Being an adult rocks

I agree with what you've said here... And in my opinion, you're not truly an adult until you move out of your parents' house and have to rely solely on yourself for income/necessities/etc. When you do that, it really becomes apparent whether or not your parents did their job preparing you for life as an adult, you know?
HisMrs, normally I think you talk a lot of shit but in this thread you're spot on mate 🙂

Until you've lived away from your parents and been financially independent for a while you are not living an adult life at all. Life requires a lot of self-management.
When I read the first post I was thinking "Is this dude ME!? So much in common."

I've been waiting to say "My house, my rules" since the beginning of my teens. And I never deny myself anything. Which is wonderful, but had lead to me gaining a lot of weight and being in debt. But I still love my life.
I don't think doing/eating what you want has to lead to putting on weight or debt. Obviously when you first get your own place you're going to eat rubbish all of the time and slob out but you eventually get bored of it and instead do it occasionally. Certainly the things I listed in my first post are not particularly regular (apart from drawing a cock and balls in the shower steam) incidents for me because I'd become sick of them. It's like when you OD on your favourite biscuits by eating three packs in a week- you avoid them for eons making them taste even better when you eventually go back. Self moderation is just something that happens naturally as you get older, and I'm glad it does otherwise I might ruin my toned, sexy physique that brings all of the girls to the yard.

Financially, you just need to live within your means. When I made tiny amounts of money I spent very little on myself after bills etc were paid for but it still felt great because it was my money and I could spent it on whatever I wanted. Nobody else, girlfriends or mates could tell me what to do with it which I loved. Now I make quite a bit I still do the same, except after bills are paid 50% goes in savings and 50% goes on holidays, eating out (meals you dirty git) and overpriced yet wonderful Apple products. Heed my words and you can make a little money go very, very far. It's my speciality- if you want more advice send me a PM and I can help you out 🙂

LOL Well thanks. :P
I grew up with a very strict set of rules concerning TV, internet, clothes and going out. There probably would have been rules about dating, but I never really tested that during my teens, lol. Boarding school was even worse in that respect. Consequently, I of course led a sort of double life, sneaking out of windows, telling my mum I was staying with friends she approved of when I was really off smoking and drinking my head off at other friends' places. I left the house in the clothes she had bought for me and changed at my friend's place and basically betrayed her trust right, left and centre.

It was a natural reaction I suppose, and I never got found out (I told her about some of the stuff I did a few years ago when she was worried about my sister, I guess I was sort of trying to tell her "Look, it's normal, I did all that s*** and somehow I turned out ok", but it didn't really have the desired effect of calming her down - quite the opposite actually, she was really hurt and shocked). I'm not really mad at my parents, after all they loved me and meant well, but sometimes I can't help but wonder how I would have turned out if I didn't have to fight so hard for every little bit of freedom. I never did anything really bad when I was a kid, but I did some stuff that I'm not necessarily proud of, and I wonder what would have happened if, instead of preaching abstinence, my parents had taught me how to drink responsibly.

So back on topic..... I love how last night, lil ol adult me went and got ice cream at 9 pm and no one could tell me not to east it cause it was too close to bedtime.

Double dip brownie fudge sundae with chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream = best invention ever.

little adult you must not care about what you east or right
Obviously I meant eat your words.

As an adult, I can also choose to have HORRIBLE friends who tease you about your evil auto correcting phone's choice of words when you post, belittle your state, and refuse to join in for musical rogers and hammerstein fun. And no one can tell me not to.

Ours is a love/hate relationship.

Going out with friends for dessert at one thirty in the morning at the local diner is definitely a perk of being an adult. Though I have to say, I've been pretty sick with stomach blech-iness for that last two weeks, and having to take care of/feed yourself while essentially bedridden is really not all that great. Thank God my parents' house is only an hour away 🙂

My favorite part about being an adult is having my own space. When I lived home with my dad, even when I was a married woman and we were living with him, he just could not seem to grasp the concept of personal space and knocking on closed doors before barging in. I hated that!!

I didn't have many restrictions growing up, but I can say I do prefer my privacy since living away from home, and knowing it's my place and all that jazz.

That's sweet of you, but I know what I'm doing wrong. I'm just too lazy, in love with food and collectibles to get off my ass and get some structure in my life.

I got the tools to build my life, yada yada self help books speech but that sounds like something that can wait. 😛 😀

I'm 22. I figure that I don't need to grow up until I'm like... well, never actually, but I swear, when I hit 25, I will... Meh, we'll see what happens. I spent several years of my teens, dreaming of getting a life, career, a hot body (I was a chubby kid is now fat adult, and no, I wasn't asking for empathy) feeling so stressed out that I wouldn't ever get any of that, believing that if I failed and didn't get high grades, I would get nowhere in life. Then around 16-18 I said "screw it" and just stopped caring as much. I stopped thinking looking perfect mattered, where I went to school, finding Mr. Right, getting a exciting creative job, etc etc. I started to get lazy (which I already was, but at least before then I had some motivation).

