this was one of the earliest interpretations of the First's plans, before much had happened, but considering how little made sense later I don't know that people who subscribed to it ever really shifted away from it. The Bang and the Word are obviously the Big Bang and the Word of God, human ideas of how the world was created. And it says it wants to go back to the true beginning. Before those things. ....Or before Man, before science, before the Bible, before all those human concepts even existed. Before human civilization. Going back to demons, demonic power when Old Ones strode the Earth and gobbled up cavepeople by the handful.

The basic problem is, 80% of the First's plan is revealed in like what, three lines of dialogue? And where did the concept of "Balance" come from? It's not a part of western metaphysics or ethics, you really have to explain that stuff. Not everyone has read Sandman.

The secondary problem is, the First is expy Satan, and doesn't really fit well in a world of the Old Ones Irredentists, not without better world building. Old Ones are just god-aliens, sure, they will destroy humanity as soon as the snooze button goes off, but human notions of good and evil are foreign to them. Whereas the First acts out of Malice towards humanity and some higher notion of immorality.
 
While this is all fascinating, it feels like maybe the thread has drifted a bit?

Tough one. This is about what Buffy was kicking the random stranger out into without a weapon or making sure he had wheels, as well as if her actions were comparable to what had been done to her. A bit focused, but not a true drift, IMO.
Right.

So, in S7 Buffy and The First have the same basic problem; their mind-set a lot of the time is incompetently expressed to the point where I don't understand why the writers think Buffy acting the way she is is justified/in character many a time.

SMG had the same problem btw, didn't understand Buffy...but at least she enjoyed being villainous and talky as The First.
 
@thrasherpix well that’s fine, but what the First’s plan was is probably best left to a thread of its own, which is where this was going. Fascinating as mentioned, but definitely drifting
