Are there any Buffy - Giles shippers here? (And is that the right smoosh for this ship?)
I know there are many Biles shippers in the fandom, but I do not get it. One of the things I love most about the show is Giles fatherly love for Buffy - men being fatherly is really appealing to me. Imagining them in a romantic pairing is just so not even remotely sensible.
I remember seeing one article defending this ship, where I kept thinking that the author was just misinterpreting everything.
Anyway here is just a partial list (work in progress) of all the signs on the show (in random order) that conclusively establish a father-daughter, not romantic, relationship between them:
Giles looks repulsed during Hush when he (and the others) think that Buffy is making an obscene gesture.
The Mayor to Giles: "That's one spunky girl you've raised."
Travers: "You have a father's love for the child." And cleaning her wounds with a decidedly fatherly look of tenderness on his face.
Buffy asks Giles to give her away when she thinks she is marrying Spike; and Spike says that Giles is almost his father in law.
They almost never touch each other, especially during the first three seasons.
Both of them have romantic attachments with other people.
Giles moves away from Buffy during The Prom to allow Buffy and Angel to dance, with a very fatherly expression of love on his face.
Giles takes a father role in Band Candy ("I know I'm not your parent but I am responsible for you.")
In Band Candy, when Giles loses his inhibitions, it's Joyce, not Buffy, that Giles pairs up with.
In Goodbye Iowa, Buffy compares the quarreling Giles and Anya to her parents.

All her references to his age (The Freshman, "boring old and British" in season 7).
Their banter is very father-daughter like, such as when he accuses her of not listening to him when they're discussing Dawn in season 5, and in The Dark Age when he is criticizing her music.