Right now, on a scale of ten (planning every minute of my day, running around working, working out, trying to get THE BEST job and find Mr. Right) and one (being a junkie who lives on the street) I'm around four. So I should probably aim higher... I can't really use the "I was so stressed as a teen" excuse anymore. 😉

...Did I have a point? I got lost there somehwere...

I've got news for you kids, who think adults are lucky,
Own their own cars and everything's just ducky,
Going to bed whenever they want to,
If that's what you think I got a flash for you.
It's better than that, take Saturday and multiply it
Times 54 add 30 more. It's better than that.

We have a chocolate éclair about as big as your head,
Just before noon before we get out of bed.
We do the things you're not allowed to do,
And then we do things you haven't thought of too.
Hang on to your hat, hang on to your baloney sandwich.
Take 50 grand to Disneyland. It's better than that.

And if you think that our days are extra warm and sunny,
A big pile of toys, a pocketful of money,
With nothing to fear because we're big and tall,
We're never in school because we know it all.
It's better than that, more comfy than a secret hideout.
By quite a bit, just think of it, it's better than that.

America [end]

Couldn't find it on YouTube... :/

i dont agree that beeing adult rocks, i whish i could be 16 again 😀 (26 now)

here in germany we arent alowed to drive a car till the age of 18, but we can buy beer by the age of 16.

but the beeing older part is not the problem for me, its the whole "afford your own life" that suxx.

when i lived with my parents, i had a summerjob every year, earning something around 2k$ a month, which was prettymuch money i could waste for whatever i want to 😀

but if you rent a own apartment, and have to pay for all the other stuff too, like water, electricity, internet and so on, there isnt much money left to spend for recreational purposes.

im still studing to become an engineer (will have my bachelors degree in feb12 [at least i hope so]) so i have to work 20hours a week, in addition to the curriculum, to make enogh money to pay all my bills and save a couple bucks every month.

my parents support me with 500€ a month, but that does not even cover the rent and electricity/water bill.

and saving money to buy a car, and especialy finace it, is a hard thing here in germany.
you USAs with your "driving gas gulping cars" lifestyle would prpbly get a heart attack if you would know the gas prices here in germany....
and the problem is even worse because we dont have a speedlimit in most parts of the motorways, so the mpg ratio is skyrocketing. (driving slow is not an option hrhr)

one positive thing is that you can smoke weed when your grown up, which isnt a good idea to do during the adolecent phase of your body, because is negatively effects the development of the brain. and its even better if you have your own apartment, cus i know there are a lot of parents that are nazis about smoking weed and swallowing all the governmental prejudice like "genetic engineered mariuhana nowadays is more strong than heroin" and all that kinda crap...
im glad to have open minded parents, so i never had to lie about smoking pot😀

Thing is, you guys use a lot less gas than we do. Our country is a hell of a lot bigger. To take a train fom my atate to my twin's, it takes 54 hours...
I opened up my Easter egg today and ate the Rolos. And then I thought of this thread straight away! 😀

I might just eat the whole thing. Because. I. Can!

Every stage of life has good and bad things about it. What matters most is how you chose to look at it. Me for example need to get much better at looking at the positive things in my life. Being a kid was great at times and unbelievable boring other times with rules and such. I'd never want to go back to being a teenager though. No longer a kid but not an adult, still too many rules, teasing, homework, hormones and next to no privacy.

If I could I'd easily eat too much easter candy this weekend. If I had the money to buy it or travel "home" and get spoiled by family. On the bright side. I don't need anything unhealthy and I got quite a few days for myself (which I'm looking forward to) trying to get myself together

I have years to go before i'm an adult. I actually cannot wait. One time, my parents left me home alone for 4 hours because they had to take my sister somewhere and it was beyond fun! I had a bath full of bubble bath gel stuff and stayed in there for ages. (i'm never allowed to stay in the bath for ages normally. my mum just shouts and bangs on the door, so i usually have showers.) then i had to make dinner, and i had some of a rice packet mixed with crumbled up cookies. i also made a drink from a variety of fruit juices. then i watched paranormal activity in the dark. it was too awesome 🙂

I contend that there's no such thing as am adult. Just a bunch of large children.

What I love about being an adult is pants are optional, I can stay up if I want to, I can get completely smashed and walk home, and go get my car in the morning. I can eat my dessert first (that's one of my mom's favorite things) I can own my own pets, I can go shopping if I want to. I love being old enough to do virtually anything I want.

The responsibility of being an adult sucks sometimes. Taxes, insurance, all the crap you. ! have to pay sucks! And I hate getting tickets I can't pay... Got another one the other day. 🙁

But I love the my car, my rules thing. No one can smoke in my car because I quit. If all I want to listen to is Michelle Branch on repeat or OMWF no one can change it! It's amazing and I love it.

My house I share with people, so I can't make all the rules, but I love having the rules I have. I like to tell kids to get off my lawn. I also enjoy telling the geese that land in my yard to get a job. Being an adult is fun...
