Buffy in Sanctuary!

It's funny listening to what Doug Petrie says about 'This Years Girl'. He wanted to have Buffy punch her straight away. Faith asks Buffy to interpret her dream 'what does it all mean college girl' Buffy says 'well you know what Freud said *punch* ofcourse I'm translating' :lmao:

Joss thought that was a little harsh because she just came out of a coma, heh.

Um if she had done that I would have hated Buffy with a passion for the rest of the series. Or at least the season. How much a bitch did they want to make her? Geez.
 
buffy had a right to be angry at faith. Faith screwed her life up royally, when Buffy only tried to be her friend. Faith even admitted to that in this episode.

however, she had no right to treat angel the way she did. throwing her new life in his face, when it didn't even have anything to do with the current situation was pretty low.
 
I did kinda think she was being a little too angry but being mad was understandible. Faith really messed up her life when she was in Sunnydale. She stole her body just to feel appreciated. Buffy isn't just going to say Hi Faith how's it going? She had the right to be pissed. I still don't think she should've been mad at Angel...but yeah. She wasn't a bitch.
 
I just rewatched this episode.

Now, please take into account I was blindingly drunk and screaming at the top of my lungs at the screen. My friends basically had to duct tape my mouth shut because I wouldn't stop yelling.

I realize now that if I hadn't liked Buffy before, this episode is the one that made me hate her. If season three didn't already drive that point home.

GAH. Thinking about it makes me wanna hit things.

Yeah Buffy really pissed me off in this episode. I mean I PERFECTLY understand Buffy being upset at Faith. But then you must also remember that Buffy has a superiority complex especially when it comes to murderers, I mean look at everytime she would get mad at Angel or anything like that she'd always bring up that he's a vampire or bring up something about him murdering people or even when she said I believe it was this episode she said something like I'm sorry I can't join your club I've never murdered anyone. But yeah she REALLY pissed me off when she made her comment at the end about how great her life is and lalalala your life is all miserable now, but it was funny how the tables turned when her life was all miserable and Riley came back and she got pissed at him saying did you just come back here to rub your new happy life in my face? So yeah Karma is a bitch. And I think that whole thing with "You hit me." Was soooo I wanted to stake her right there. Not only did she hit Angel first, she was about to hit him again but Angel blocked the second attack and THEN hit her. And it wasn't like she hit him accidentally.
 
I think Buffy just had to be persona non grata in this eppy. Her reaction is understandable and people say and do strange things when they're angry... Angel was right to tell her off, Buffy had reasons to be angry... nobody's really right or wrong, and about Buffy's Bitch factor, well, who hasn't had one of those days?

I guess they sort of used the moment to define the boundaries between both shows and both Buffy and Angels life at the time...

Yeah I know I just think Petrie writes the best Buffy banter for my money... along with Joss of course. I thought what he wanted to write was so funny.
I agree that Buffy was a bitch in this episode, clearly. I know she had a right to be but bloody hell, jealous much, I don't like how her character judges situations really fast.
 
Yeah, buffy had the right to be mighty pissed off with faith and she felt betrayed that Angel was helping her greatest enemy but yes buffy was a big a bitch as we;ve ever seen in this episode. she does appear very agressive and imature. i think she is supposed to be like this to highlight the difference in Buffy and Angel and how they are really not on the same wave length anymore. I also think it was supposed to hit all the totally commited Bangels over the head and say "IT's OVER PEOPLE!!!'
 
I do not, by any means, condone Buffy's actions in Sanctuary. However, I do understand her reasoning for such behavior.

Regarding the scene in which Angel consoles Faith, yes, Buffy over-reacted. If one paid attention to what occurred prior to Buffy's arrival, you will remember seeing Angel stepping out of the shower to check on Faith just before she became engrossed by the news bulletin concerning her location, as well as being attacked by Wolfram & Hart's demon-assassin. Less-than a minute after Angel's shower, Angel heard a crash while he was getting dressed. Without hesitation, Angel rushed to Faith's aid as he put on his last article of clothing. After the demon was taken care of, Angel saw Faith's distraught look as she gazed at the demon's blood upon her hands. Presumably, the demon blood reminded Faith of her past, which thwarted her into confronting her problem, and thus Angel comforted Faith. Buffy then enters the room, only to see what appears to be her first love, ex-boyfriend and lover holding an unknown (for a few seconds) woman.

