Wootaru!
I just found this info.

********* - A Buffy Forum - #16-20

Issue 16: July trumpets the return of Jo Chen, but also heralds the return of both Karl Moline and Fray to the Buffyverse! The Buffster squares off against her futuristic descendant in this four-part arc by Joss Whedon and Karl Moline, who fist collaborated in 2003's Fray mini-series

Linking the image from ********* atm, not sure how long it will remain up there.

Apparently the next arc after Wolves at the Gate will be written by Joss and it concerns a Buffy/Fray crossover. I guess Buffy somehow makes it to the future, this should be so awesome I'm really excited.

Know I could post this in the spoiler thread, but wanted to get peeps attention. Can merge me if you like 🙂

Woah! This is awesome! I know I shouldn't have looked at the cover so as not to be spoiled, but I just couldn't stop myself. But now I am left with a great anticipation for this issue 🙁

This arc is gonna be amazing, I love Fray...

Heh yeah I don't even bother saving myself from spoilers anymore .. I must be corrupted. 😉
I read Fray when I found out season 8 would be in comic book form. Those of you who haven't read Fray you should, it's a really great read. Classic Joss story. Also good news that Joss is doing the whole next arc.. and a the pencils done by the guy who did Fray.. I love the art in that book.

Ooh crossovery goodness. This arc looks really good- the mere idea I mean. The cover though is making me wicked curious. Two scythes, two Slayers and them fighting as they seem to be falling off a building. Can't Buffy ever meet another Slayer without getting into a fight with her? Yeesh. Haha.
Really looking forward to this arc though. I know the concept of the Fray comics and I've read re-caps and summaries but I've never actually read the comics....I'm beginning to think this might be a reason to do so now....

This is too awesome! Fray, Karl... I can't believe my ears! I'm not too keen on timetraveling though. It always mucks up the storyline. I wonder if somehow future-Angel and future-Spike are going to turn up?!? We saw them in After the Fall recently. With Spike holding the (or a) Scythe.

PS: Am I the only person who hates ********* btw? This new forum pops up out of nowhere last year I think and all of a sudden it becomes to no. 1 official channel through which the companies communicate with the fans... what's up with that?

Here's a better, cleaner version of the picture, from Jo Chen's myspace.

I wonder if Karl or Georges will be responsible for the Variants.

yeah not as good as BB!
Even if Buffy can be bought forward in time, how can the Scythe exist at two points in its own timeline, when Buffy was brought forward, the Scythe was now no longer 'there' and ceases to be part of the original timeline, either staying with Buffy anew or taking it from Fray since it was no longer in the past, altering the timeline even more.

Having both already gives away the outcome as in order for it to be with Fray as well Buffy must return to her own time and live out the events of history as already told so that the Scythe lies in the chamber in New York for Fray to find it in the future.

I hate time travel, its always convoluted. I know he needed to deal with the Fray thing as reading it gives away how Buffy ends and this is Joss' way of undoing that, but seriously now...

time-travel sucks... it ALWAYS mucks up the timeline.
This is gonna be immense, maybe twilight has something to do with Fray? Can't wait to find out what Buffy thinks of no more magic, no more council and flying cars!

No one knows anything about time travel enough to say that, because it's not real basically it allows the person telling the story to make it up. But if the scythe couldn't exist then neither could Buffy or her cloths, but it would seem that moving it's just moving Buffy and the scythe to a different point in time, so they can exist, then returning them to the point in time again, if it was Frays destiny to find the scythe then she would.

I never read Fray but this sounds really interesting. I hope they don't do it in a way where you have to read Fray to understand what's going on.

You should consider giving Fray a shot VG. You could check it out from the library or something. It's a really good read.

I know there are Buffy fans who hate comics and aren't reading Buffy 8. I personally cannot fathom how you could resist now. Karl Moline, very cool. He's probably gotten even better since Fray.

Edit:

Huh. Buffy's holding a scythe that looks like Fray's version -- the blade is completely red. The other one looks like the scythe from Buffy Season 7.

Maybe the two Slayers have gotten confused. "Wait a minute this isn't *my* scythe...."

Fray rocks
Wow! I'll see your OMG, and raise you a WTF. That dropped my jaw man. Those two together! I almost feel sorry for Twilight. The return of Jo Chen and Karl Moline. This one's a collector.

Here's a link to some info on Fray and her significance to the Buffyverse...

Fray in the Buffyverse

i just say a link to this fom MySpace, so i clicked, being excited that Jo was back. i actually yelled 'FRAY?!' when i saw the picture...got some strange looks from my sister! lol

the cover looks AWESOME! i always print out my fave covers...this one if now getting added to my collection, lol.

i cannot wait for this arc. i can't wait to see what gets explained. Joss said he was going to return to the Fray-verse...i just didn't think he meant during S8! lol

Just noticed something else on the cover; Fray's pretty much in Slay-heavy gear which is expected but check out Buffy's outfit. A chiffon dress AND high heels?? This strikes me as slightly odd....

My jaw dropped.

I drooled.

I freaked out...

I fit a Pringle in there somewhere but I can't remember where.

HOLY CRAP. THIS IS AMAZING...just...YES! HALLELUJAH! Mel AND Buffy?! THIS IS GOING. TO. BE. THE. BEST. ARC. EVER...

😀

Fray looks to be in her usual outfit. Still thinking about getting her tattoo.. I know I'm so geeky.
I don't get the confusion about the scythes.. one is from the past, one is from the future.. pretty much the same if Spike is still alive in the time of Fray and his present self met his future self.

I'm really impatient for this arc now.. was this the big news I wonder.. or is there more.

The confusion about the scythes (for me) has to do with their appearance. Clem Rocks convinced me that both scythes in Jo's cover are "Fray scythes", completely red blades:

Buffy's scythe always has the plain metallic blade section:

I think this is the one Spike was holding -- Buffy's. That's what I'm wondering about...were there multiple scythes in existence, even without all the time travel stuff? Or is it just artistic license, or a slip up.

Far-fetched idea here, but maybe there's four scythes, two red and silver ones now, and two red ones in the future. Red and Silver: One for Buffy and one for Faith. Red: One for Fray and one for....Fray's brother? I dunno, i haven't read Fray. I have read that Fray is given her's from a demon, maybe the red ones are demonic and the red and silver ones are the true Slayer ones...

Um guys I just think it's because they have been drawn by different artists. Fray was shown with the scythe before Buffy, so it seems natural that it might look a little different to the eventual one that was on tv.. then back in season 8 comics.

Yeah, but we're all nerdy obsessive types around here Alexa. 🙂

Jo has depicted the scythe in both ways with her covers. It looks like Buffy Season 7 style on the first TPB cover. But yeah, this latest cover may just be an homage to Fray. OK. I'll stop wasting keystrokes now...
