If you look at Buffy in Prophecy Girl when she goes down to fight the Master, she puts up no fight.

If she was ready to possibly give up her life, then wouldn't she battle? Look at Buffy in other instances, her emotions fueled her power, Of course she would be extremely scared since the prophecy said that she would die, but she would do something. She even tells Jenny that she might just take the Master with her.

Maybe Buffy's first death made her alot braver and a risk-taker. But it just seems that she would have kicked his butt in the first place just because she was so pissed, and you know how Buffy is when shes pissed.

I think The Master stopped Buffy from attacking him, like with Draculla I think there was some sort of thrawl thing. Like when the Master gestures for Buffy to come to him she does and the same sort of thing happens with Draculla.

Yes exactly, we've seen both Drucilla and Dracula display the powers of mind control, just as that master was controlling Buffy's mind.

Buffy didnt put up a fight because the Master put some of his power on her to kind of paralyze her, we see when she confronts him at the end of the episode, he tries to do it agian but it doesnt work and then she whoops some vampric ass.

Maybe the thrall thing works on people who are scared.

Also I think that this new attitude of bravery etc came after she died and came back to life. Gave her power and more confidence.

I agree that Master was able to somehow control her mind far better then Drusilla,so if Kendra was not able to not fall for it and she was a 'properly trained(by the book) Slayer' Buffy had no chances to fight with The Master's power over her

Well, maybe she wanted to die, what if she dreamt of all that, but in her dream Angel did the CPR thing?😛lol :lol2:

Ok,I agree with all of you of course😀. I wonder why TM didn't control B's mind in The Wish...hmmm...weird

Xander bought Buffy back to life not Angel as he "has no breath"

Maybe The Master didn't control Buffy's mind in The Wish because he was stronger and didn't need to use it. Or he was cocky (As most Vamps are) 🙂

Possibly...he was probably stronger in the Wish than Prophecy Girl, especially considering he was trapped underground for so long.

Lol,I know,I understand myself,I'm weird😛. I meant she dreamt of that and that's why she wanted to die,so she could ...mmm,Angel's lips are sooo sexy....oh,well,never mind😛

Well... it's possible the mind control thing demands a certain degree of concentration and effort. WishMaster (Hey! heh) doesn't need to use it, so he doesn't...

Yes both at the end of both fights, Buffy easily overcomes their thrall (sp?)!

True, but I don't think I'd but Drucilla in the same category as the Master (power wise). He's such an old vampire.

buffy was under the master's thrall, that's a fact. the question that's debatable is how she snapped out of it later on. i believe the death experience had something to do with that. he had killed her, how much more power could he have over her? also, who knows what happened to her physically and emotionally while she was dead? we only know that when she came back, she was stronger, more determined somehow. sure, i know - girl died, that'd change you. but she was the slayer and she died. it's possible there was something more to it. she was different. it's one of the unanswered questions.

There is no doubt that initially Buffy went into that fight with a certain amount of doubt that she was even able to win. It was prophecised that she would die, given the fact that she was relatively new to the prophecy game you have to assume that this would effect her ability to function. If you believe you are absolutely going to lose then subconsciously you will let it happen. That is a fact.

There is also the fact the Master obviously had some control over her, that was very clear in the way she reacted. However a lot of that control came from her being willing to believe he was going to win. Once she had died and come back again this meant that any subconscious fear of losing Buffy had before went away, she had a whole new state of mind to work with giveing her the confidence to beat him the second time.

Then, as Maria said before me, there was the additional bonus of whatever increase in power she received upon being brought back again. It's clear to anyone who watches the way she fights in season one then how she becomes more disciplined and skillful in season two onwards that her death totally changed her both physically and mentally. This accounts for why she was never quite so ready to accept prophecies as being written in stone from then on. She knew that she could beat them.

There is a theory that once the single slayer rule was broken in Prophecy Girl and Kendra was activated that the source of slayer power where all the girls draw their ability from was forever altered. With two girls now drawing strength from that source the balance was lost and that is the reason why Buffy felt stronger upon being brought back to life. Because she really was.

Wow, 2004? This is an ancient thread but it still being on the first (and only) page of this section it's not like I'm digging it out of the graveyard, lol!

I too noticed that The Master, Drusilla and Dracula had the power of hypnotic persuasion over humans. In the fight between Buffy and The Master, she's easily beaten the first time. I thought that when they have their second encounter above the library, she had been "immunized" in a sense because he had bitten her. Indeed something happened between them, because when she's headed for the school with Angel and Xander she knows exactly where she's going, because she knows where he is.

I loved "Prophecy Girl" but in the end I thought Buffy did defeat The Master a little too easily. Their fight in S3 "The Wish" is much more dramatic, and The Master was scarier than he ever was in Season 1.

Well Buffy really couldn;t do anything because the Master is way stronger than her. I guess she tried to give a fight but like I said the Master is way stronger and faster (well I didn't say faster lol).

Wow, talk about reviving a dead thread.. Do we have a heartbeat?? Beep beep. IT IS ALIVE!

Anyway, I don't even know the point of this thread. I think it has something to do with the old adage "Full me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me"

I remember when Bush tried to use that in an interview and he ballsed it up.. so funny!

I said in another thread that The Master may have given her vampire strength when he bit her so that fueled her actions.
