Buffy instead of Darla?

So I've heard that Julie auditioned for the part of Buffy. What would you think if Julie had been cast as Buffy instead of SMG? Do you think she would have done a good job? I think she would be decent enough except she just seems to have a soft voice that I couldn't really see the character of Buffy having.

Someho I can only imagine her as the evil, seductive kind. Like already said, a lot of that lies in her voice.
Also, I can't really imagine her punning like the SMG Buffy somehow.

I can't see her working as Buffy, i don't thing she looked young enough for a start. I also think she was made to play Darla she's just so good at being bad! which includes her voice it has a darker tone/quality to it, not breezy and light like SMG and she's looks like how i would imagine Darla.

I cant see her as Buffy. Even in the pilot she looked older than all of the "teens" and she had to sweet of a voice for her.

I don't think she's only suited to play a dark character - she was excellent in Dexter after all. However, I wouldn't give up Darla on Angel for anything - Julie really made that character wonderful.

I know that I'm gonna get jumped on here by somebody, but, aside from the fact that, even in Season 1, Julie looked a bit too old for the role of a high school freshman, she could have played Buffy just as well as Sarah did. The character would have almost certainly been something other than the Buffy that we have all come to know and love, but she would have done the job just fine.

THen SMG would be Cordelia which would have been entertaining to see.

I don't know, she was good as Darla but I don't really see her as a good leading lady. I've seen her in other things, and found her performance a bit lacking. I think Darla was the character for her and I wouldn't have dug her as Buffy.

I agree with Lindsey. She can play a 'good' character very well. She is absolutely adorable in Dexter! I think she could have done the character of Buffy proud. But its difficult to imagine anyone else playing Buffy when we've come to love SMG for it.

like people have said, i'm sure she could have played buffy and done really well, but i just can't imagine it. smg is buffy and julie benz is such an amazing darla, and that's how it'll always be.

I agree she looked too old to be a school kid. Plus, i dunno, but i didn't think she seemed athletic enough to be slayer, just the way Tara wouldn't suit it. Now, Amy Acker, She could have pulled it off, she'd suit being Buffy the vampire slayer.

I really love her as Darla and as Rita (her character on Dexter) and they are very, very different characters but I still don't think she would work as Buffy. I just don't see her being a preppy high school girl.

No. I think Julie can't speak as fast+cute as SMG. And it's gonna be hard for her to do action scenes. I also think SMG's body is more flexible. 🙂

I still don't see Julie playing Buffy. I doubt anyone else will agree, but I think a younger Sarah Jessica Parker could have pulled off Buffy, I think she and Sarah Gellar have very similar acting styles.

Being younger/older don't always show in the way you look though, which has been the main point for most. Not their actual age.

As for seeing Julie as Buffy I'm sure it would have worked if it had gone that way. But it's a bit difficult imagining now.

I would agree that she didn't look young enough as well. Julie is beautiful - but Sarah had that young-ish, innocent valley-girl thing going on in the beginning, which was the point. And plus, Julie can't pout nearly as good as Sarah can 🙂

Katie Holmes was offered the role, but she declined to do Dawson's Creek instead.
