuck/bought the Spike comics If they'd been any damn good. They were crap and so folks drifted away from them very quickly.

If anything, it proves that a kind of a verse-fan that likes/appreciates Tumblr also happens to be into 'what you mean'. Seriously. I looked up Tumlr once or twice , but could not be bothered to install it or learn the ropes because it seems to be designed for the folks with more of visual than readable persuasion and because it is all about <3 !!! like-approve/not approve than about argumentation as to 'why' I <3 or not. It is OK to use/like Tumblr, but to argue that because majority of the selected group of fans of BtVS who happen to appreciate Tumble happen to be 'what you mean' is kind of groundless.

Not really. Imo the Buffy fandom is very small these days and the most active outpouring appears to be on there sadly.

Tumblr has many fanoms on there and your casual fan seems to prefer it to use it compared to old school fans who traditionally went onto fan forums to express themselves.

To me the Buffy fan-fiction sites seem to be the most active. Dozens of stories are still posted, reviewed and commented on per month. Not just 'shipping fic as well, there's alternate universe stuff/crossover fics, RPG stuff, character analysis.
The whole thing is very active, even today so many years on. 🙂

No sweetie, I was part of a broader community not dedicated to one person.
But congrats on being part of the only community on the internet that managed to find that news and keep it to themselves for all eternity, having it never mentioned by anyone connected to the show.

I'm sure it's true. Thanks for your unconfirmable input to the conversation that no one will take seriously.

I understand how Tumblr works, which is why I know its irrelevant.

No network execs will be saying "Lets cancel this show" "No we can't look at all the reposts it's getting on Tumblr" any time soon.

And as I said Spike fans would have stuck/bought the Spike comics If they'd been any damn good. They were crap and so folks drifted away from them very quickly.
Ah yes I forgot the Spike fans physic ability, no wonder they weren't arsed to pick up issue no.1, they already knew it'd be crap.
But you've missed the point entirely (dont worry I dont expect you to get it at this point) loads of fans gave up on the comics, not just Spike fans, so the numbers are still representative of the fanbase.

But dont worry you clearly aren't bothered to try and see what anyone else is saying, just repeating yourself over and over.

Anyway I'm off to the secret-underground-locked-down-password-protected-exclusive-encrypted Clem Club, for all my secret Clem news. Clem was going to kill Spike and be Buffys next love interest, FACT! I can't give you a source for that though, we heard it directly from someone who's friends with Whedons dog. I've already said too much, this news was for us hardcore clemies, and wasn't supposed to get out. First rule of Clem Club: "Dont talk about Clem Club!" (Second rule: "Believe everything!", Third rule: "We only wear grey on Wednesdays" )

Clem and Buffy would be the only 'ship for her that would stand a chance of lasting.

Okay, to paraphrase Buffy but at this point you're just abusing sarcasm! Funny though, and to the point. 😀

Unconfirmable news has a name, its called rumour. As in crap, as in you can pull anything you want out of your ass and say, 'oh, this was on a secret board which only Spike fans know about'. 🙄

And I think the comics are a very good representation of fan bases, there are a lot of Spike fans on some of the boards (its how I first came into contact with the strange creatures known as 'Spuffy's'- mostly dogmatic, delusional and absent of a sense of humour. 😛 )
but there are far more Buffy, Angel and Faith fans- y'know, the ones with their own comic. 🙂
Interestingly there was talk/rumour of a 'Willow/Spike' comic being released, to appeal for openly to their fanbase but I'm not sure, that might've been what their 'seperate arcs' were for- to test the fan appeal.

(Or maybe I read it on my secret 'Spillow' fan boards, the ones where they reckon JM is so dreamy that even lesbian wicca's find him attractive...or maybe, y'know, not. 😉)

I do enjoy a bit of sarcasm! Agreed on everything else.

He's bluffing. I know for a fact that Whedon doesn't have a dog.

Well I like to try and keep up to your standards hon. 😀

I understand how Tumblr works, which is why I know its irrelevant.

