Had some time to kill, and this sounded fun! lol

I am so friggin excited for this comic, the idea of Buffy being back with new storylines, new characters and new discussions is just awesome, I actually don't think it's sunk in that it will be back!

awesome....
This is all kinds of good news, didn't know where to post it, but...

LOST: Putting the "TV" back in bkv.tv

...yes, inexplicably, I've been hired as an Executive Story Editor by the fantastic television show LOST. As I'm neither an executive nor an editor, this is really just a fancy Hollywood way of saying that I've joined the writing staff.

I can't talk about much more than that, so I implore you to please stop asking me what the island is, who the Others are, how Matthew Fox smells, etc. Still, I will say that I'm insanely honored to join such an amazing group of writers (some of their new scripts I've been lucky enough to read are destined to become the best episodes of the series), and I'm very grateful to Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse for having so much faith in me.

And no, I'm absolutely not leaving comics. There are a lot of Y: The Last Man and Ex Machina fans at the show, so everyone has been great about leaving me just enough time to work on those books, and even some new ones, including an upcoming four-issue stint on that Runaways guy Joss Whedon's "eighth season" of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER over at Dark Horse. ...

Edit:

Whedon says he’ll write several of the book’s arcs, including the first, “The Long Way Home” with art by Georges Jeanty. For the rest, Whedon has assembled a veritable who’s who of comic book writing talent that includes Brian K. Vaughan (Ex Machina), Brad Meltzer (Justice League of America) and Jeph Loeb (Onslaught Reborn), along with former “Buffy” TV writers Jane Espenson, Drew Goddard, Drew Greenberg and Steven DeKnight.

“I have some extremely powerhouse comic book people who surprisingly threw their hats in, and then some of my best show writers,” says Whedon. “I approached the guys I did because I knew they could bring something—not just get it done, but really bring something to the party.”

This is the first time I've heard Brian K Vaughan will be writing for Buffy Season 8, but after hearing the mutual admiration stuff pass between Whedon and Vaughan it doesn't surprise me. Sounds like a natural choice. I don't know comic writers as good as some of you do, but I'm aware of the reps of the other two (Meltzer, Loeb), and Joss has proven his eye for writing talent, so those are most likely great choices too.

On the mutant enemy writers I used to have a problem with Drew Z Greenberg, but that was before Dexter, and even then my critique was his stuff could get too comic bookish in that the progression of reason could make too sudden a leap without showing you how A + B could lead to C. Even if that complaint still applied I'm not sure it matters in a comic, and after that Greenberg produces some pretty wild images and ideas. He should be pretty good for this.

Goddard was my favourite Mutant Enemy guy with the possible exception of Fury. I wasn't crazy about his collaborations with DeKnight though,(Why We Fight, Girl in Question) so I hope they stay away from that.

And of course Jane Espenson, she can do anything.

All in all, these announcements just keep making me want March to hurry up and get here.

Mm, this is good news, I want March to come now! And according to Joss himself over at whedonesque, Petrie (Doug Petri I guess?) is now also in:
Nice article. It was written before I had a chance to talk to Petrie. He's in.

There's other peeps I'd love to have, but a lot of them are busy and I've got to make sure I've got the peeps already named orgabanized. It's very confusing, running a show entirely from one's computer.

More revelations to come...

Cool.

There's some other stuff in the Wizard article that's worth quoting as well.

The party, according to Whedon, revolves around what's been going on with the core cast after the destruction of their hometown of Sunnydale. While the events of the comic don't take place immediately after the end credits of the final episode, the writer says things do pick up with relative ease.

"One of my mandates is always that the characters should be, on some level, going through exactly what the audience is going through," reveals Whedon. "You don't want to just say it's the next day, because it's not for so many of us. But you do want a little bit of catch-up."

Similar to the TV show, the new comic series features an overarching story involving the entire cast with smaller, more focused episodic arcs within. The first focuses on Buffy Summers and her role in the world after dozens of slayers were "activated" in the seventh season. Also on tap are ensemble tales involving Buffy's brigade of helpers, aka the Scoobies, including favorites Willow and Xander and Buffy's sister, Dawn.

Although vampiric Buffy love interests Spike and Angel are currently featured in comics at publisher IDW, Whedon let slip that they could still make their way into a Season Eight comic.

"IDW got the Angel franchise license, and they've been working really hard on it and doing some good stuff with it, so it is not my intention to completely bone them," he jokes. "But Spike and Angel are also people who should be used kind of sparingly, because they're the big guns. "¦The opportunity is there, and if the story dictates it, well, the story is king."

And if you've never seen an episode of the TV series, no need to stake yourself in the heart"”Whedon's got you covered.

"Obviously I'm going to have callbacks and characters from the show," he says. "But at the same time, it's always the mandate that somebody jumping in can go, "˜Okay, slayers are strong, vampires and demons are not so good and Willow's ht."

The banner's a creation of Goldenboy's. I like it too.
Brian K Vaughan will write a Faith arc.

Buffy: ?Of course, one of our biggest events of the year is the new launch of Buffy in March, overseen by Joss Whedon, who's writing the first, middle, and last arc. The second series, after Joss's initial four, is going to feature Faith, and it'll be written by Brian K. Vaughan. We're real jazzed about that. Brian's the most exciting your writer on the scene for me-Ex Machina's my favorite book right now, which led us to using Tony [Harris] on covers for Conan for a while. So having Brian follow Joss really cuts the pain of not having Joss write the whole thing himself. After that, Jeph Loeb will be on the book, and some writers from the show-so we're getting the best possible people to run this series. Working with Joss opens doors.?

That banner looks suspiciously like my favorite Number 8, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. It's great!
There's a Buffy zone?! Cool! I had no idea...can't wait for the comic.

And we have information on issue two available at last, as well as a look at the very cool cover.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #2

Written by Joss Whedon, penciled by Georges Jeanty, inked by Andy Owens, colored by Dave Stewart, cover by Jo Chen.

The destruction of Buffy's hometown, plus covert and powerful slayer "cells" around the world, add up to a new label for the Scoobies: Terrorist threat. Speaking of Sunnydale, the crater formerly known as, has opened to reveal the witch Amy, and boy is she pissed. Now: Giles, smoochies, a knife to the heart, and a big sleep. Season Eight continues.

32 pages, $2.99, in stores on April 4.

For a look at the cover, go here. It's well worth a look.

the cover looks really good, but, uh, if that's Xander, isn't his eyepatch on the wrong eye?

Nope, that's the right eye, Lyri.

Well, actually it's the left eye... which is right... y'know what I mean! 😉

lol, don't know what the hell i was thinking! for some reason, for a second i could have sworn it was his right eye he lost! but i admit, i was wrong!
seriously can't wait for this now!
