bloody actors.

Off course cast get the credits. It's the way the system works, the pretty people are always the popular ones in high school aswell. And the dumb mass, will only care for them. But hell, who cares, dumb mass will always be the dumb mass. And if you don't care for them, but look at the writers, producers and directors, consider yourself one of the lucky elite of this world 😀

Off course, this doesn't mean, the jobs of the cast should be underestimated, but for once it'd be better to judge them on skills rather then looks.
 
Right, Allycat, but it's not just because they're pretty. It's because they're ON CAMERA! People have seen what they look like!

I think Neil Stephenson is the most amazingly gifted writer in the universe and I worship the ground he walks on. But if I was channel surfing and I stumbled upon him chatting with a talk show host, I'd go right on channel surfing past him because I have no friggin idea what he looks like and I wouldn't realize it was him. Ditto for almost all the directors/writers/cinematographers and other assorted creative types who I wouldn't know from Adam. They've got no brand recognition. 🙂
 
It all comes down to this....many people find it to be an absolute impossibility to believe in something they don't see. Actors are tangible-their talent can be seen. It is being acted out right in front of the person who is there to appreciate it. Writing and directing are more intangible and thus ignored because what the person is SEEING is the talent of the actors. Did that make any sense? People as a rule (at least in my experience) don't like to think about some things too hard. And when they start thinking about how many different talents go into the performance in front of them, it gets complicated---that sounds like a horrible thing to say, but I've seen countless evidence of it-although the precious few who aren't like that are very much appreciated 🙂

In reality (and I say this as a former actor, as someone who has worked on a movie set closely with a director, and as a writer myself) neither of these jobs are any easier than the others. Each field takes hard work and an EXTREME amount of talentto survive in. I agree that all the talents that go into a great film should be rewarded.

I agree that those in the limelight are the actors, but I don't think the directors or writers etc want to be in the limelight. Otherwise they would take their money and invest in acting lessons then be in the camera.

I'm a writer and indie director (none officially released movies though but nevermind that, its not the point) and I once dreamed of being an actor and shrids but then reality struck me and what I love to do is create things, not obey what others have created. I don't care for fame, I just want people to like what I have created.

When I look for a movie I want a good plot, a good writer, a good director and good actors and actresses. I have to admit though I would rather see a movie with Johnny Depp and Nicole Kidman than a movie with random_b_star_101 and random_b_starlet_101.
 
Writers never get the credit they deserve. The only exception is Buffy and Angel. We all know who the writers are. They go to conventions, they're interviewed for magazines, and when we see their name on a episode, we know it's a good one.
