Buffy in Prophecy Girl = Strange Buffy

dont know where else to put this, so i figured this thread would be the best spot. i was just watching prophecy girl and i cant believe how sad buffy's "i dont want to die" speech was. it was pretty intense, innocent, and somewhat beautiful. ok, that was a little lame, but i just thought it was awesome and really showed the depth of SMG's acting ability and reminded people that the character buffy really is just a 16 year old girl.

Maybe the thrall thing works on people who are scared.

Also I think that this new attitude of bravery etc came after she died and came back to life. Gave her power and more confidence.

ITA, I think when she first went down to face the master, she had a little bit of hesitance & fear, therefore making it easier for him to control her. Once she faced him the second time, I think she was ready to end it all & had no doubts whatsoever that she could do it.

I personally think that The Master was only able to control Buffy because she was already scared and doubting herself. And then after she was revived, she just said "Screw that" and went after his ancient ass. 🙂

well, the worst came to pass. she did die. she came back to life, and now what is there to fear when her greatest fear already happened? Nothing. time to kick butt.

The cast was impressive in this episode, particularly SMG, Allison Hannigan and Anthony Stewart Head. It was weird seeing Buffy doubt herself, but i'm glad Whedon wrote it that way.

Ummmmmmmmmm The Master became quite annoying, so glad Buffy came back to life. And whupped his pompous ass.

The 1st season ended as if it could've been the series finale.

guess Whedon did it that way in case the show wasn't renewed for a second one.

Favorite scene: the opening battle between Buffy and the vamp. Loved the look she gives him, after pulling out a stake.

"Come get some beeeeeeeeeeeyatch!!!"

Totally agree. 🙂 Very well said!

One of my favorite scenes is when Willow finds her friends dead, then talks to Buffy about it.

very sad...

The master used his mind mumbo jumbo on Buffy in the cave. That's why she didn't fight back. Then, after Xander revived her and she went back to fight the master once more, he tried the same trick again. But this time a part of him went into her. So it didn't work. Then she used her own trick. She said "You have fruit punch mouth" and He was like "what?" and then she pushed him into the window and he landed on the sharp wooden stake thingy.

I agree that Buffy was under the Masters thrall and thats why she didn't fight back and a good explanation for why that thrall didn't work a second time was because she had died and come back to life, but then wouldn't that mean that no other vampire should be able to work their thrall on her. I know Dru never tried with Buffy, but Dracula did and that worked. So it must mean that she was only granted ammunity from the Masters powers and no one elses. Sort of like, because that had caused her death, kind of, when she came back to life her body had a natural defence against that power.

That was also a very long time ago.
They couldn't get any of the effects that we have today.

Yeah it was foretold to happen. When it happened and she was revived she came back slightly diffrent.

Ok so Buffy did not put up a fight and probably because she was under the masters thrall, but after being killed by him and still being there to fight him, she would have had more confidence and a strength in knowing that she was gonna win.

The Master has the ability to make "stun" his victims. He's able to pull them in. This is why Buffy wasn't able to fight back the first time. When Xander brought her back however, Some of his power went into her, Therefore she became amuned to his power so she was able to fight back. Plus, The whole "You have fruit punch mouth" line was fabulous! =D

Never really thought of it that way, but it's very cool. 🙂 And I love the fruit punch line, too! 😀

How would you feel if you were 16 and told you're supposed to die...

When she hears Giles telling Angel that the Master was gonna kill her, she said she quit, that was her way to round it, then when Joyce talks to her Buffy wants to leave town, so in a few words she wants to run away and escape from her destiny, after all she's trying to get rid of the whole Slayer calling since the beginning. Then because of Willow's fear, after saying that the school wasn't their world anymore but it was theirs (vamps) was when the Slayer in Buffy came out and decided to face her destiny and do her duty, not because she wanted to but because she had to.

She goes down and faces the one who is going to kill her, a very old experienced vampire against a 16 year old Slayer... it's true, she didn't totally fight him, but he was "hiding" and at the first chance she got she shoot him with the crossbow, that's fighting isn't it? if it hadn't been for his reflexes she would had won, and after he stopped hiding he surprised her from behind and used that "hypnosis crap" as Buffy called it. So really not much time to fight don't you think?

I don't really think that there was any sort of thrall involved here. I think that, basically, Buffy realized for the first time that, no matter how powerful she might be, and you must admit that for a 15 year old girl to suddenly wake up and find that she's stronger than her school's entire defensive line would be pretty heady, there were things out there far stronger than she was, and that she very well might die fighting them. We're talking about a young girl who didn't even have her driver's lisence, and suddenly she hears from her mentor and father substitute that she HAS to fight the Master, and that he WILL kill her. She was scared to death, quite literally. She was like the deer, frozen in terror, when the lion attacks. The fact that she managed to discharge one single crossbow bolt before letting that fear completely immobilize her is a miracle in itself. Combine that with the fact that, for some unexplained reason, the Master neither drained nor turned her, AND that her friends arrived before she drowned takes it into the realm of the phenomenal.

We're not talking about the seasoned fighter that Buffy was to become within the next few years here, we're talking about a young, frightened, relatively inexperienced girl. That she survived at all is certain proof that her guardian angel, the real one, not the broody one, was taking special interest in her welfare.

The first time Buffy was under his trance.
She did manage to shoot an arrow at him though.

The second fight on the roof I think it had to do with confidence, her death before hand must have triggered it.
Like with Dracula, in the end when he tried to put her in his trance after tasting his blood it made her see different things and in turn made her resist.

Well, I think she was scared. At one point she knew her life is probably going to end, and she is only 16 years old. But she didn't have any strength to fight because she was thinking about how all this is going to end. Someone else is going to save the world and she will be free. I just bought book BtVS and Philosophy and it is very intersting.

Prophacy Girl was a good end to the season, but like some I thought she would have put a better fight, lose it and continue with the plot. When she goes in for the second fight I think she remarks that she feels stronger.
