I disagree. 🙂 I thought his intention was to help her. He does warn her that she is living on a Hellmouth and about the Harvest. Obviously, she already knows this thanks to Giles, but Angel doesn't know that. The whole point of his relocation to Sunnydale was to help her. After all, he offered her important information and gave her a a cross intended for her protection. He does make it clear they're not friends, though - I think at that point he intended to be only an ally to her.

His entire reason for even being in Sunnydale was to help her. While Buffy hadn't come to the point where she needed his help yet that was his sole purpose for being there. Also, the warning he gave her about The Harvest was him helping her, as was the cross he gave her which later in the episode saved her life and allowed her the chance to evade Luke.

She was a 16-year-old highschool girl who has been a SLayer for a about a year(back in L.A), she tries to get away from her destiny and she hates vampires cause practically they are the reason she can't have a normal life. She would have staked Angel despite the fact she really liked him.

There is a reason Angel tried to make her trust him, cause his initial reason was to help the Slayer in her mission. He didnt know that the moment he saw her, his whole life and attitude in love would change.

Certainly that was his reason for being there. I don't question that. But when Buffy and Angel first met, he had followed her into an alley like a common stalker. Even when she asked him who he was, "I'm a friend...I never said that I was YOUR friend," wouldn't fill anyone's heart with warm wiggly shivers. At that point, if she knew who and what he was, Angel would most likely have been dust pan material, no questions asked, just like any other vampire.

Afterwords, once he had had time to impress her with his Irish charm (almost as irresistible as Southern charm, but not quite) Buffy was able to see the tortured, repentant being inside the body of the blood sucking fiend, and develop feelings for him. When they first met, however, that wasn't the case.
 
He left NY to go to Sunnydale, after only seeing her, because he wanted to help her. I think that is an attempt 😉

Following her into the alley was to test her abilities, to see if she knew he had been following her. Everything about the first two episodes was about Angel gauging Buffy's level. His very last words in the WTTH was "Well I'll be damned". He was figuring out how good she was to, I assume, figure out how he could help her. He had to gain her trust, that line was to get her attention which it very much did.

It isn't as black and white as you discribed it.

...which is my very point. At that point, he did not yet have her trust, therefore, if she had known in that alley that Angel was a vampire, Buffy would have staked him BEFORE he ever had a chance to gain that trust. At that point, he would have been just another vampire, and at that time in her life, it actually WAS that black and white.

We had already established that Buffy would have staked him.This wasn't the point we were debating though. You said Angel didn't attempt to help Buffy at all during that initial meeting and I said his very being there was his attempt at help and he actually helped her by giving her the cross.

If you are saying that you can only attempt to help people by having their trust and them thus acknowledging that help then I have to disagree.
 
Hmmm. I mean, Buffy listened when he spoke even when she didn't know he was a vampire, yet he was still creepy lol.

I really don't know...

The first season was only 12 episodes long... hardly six discs.

She's 16 lol.

And what does being a good slayer have to do with the topic at hand...?

Okay, then I will revise. At the time of their first meeting, as far as Buffy knew, Angel had been of no help to her whatsoever. Any trust that she might feel in him had not yet been established.

I would agree with this, she would've tried and he would have gotten away. He would probably have had a harder time sweet talking her after that though...