Buffy: ''How... What are you doing?''
Angel: ''She - we were attacked.''
Buffy: ''We? - You and...''
Angel: ''Faith.''
Buffy: ''You and Faith.''
Angel: ''Oh, it's not what you think.''
Buffy: ''You actually think that I can form a thought right now? - Giles heard that - that she tried to kill you.''
Angel: ''That's true.''
Buffy: ''So you decided to punish her with a severe cuddling.''

Judging from the camera's angle, and Faith's position, it was difficult for Buffy to recognize the woman on Angel's bed, and this is why Buffy pauses (as her eyes wander to the bed), only to have Angel reveal Faith's identity.

Buffy wasn't just jealous, and she wasn't just jealous because she saw Faith and Angel together in the same room. Buffy was jealous before she knew who was with Angel, but finding out that it was in fact Faith didn't help the matter at all, and if you include the apparent scenario, her reaction is all the more understandable. Buffy was upset (with righteous reasoning, yet again) with Faith when she slept with Riley in Who Are You?, and Buffy only cared for Riley. But, this is Angel, and the difference lies in that
she loves him.

So, yeah.... the mere thought of the love of my life sleeping with my enemy would tend to make me a bit cranky, too.

As for Buffy visiting L.A. to seek revenge, I don't believe that. I believe Buffy wants revenge, sure, but that wasn't her main priority contrary to popular belief; her main priority was to help Angel, if not to ensure his safety.

Lastly, in the police station, both Buffy and Angel were at fault.

Angel was at fault for saying, ''Buffy, this wasn't about you! This was about saving somebody's soul. That's what I do here, and you're not a part of it. - That was your idea, remember? We stay away from each other.'' Bringing up such an issue is obviously going to lead into a conversation about their past romantic relationship, which is touchy for the both of them. Knowing Buffy, Angel couldn't have possibly thought that Buffy would let such a statement just roll off of her shoulders.

Because Buffy was hurting, she mentioned her life with Riley in retaliation to what Angel already said. I believe she told Angel about Riley because she felt it was time to do so, and that she might as well get it out of the way as opposed to waiting, because that could only complicate things further. Additional retaliation ensues when Buffy takes a stab at Angel by saying that she ''knows" and "trusts'' Riley (Buffy feels betrayed by Angel because he didn't mention to her that he was protecting Faith; one assumes Buffy is mentioning ''knowing'' Riley because she feels he would never go as far as to betray her), which ends in Angel attempting to hurt Buffy by saying she "doesn't know" him any longer.

Buffy seems to have that double standard about all of her exes. She seemed hurt when she learned how happy Riley and Sam were, to the point that she had to run to Spike, not only to "scratch her itch" but also to have him tell her that he loves her. She gets all hurt and angry when Spike and Anya have a round on the table in the Magic Shop, even though she had told him to move on. Finally, remember the look of shock and pain (the emotional kind, not physical) when she finds out that Spike can hit her, even though she'd just hit him. This is one of Buffy's big flaws. She seems to have a double standard about her ability to have new boyfriends, while the guys have to carry a torch forever. Maybe there would have been a certain irony if she really had had the hots for the Immortal, since he seems to have a "love 'em and leave 'em" attitude.

I love a good meaty discussion i have to say i agree with both current statements.Most of the former one.
However Angel was right in saying what he said to Buffy, he was very annoyed that even though it was clear he was saving Faith (and he did say so before Buffy went further into her rant:

But because of her jealousy she was sticking with her initial conclusion.)

Buffy just continued to be bitchy, and although he was saving her, Buffy was
trying to run Faith down and he must of felt that was hindering Faith from her redemption. Hense his annoyance in the station.
If you were trying to help someone back on the right path and you were swamped by someone alondside being nasty to them you'd feel that was
going to undo what you were trying to do, and naturally get annoyed.

However although i do understand Buffy's reaction let's not forget that she should of known when to put and end to it and let Faith continue to find her redemption.
