Buffy Animated Series...uh, OMFG!

This will take me forever to load (stupid dial up), but I can hardly wait to see it. 🙂

wow. i found this yesterday on youtube while looking at dailies and thought it was old news, simply something id never found before. im just now being clued in to the fact that its shiny and new for the youtube audiences 😛.

i did like it though. some of those funny lines made me grin a grin that stretched up to my eyeballs. i mean, id prefer the live series any day, but i would definitely watch it if it aired anywhere, tv or internet! 😀

Wow. That was . . . well, the word "retarded" springs to mind. "There are things in the dark. Dark things." Oh, come on! And Giles' thing about Willow and Cordy wearing the same skirt? That's incredibly out of character. It's like they went, "Hey, we're making a cartoon! It has to be childish and silly!" and ran with it.

Thank GOD this never aired.

this is brilliant, I loved it, wish they could of made it.

Maybe this is a sign ! Maybe it is a leak to see reactions and maybe they will make it - well one can hope!!!!!

You think? I thought that was all a part of the pitchiness of it all. Playing to what the networks want to see a little to get it picked up. I'm sure if it had been made, Joss would have kept it very Buffy, and the voice acting would have settled down a bit.

I didn't have a problem with the voice acting. Considering they got the actors (except SMG) back. I had a problem with the writing. It was insipid.

But that's (sadly) usually what networks want in a pitch. It's animated, therefor they want a cartoon. Again, I'm sure if Joss had got it picked up he would have been in a position to make changes and challenge the network's preconceptions.

I didn't think it was all that bad though. Bits here and there, yes, but the Giles line I felt was more flawed in the execution rather than the writing. It wasn't up to the usual standard, but it definately showed promise.

If it did (or does) go to TV, I might give it a shot, but just based on that little sample, I don't think I'd like it. It feels very dumbed-down--again, because it's a cartoon. They're missing the fact that the major audience for Buffy is late-teens, early-twenties. Maybe they're trying to grab the kids, but I don't think kids are as dumb as these writers are trying to pretend they are.

That, and I think it would ruin the spirit of Buffy to have lunchboxes and backpacks and all that crap that usually goes with cartoons. I kind of like it being an almost-underground, widely-misunderstood show.

The dreaded phrase pops up yet again!
And ummm hello? It is a cartoon meant for kids.
The pitch promo here illustrates that with perfect clarity.

The pitch promo does what it needs to for establishing tone of the show to prospective clients.
It re-establishes the original premise of damsel-in-distress turned on its ear, with wise-cracks.
It establishes the dusting of a vamp to illustrate for prospects an acceptable level of "regular gore" (vampire slayer; kinda in the title) for the kids.
It establishes the main secondary characters along with examples of typical characterization snippet dialog for each.
It establishes a fantastical battle that could not be done live action on a TV budget to illustrate the show would not be just vamp dusting but contain things far more exciting to take advantage of the animation medium.

What were you expecting? A continuation of the live action to animation? This would have been a reboot of the Buffy franchise, not a Season 8 or retelling of previous seasons in animation form.

Expecting otherwise is well... you used a word earlier.

I don't think it's too much to expect it to keep a similar tone and writing style.

When the show's nickname is "Buffy: The Vampire Layer" I think it IS too much to expect.
I think it's too hard to tell from the clip how bad it would be. I think seeing it on a cartoon kind of makes it all seem a bit "sillier" than the show was.
However, the kids LOVED it. It would've been nice if we had more that they could watch.

YOU WILL NOT HAVE THE DANCING BANANA MAN IN YOUR SIG! LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow just noticed this on *********.. which I clicked on by accident 😛 But good accident, cause this clip was awesome! How long has the petition been up? Be sweet if this got produced.

If they ever did make this right after S7 do anyone think it would be a S8 cartoon?
I'd watch but only if it was written like a show and not a anime but idk.

You mean the same exact link that started this very thread and title 4 pages ago?

Nah. Ain't been posted yet.
Thanks!

Saw the link over at another board and was able to nab it before it was taken down.

I like it, I mean yes it is dumbed down a little and the voice acting isn't going to win them any awards, but it was fun.

Plus look at the Buffy pilot and the finished one, what the series became when fully produced, this is just a short promo to show the exec's, the finished cartoon would have better.

At one of the conventions recently, Nick said they were hoping the animated series would be given a second chance with all this renewed interest in Buffy.