Sorry but whats that got to do with anything? No fan forum or board, except maybe the old Bronze beta had that 'honor' or attention from TV folk. What Tumblr, (like facebook) do is act as a kind of sounding board for how popular a TV show or personality is. Like the whole Loki/Tom Hiddleston thing on Tumblr.

No sweetie, I was part of a broader community not dedicated to one person.
But congrats on being part of the only community on the internet that managed to find that news and keep it to themselves for all eternity, having it never mentioned by anyone connected to the show.

Oh but thats the point of spoiler coms, they're, you know secret, but hey you obviously know best sweetie. 🙂

Ah yes I forgot the Spike fans physic ability, no wonder they weren't arsed to pick up issue no.1, they already knew it'd be crap.

As I said many hard core Spike fans started buying the comics when they first came out, but cited bad characterization/writing as the reasons they drifted away.

I love Spike, but christ those comics stunk up the joint imo. But hey what ever floats your boat. 🙂

For your information hon and In a mad moment I actually went onto places such as Whedonesque yesterday to look for old links, but they were all dead. But then considering how long ago this all happened I'm not surprised, are you? Also do you realise that back then some forums had locked down sections that weren't visible to the public gaze unless you were a member? Nah, I guess not. 🙂

But then judging by how you talk you obviously weren't around, or went to the same boards I belonged to way back then.

Sorry for OT. Silverspike, are you the same Silverspike that reblogged days ago a video behind the scenes of BTVS that I posted on tumblr?

Can you say what the vid was called exactly. I do have a general Buffy blog and repost bucket loads of stuff to keep folks interested on there. 😀

Oh and yes, and I'm called Silverspike on Tumblr too.

Point me to the Whedonesque links, maybe I can track it down (well prove it doesn't exist, lets be honest).
What was the name of this super secret Spike forum? Was it We Band of Buggard?

But yes, I am surprised. Why can I find any point I've ever needed to back up reference somewhere? Dont worry if you can't, some of us that have been doing this a long time are old pros now. Point me to the Whedonesque links, I'll have a look?

And absolutely some references are harder to find, but they aren't impossible, it's the internet, nothing is ever gone.
The hardest thing I had to find was that quote from fury comparing Spuffies to women who marry murderers in prison, that was pretty much the only one I've had to search for ages for to find the direct quote, that was on the Bronze forums, which is gone, but yet the direct quote can still be found out there now.

The fact you can't find any mention of this, neither can I, and the fact that Whedon had plans involving Spike just means this can't be true.

Also do you realise that back then some forums had locked down sections that weren't visible to the public gaze unless you were a member? Nah, I guess not. 🙂
It's not the idea of locked down forums I find preposterous, it's the idea of locked down information. Especially in fandom.

I think this is a made up piece of information, either by someone else, or something you've gotten confused. Maybe your mixing up the fact that Angel was supposed to stay dead after season 2, but was brought back in season 3.
Bit of a coincidence that a direct story that is about Angels character happened to Spikes character 5 years later?

But then judging by how you talk you obviously weren't around, or went to the same boards I belonged to way back then.
Well seeing how the forums you were a member of clearly didn't require sources, facts or backed up information I'm not surprised they are gone now. Whereas somewhere like here, were members expect sources, are still going.
I'm glad I was never a member, and instead I'm part of a board where people can prove their information and have been for a very long time.

So I decided to go and do some thorough searching on this, so we could put in to bed and show what was wrong with the statement.
I can find no mention, at ALL that Spike was to appear only in Flashbacks in Angel season 5, I've seen it mentioned he was to be a recurring character, as he was going to be in one of the other spin offs, but either way the intention was ALWAYS to bring him back. Joss never intended to keep him dead as you stated.

http://www.tvguide.com/news/Buffys-Loss-Angels-36807.aspx - Oct 2002, Joss says that if Buffy ends some characters may move over but doesn't say which
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/15757 - News article about leaked Angel season 5 episode 2 script where Spike is a "ghost", published July 30th (just over a month after he burned up)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/buffy/interviews/joss2003/page4.shtml interview question from around the time the final aired saying they have a surprise for Angel season 5 that gets started in the Buffy final (I presume he means Spike)

http://www.tvguide.com/news/Buh-Bye-Buffy-38495.aspx - Oct 2002, Whedon first mentions the series may be in it's last season and the possibility of a Faith spin off.

