You know guys, we can state our opinions on this to the death in this thread, but if we try and dictate someone's opinion, or tell them that it's wrong then this'll only end in caps lock and the thread being closed.
The rights of a human being are not simple. We may an official document on them, but that won't change the complete and utter complexness of the value of a human's rights, and more importantly, their life. We won't be able to wrap this up in a simple, neat way, which is why I think we really should avoid debate.
First off, I am against the death penalty. I do not belive in capital punishment, I never have and I don't think I ever will. But I think that this situation is the great big glaring exception. Because what else could have been done? What prison could have held him? If there had been any other option, any at all, then I would have opted for it, and prayed they decided to do it instead. But, there simply wasn't.
We are just human beings. Government officials, and the President are human beings too. And while they're put in charge, and are the people who have the responsibility of running the country, this does not make them any higher than human. They have no God given right to decide whether one deserves to die.
With no other options, I belive that killing Bin Laden needed to be done. But that doesn't make it right
.And as for people running around and celebrating Bin Laden's death, I think the quote "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do" fits in for this situation. As horrible as celebrating the death of a human is, a huge threat to national security is gone. Of course they're happy, and deserve that happiness, after living in fear for so long. I've no doubt that many who celebrate his death now will feel ashamed later.
I hope I got my point across OK. My thoughts are all jumbled right now.
