Buffy and Angel Book Thread Part 2

Was pleasantly surprised at What Would Buffy Do? Now, it's probably the only BTVS related book I'd actively avoided. The main reason being that religious interpretations of media tend to be written by religious people. In my experience, commentators who approach the show intent on extracting religious meaning tend to come back with whatever they wanted to find, rather than what's actually there, and it's infuriating.

To my surprise, it's a terrific book. The author knows the show, and knows her stuff. The spiritual themes are explored intelligently and logically, without drifting off into the horrible unreadability that plagued "Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Philosophy". (sample quote: "Faith's unambigous"¦ pursuit of pleasure above all other things makes her the perfect example of eudaimonist ethics") It's written in a jovially informal way, but sprinkled with appropriate parallel quotes from religious texts and philosophers. The book is formatted sort of like a Hare Krishna pamphlet, but with far more sense. Each themed chapter builds on the theme of the last, but the structure doesn't really emerge until the end. It's by far the best exploration of the shows internal theology that I've read yet. Highly, highly recommended. Even if you
aren't interested in theology at all, it's so well written it's entertaining anyway.

That Lilah thing in the Angel Casefiles... I think I read the same review, and it declines to spoil the kids "tragic" fate. Spoil me somebody?

Queen of the slayers?

Has anyone else read this book, when i first started reading it i thought it was really good but then when i got to the end i was terribly disappointed and thought OMG what a pile of crap!!! What did you think?

I heard it was stupid... although I half wanted it for the stupid ending haha but then i was like "I don't even read fan fic and that sounds about as bad as that"

i realy can't make up my mind about the book. at first i thought it was kinda...i don't know, clunky? or something, like there were too many things going on at once. the opening few chapters i thought were pretty pointless and had nothing to do with the rest of the story.
i expected better from a writer such as nancy holder.

I just got it. It wasn't that bad although there was to many pointless chapters. I liked the references to Angel. You would expect more from Nancy Holder although it isn't that terrible.

Oh come on the end didnt even make sense, well it did but it didn't how much good was lost and
then the B was made from four people without you know what and it was already like 4 years old and then it just disappeared...
i admit nancy holder is normally a good writer but i seriously just thought this book was awful, although i liked the quotes at the strat of every chaper and a few from the book itself hence my sig

i have to agree xin rong, i really liked the quotes. but the book could have been a lot better. hopefully the next buffy book will be!!

There's going to be a next one, is chris golden going to write a post series 7 buffy book, because i like his books to

I actually thought the book was pretty good. As compared to other storylines from the other novels, this was was great. It's practically season eight of Buffy. There is so much information about what happened after the end of season seven at the Hellmouth, and even ties in great things that happened in Angel during season five.

I thought it was a great connection between the series, and a nice way to end the shows as we know it. As far as we know, there are not going to be any follup-ups (movie wise), so I thought that this did a nice job.

And, it's a Buffy the Vampire Slayer novel, guys. Not a story worthy of the Pulitzer.

(and I may be biased in the fact that is does heavily lean towards a certain relationship that some of us all know and love!)

Sorry what relationship, I'm a bit numb, still if you liked the book, you cant have liked the ending it was terrible
where did the stupid B come from and where did it go and why was it older than a day, and how can one thing change the balance between good and evil that much just by existing!!!

Nancy Holder has a tendency to go B/A alot, especially in Heat, nut I thought Queen of the Slayers was Spuffy in the begining. I actually liked the book. I think it would have been better with a different ending. Nancy did a good job of relating things that happened in Angel. For example the part where Buffy goes dancing with The Immortal in TGIQ.

Queen of the slayers

I am reading it at the moment. So far, it seems OK. It is only that it seems to be centered on Faith, Kennedy, Buffy and Andrew. Xander even didn't make a cameo and that goes for Willow too. Faith is written so unlike Faith, that goes for Kennedy too. As for BANGEL, there is none. And it is very unlike Nancy Holder.

Xander gets a bit more scenes later, but still doesn't seem all core scooby. I think it would have been more interesting if they could've worked the story without the Gods...their whole backstory was really boring.

Queen of the Slayers (No Spoilers)

Has anybody read this book? I cant find it any of the book shops in Ireland, But I wanted to know if it is any good, cuz I have read allot of Buffy books that are just crap, where they just reuse dialog from the show or seriously fail to use the "Buffy Language" correctly!

Does anyone know if a follow-up is planned and/or the details on any other post-finale books planned?

I can't get enough!

For the longest time I was really into Buffy and Angel books. My favorite Buffy books are The Lost Slayer, Tempted Champion, and Spike and Dru: Pretty Slayers All In A Row. The best Angel books are The Longest Night vol. 1 and haunted.

Mucho points for this selection.,....
The Lost Slayer is one of my Favourite Books period..
I love the whole idea of the Slayer lost in time, the issue of the Bad guy and then THE bad guy, the use of the characters, the desperate progession of some, the almost powerful of others......its an awesome book.....
I also love Monster Island. The idea of the cross over plus the back story that we know, the completion of a certain character(i dont wanna give spoilers!) the interaction between Spike and Angel.....its got it all....