That ones important as Time Minear has stated that Spike was to be the second lead in the Faith Spin off.
So the idea was Spike would be the second lead on Faith and could recur on Angel - that doesn't sound like Joss wanted him kept dead.

When Faith didn't pan out he was going to be male lead in the Slayer School spin off.

The only recurring FACT is that no matter what Spike was never staying dead, and no one mentions flashbacks.

And just to back everything up with sources, you can listen to the full podcast of Tim Minear and David Fury http://mp3bear.com/succubus-club-dfury-tminear
The bits about Spike ALWAYS intended to be on whatever spin off happens is at around minuet 60, but here are some quick paraphrased quotes:
(on brining on spike) "it was a no brainer"
Minear:"I was gonna create it with Joss (Faith Spin off), we'd figured it out"
"Whether there was talks of Faith, or Slayer School or whatever, we are gonna keep James employed"
"He was gonna be the second lead in the Faith series, or the Male lead in the School for Slayers thing"
"Whatever was going to happen, James was going to be a part of it"
"It was always our intention to bring Spike over (the Angel), but not as a regular, but that was one of the things that pushed the network to pick up the show"
"The WB said 'can you make him a regular', and we said 'will that help the show get picked up?'"
"None of the plans we made for Angel, none of the set ups have changed"

That quote alone disproves any notion that Spike was to "stay dead", while James mentioned at a convention on January 2003(4 months before the final aired) that he read the final script : "I finally found out myself what Joss is planning...and I'm SURE as hell not gonna tell you guys...but I will tell you guys that the end of this season is going to be...very romantic...very heartbreaking...and you guys are probably going to HATE it"
http://whedonesque.com/comments/712

Which means that by the earliest (January) Spike was dying, yet there had already been talk 3 months earlier of the Faith spin off that Spike would second lead. The Faith spin off was shot down sometime between February/March and May, While Slayer School has never had a timeline and hadn't really seemed to have gotten past the pitching phase (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/14787), and around the time Faith was shot down discussions started for Spike to move to Angel as a regular, helping the WB to pick it up.

So if you can get me those links for the "staying dead" and "flashbacks" I'd love to take a look, but as you can see from my source filled data (how it's done here) it doesn't seem like it's out there.

Jesus christ hon. I think I'll leave you to it. Life too short to trail through all that crap and I for one can't give you any more then I have apart from name a few boards all this was discussed on at the time as this was information discussed between posters, and not on any new site. Sites I used to hang about on and where spoilers were discussed...

The old Forum for fans (Buffy and then AtS section).

The yahoo group (the Bloody awful poets society) long since closed.

Sparklies (also gone)

Cold Dead Seed (still going)

Also I suspect that whatever I came up with you'd dismiss it.

Cool, no problem, at least anyone else reading the thread wont be lead astray by misinformation now.

I absolutely would not dismiss it, if you can factually prove me wrong I'll gladly hear it, especially in an instance like this which isn't based on an opinion. If it's factually correct I'd take it on as fact, I asked you to give me sources cuz I'd actually like to know the fact. The trusth as far as I can see gives no merit to your claim.

The only reason I decided to so actively prove you wrong, was your condescending tone (hon and sweetie are incredibly condescending, even if you dont mean them to be), and your "We hardcore fans all know" attitude, if your not willing to do your research and back up your arguments, you may need to check the attitude, otherwise you gets fans who can back up their claims running rings around you in a discussion.

Look hon, I can't back up private discussions made behind locked boards 10 odd years ago and which don't exist anymore. Get it?

The only reason I decided to so actively prove you wrong, was your condescending tone

Christ that a laugh, have bothered to even read back your own posts to me since I got back on this board?.

God anyone would think a mans life depended on this the way you bang on about all this.
