I don't think that that is ever answered.

This is an excellent episode from start to finish. And I do mean finish...the ending where Riley & Buffy are sitting there silent, awkward, not knowing how to talk to each other. I'm a speech-language pathologist, so the whole theme of the importance of communication as it relates to our humanity is HUGE to me. I can't believe I'm actually agreeing with Maggie Walsh (hate that character!) LOL.

My fav part is Buffy agonizing over Giles' Buffy drawing's huge hips!:laugh:

Forrest is not a fav character of mine, but I love this quote: "We have a gig that would inevitably cause any girl living to think we are cool upon cool. Yet, we must Clark Kent our way through the dating scene never to use our unfair advantage... thank God we're pretty [yes, they are!]." And yay, Superman reference! 🙂

Hush is so epic. my boyfriend has yet to see it, we haven't got S4 on dvd yet and they don't play it on tv anymore! they always skip past it 🙁

How could they skip one of the best episodes?!?!?! Hush is a piece of genius, we love you for giving this to us Joss. Absolutely outstanding creepy television.

What's more important about it all was that as I was writing it I discovered, having outlined the entire thing and knowing exactly what was going to happen, I discovered what it was about. Which I had not figured out while I was figuring out the story, that came to me as I was writing it. I had a general notion that what it was about was the idea that when people stop talking they start communicating. That language can interfere with communication, because language limits. As soon as you say something you've eliminated ever other possibility of what you might be talking about. And we also use language to separate ourselves from other people. We also use language as white noise. There's many ways... we also misuse it horribly. All of those things appear in the show, because once I realised that the episode was about communication, I then found that absolutely everything I wrote was completely on-theme. That is to say, every line of dialogue embodies the theme of the show.

I watched this episode for the first time yesterday. The Gentlemen were SO creepy, but I loved it! I didn't realize Andy Hallet was in it. Now I have to go watch it again to spot him. 😀
 
Dude I love the Gentlemen... and my status on facebook yesterday was "Can't even shout, can't cry... the Gentlemen are coming by. Looking in windows, knocking on doors... they need to take seven and they might take yours. Can't call to mom, can't say a word... you're going to die screaming and you won't be heard." Epic.
 
I still think the idea of not being able to shout while you die is super creepy

For real. The last line of the little song "you're going to die screaming but you won't be heard" still freaks me out.

Haha nice one great status😀 My favourite episode of Season 4, the Gentlemen were the coolest villains ever on BtVS!
 
OMG, I'm sooo scared of the gentlemen! It is the only ep in Btvs history that I actually covered my eyes so I wouldn't be scarred for life 😀

I love that lol, it reminds me of the old Freddy Kruger song from the original A Nightmare On Elm Street movies. Same sort of creepiness factor. :cool2:

I did the same thing when I found out that he was in it. I won't tell you where though, it'll take the fun out of trying to spot him!
 
Definately an epic episode. Not many other shows/actors could pull of almost an entire episode with no speaking. The message: When you quit talking, important things get said. (The kiss, Buffy and Riley figuring out their extra-curriculars, the group working together swiftly, etc.)

This was the episode that made me go from thinking Buffy was good to being genius, I saw it first during the day on tv and then they showed the uncensored version later at night so saw it again.. The Gentlemen are amazing, I love the whole scene where Giles is showing them slides on the overhead about them, Anya is eating popcorn, and Giles goes all out with the music and everything 😀 and hey, Tara 🙂.
 
This is one of the best episodes in this show.
Oh yeah, the Gentlemen are so scary and I were a little afraid of them, really. They're always smiling... ALWAYS!
But although this is one of the scariest Buffy episodes, it is also one of the funniest because of the fact that everyone is voiceless.
Nobody is able to speak = very funny moments. 😀
 
Hush is one of my favourite episodes. The Gentlemen creeped me out so much when I was a kid, I even had a nightmare about them strolling around the city, it was so creepy. I also love the scene when Giles is doing the over-head of his theory about the whole thing. A lot of funny moments. 😛

I usually rate that scene as the funniest in the entire series.
Find it to be absolutely hilarious. 😀
