I'm thinking ahead to my 40th birthday in a few years, and wondering what I want to do for it. I want to go away I think. I've never been one for parties so definitely not that.

What have you done for big birthdays?

I went to Las Vegas for my 21st, to Chicago for 25th, but stayed local for 30, a spa, shopping and oddly canoeing trip!

40??
Most i've ever done on a birthday is have a pub lunch.

I'm sure you'll have a blast whatever you do.

I'm really tempted by New York, we were going to go for my mother's 60th but covid happened so it didn't get booked. So we could look at going for my 40th instead and see Niagara Falls as well. Which is a bucket list place for me.

That sounds like a lovely idea
I vote for New York City & Niagra Falls. Been to both. I'd also suggest hitting the Canadian side while yer there

How easy is it to do in a day? I'm thinking it's a flight trip rather than a bus? If its more than 3 hours I'm not going to be able to persuade my mother to go!

Well the Niagara Falls area could very easily be done in a day, but the drive there would be like 6+ hours!
Yeah, I'd definitely fly to the Falls, er more likely nearby Buffalo. That's only like 20-30 minutes from the Falls

Have you ever considered going on a cruise? About 20 of the guys I hang with but not me (the bachata group) are going on a Caribbean cruise in a few weeks. There are river cruises that are more local to you and they advertise no kids and no casinos, which may be your style.

If you do go to New York, I always say you have to see at least one Broadway show while you're there. Doesn't have to be a musical if that's not your thing, there's always some brilliant plays running, too. I'm just a theatre nerd, so the thought of being in NY and not taking advantage of one of the largest theatre scenes in the world is wild to me!

You must be in sync with my mother, she sent me a link for a New York to Bahamas cruise, via Niagara Falls.
I'd rather just do New York, I think there's plenty to do over a week, with going to the falls too.

Yeah IMHO a Bahamas cruise & New York trip seems like kind of odd combo? 😵

She saw some cruise and thought it had a stop over in New York but no, it's departing/returning port was New York and it had several at sea days. I've persuaded her that a week in New York will be much better.

NYC is such a kool place!
Probably more of the same. A cake and a pub lunch. But if i said i wanted to go somewhere for my 40th it is possible i may get my wish. Maybe a forest holiday at centreparcs or something! 🙂

Do it! Start saving and get somewhere booked.
I'm back to being undecided with this. There's so many countries I'd like to see.
