IMO, possibly the worst thing about Willow's section is that they couldn't come up with any in-story reason why Cassie was there and not Tara. It just further added to the incomprehensible nonsense that was the First's plan.
 
Amazing episode!!!
Especially love the Willow/Cassie scenes, she is a great actress. The one thing that I would of liked from this episode would of defiantly of been Xander/Jesse. After all that time, it would of been excellent seeing him, he made of looked a little older than he did though.
 
Did they ever really mention Jesse again after he died? I think they completely forgot about him .... there would have been no emotional resonance to seeing someone we haven;t seen since the first 2 eps, and whom the other characters never really seemed to miss in the first place.

How Much Did Jesse's Death Affect Xander?

Jesse should have been mentioned ALL The TIME in S1. He appeared like Xander's best friend in the first two episodes. Bad writing.

A very serious and great episode, the Dawn part with the "Are you alone? BAM... BAM" was very creepy although you have to wonder wtf the first is up to.

The Buffy/Holden dialogues are good, but it's sad to see that Buffy is still all messed up psychically.

It's totally heart-wrenching to watch Willow when she thinks she can talk to Tara . This scene would be so incredibly mighty if it were Amber Benson and I'm kind of interested to watch her act evil but I can really understand that she refused to do it.
First she got killed off only to trigger Dark Willow and then shall drop a bomb on the whole relationship?
No way, Joss "Soulmate-Killer" Whedon!
(guess I'm a die-hard Tillow shipper after all..😀)
The only reason that this scene works is the outstanding acting of Cassie, they should have replaced it with some Xander action, though. Willow got enough character development, Xander hasn't.

Weird personal rating scale says 5 out of 7.

Don't worry, plenty of Tara's kittens still about😀 But yes, we should have had Xander/Jesse
 
I love this episode mainly because I have always been interested in finding out what is really going on in Buffy's head and we get that with Holden. Suppose I can't really blame her for having abit of a superiority complex over her friends, after all she is the Slayer, but I really find it very interesting to find out what Buffy is thinking and feeling at times. Also think that had Amber Benson been in this episode and been the one to break Willow's heart and tell her to kill herself then it probably would have been one of the saddest but also greatest bits of television in BtVS history and maybe even make it the best ever. Still, a fantastic episode though.

Hmm, I've never really thought about this until now, but there actually IS a really good reason why Tara "couldn't" be there. Tara's presence would have, in all likelihood, brought Willow comfort, closure, relief, joy. She would have been delighted. And yes, when The First started being all scary and mind-trippy, it would have been terrible...but I think it's actually more effective to appear as someone Willow never met, to tell her, "You've done things so horrible, Tara can't even look at you. And by the way, you're going to do it again, so cut it out." It weakens her, straight away, rather than giving her any sort of solace from being able to see Tara face-to-face.

As much as I dislike most of the First's "plans," this one definitely wasn't the worst.

That sort of makes sense... but the First wanted Willow to kill herself, and surely Willow would be more easily pursuaded by Tara than some chick she hardly knows?
It always bugged me they didn't have a good reason in the plot why Tara couldn't be there. But this is a FANTASTIC episode. LOVE the Buffy/Holden part.

Well, there's also the fact that if Tara were to say, "Kill yourself," I don't think there was a chance in hell Willow would have believed it was her. (God, can you even imagine Tara saying something like that?) Perhaps the First thought if a stranger said it, even if it was "from Tara," Willow had a greater chance at buying it.
 
The First wanted to hurt and make Willow suffer so much so she would kill herself, and I think it's more painful if you send someone else to say that the person that wants to pass you the message, can't really be with you, but is crying, although you can't see it, you can't comfort them, can't touch them and wipe their tears.
 
Never lost my sympathy with Buffy, she kinda is better but doesn't want to be. Eventually she makes thousands of other Slayers so she isn't better than everyone else

Yeah i almost had teary eyes there although i never liked Jonathan that much..
He should be in the Place of Andrew, he would have deserved it a lot more. He was walking the path of Redemption more or less since that ep before Seeing Red!
 
Did anybody mention that Joss Whedon co-wrote Blue with Angie Hart? One of my favorite Buffy songs, and an awesome backdrop to this episode. This is one of my best of the season. Honestly, it doesn't bug me that Tara's not there, I think I agree with Amber Benson's reasoning, and Azura Skye did a great job. God, so sad when she said "She's crying" referring to Tara. Seriously, the First really knows how to get to people.

So, the First is Joyce, the force tearing apart the house, and the demony thing standing over Joyce's body?

I love the Star Wars quoting going on by Andrew, Jonathan and "Warren". 🙂 Love how Holden said "nemeses" and Buffy said "Is that how you say it?", referring to both her & Warren mispronouncing it in Gone. And I'm sorry, I laughed hysterically at Andrew: "It eats you, starting with your bottom."
 
One the best episodes of the 7th season for sure, I liked seeing Azura Skye again but Amber Benson would of been more interesting to watch.
I read the original script for the scene that I think it was Jane Espenson who wrote it, the scene had it been Tara/The First and Willow, it's pretty gutwrenching.

And Holden Webster, someone I can't stand btw, says that Scott Hope came out of the closet, did they say because the actor who played Scott was playing a gay character on Queer As Folk at that time 😉
 
I am not a huge fan of this episode, I thought Dawn and Willow were fab. I found Buffy tedious and annoying.

I always wondered why they picked such a weak song for the episode. I only recently found out it was written for it.

Although I think this ep & its song are fabulous, I do agree that Buffy's scenes get kind of long & drawn-out. Of course, I find Webster annoying LOL.
