How different do you think that the first three seasons of Buffy would have been if Buffy had had no one helping her but Giles? No Xander, Willow, Angel, Cordelia, or any of he other support people who helped make he show interesting.

It would have made the show a lot less entertaining that's for sure. I'am not sure Buffy would have survived the first three seasons without the Scoobies. It would also be quite horrible to watch her fight alone with no one there by her side, that was one of the reasons why the show appealed to me. It was a team effort plus the show was built on the many relationships Buffy had with her friends and enemies.

She would have died, suffocated to death and alone in a cave underneath Sunnydale, killed by the Master.

Actually, it might have happened a lot sooner than that. There were a few times in the earlier episodes where Xander and Willow's presence, even Angel's, allowed Buffy the distraction that was needed to kill the bad guy.

If not before, The Three would have definitely had her in 'Angel'. Although I'm sure there's probably something even before then.

I doubt she'd have managed to get through The Harvest without a group of people helping out. She'd have had to deal with both the fighting and the shepherding of innocents. But, say she did make it through everything, she'd have been a much more damaged person. She'd have had the same trust issues as Faith, and with nothing really to tether her to life, her Slayer death wish would have kicked in much sooner.

She would die probably. Her personality would be like Buffy from The Wish had. She would be lonely, and in the end dead. And show wouldn't be so good with only her, it doesn't matter how good her acting was 😉

I think we got our answer to this in The Wish.

I'm not so sure that what we saw in the Wishverse would be the same thing. That Buffy's attitude was more like Faith's, something formed over a lifetime of hardship and rejection. Buffy would have been the same valley girl who came to Sunnydale, slightly scarred by what had happened to in Los Angeles, but still our Buffy. The changes would happen once she realized where she was and what a hellmouth really was. With no one to help her cope with that except Giles (who, at that time, was little more than an older version of Wesley Wyndham-Pryce) assuming that she managed to survive those three years, I think that she would have been closer to Dana than Faith in behavior. Or like Angel was on Cordy's alternate reality sequence, where he received Doyle's gift of prophecy instead of her.

I don't think she would have gone the Dana-route. That girl had a lot of problems before she became a Slayer, which Buffy didn't.

If Buffy didn't have Willow and Xander, she would be different, yes, but I agree about 'The Wish' being our answer to this question if she'd lived that long. She might not have had friends, but she was still part of the world, she still had her Mom, Giles, and, depending on whether or not the spell was cast, Dawn to keep her grounded. Dana had no one, and that's why she went crazy.

Angel was different. Cordelia was his 'humanity' on the show. Wed and Gunn were all about the mission, so without Cordy to help ground him, the images in his head of course sent him round the twist.

I certainly don't believe she would have been like Dana, I think her circumstances would have to have been truly horrific for her entire life for that to happen. I also don't think she would turn into Faith, simply because even though she rebelled against the Watchers and Council she still knew right from wrong.

If Buffy had never encountered the Scoobies she would have remained the girl who left Hemery rejected by her friends and embittered by their treatment of her and the injustice of her destiny. She would have become the girl who went through the next three years without the support and understanding of her friends and the love of Angel. She would be the girl who never flourished under the guidance of Giles and did nothing but slay. She would have been hardened and reclusive, untrusting of everyone that came in her path. Her entire reason for being would have been the kill.

She would be Wishverse Buffy.

Actually, this is Wishverse Buffy. The wish was specifically "I wish Buffy Summers had never come to Sunnydale". No different childhood, no different trauma. Just a change of location to a different Hellmouth, with Giles rather than another watcher. Perhaps Giles would have been able to connect with her more than the Cleveland watcher did (that was where she was in The Wish, right?) but I doubt it would have had much of an effect.

Preach!
Buffy would have been dead. She saved them, but they saved her at times too. Buffy drew strength from her friends. I think she would have given up without them. They brought something close to normal to her life. Without her friends in her life, she would have been empty. People like Kendra were good at coping without friends or someone to talk to because that was all she knew. Buffy used to have a normal life so she knew what it was like to have friends, so I think she would have had a terrible time coping with it. Even with friends, she felt like she was alone. So if she literally been alone, I think she would have gone crazy in a sense. The show would have sucked. The characters made the show and Buffy would have been depressing.

The Scoobies are all that makes her The Slayer rather than just another slayer. Even forgetting the big threats, Spike alone would have demolished a heartless Buffy.

She would be Wishverse Buffy.

I didn't say that she would be like Dana, I said that she would be CLOSER TO Dana than Faith. Faith's attitude, and pretty much that of the Wishverse's Buffy, appeared to be the kind of tough girl attitude that usually requires a lifetime of being ignored at best, or abused at worst. Buffy almost certainly wouldn't go that route because, until she came to Sunnydale, she was loved, had friends, and was pretty much happy, if slightly shallow, if we go by what little we have seen of her life in LA. Coming to Sunnydale, and the hellmouth, would have been a total shock, and a challenge to cope in her new environment, pretty much like what happened to her at the beginning of Season 6, though certainly not to that kind of extreme. As a result, I believe that her natural defense would be some kind of denial or withdrawal (again, not to the extent that Dana did, and probably not the way that she completely shut down in Season 5 when Glory took Dawn, but something along those lines) In any event, I don't believe that she have gone go all tough girl like Wishverse Buffy or like Faith.

But Wishverse Buffy had the same childhood, and she went through the same thing of moving to a hellmouth in a different environment. It just happened to be Cleveland Joyce "chose" rather than Sunnydale.

If Buffy didn't have The Scoobies she wouldn't have lasted past Prophecy Girl...which is why it cracks me up when some fans whine about Empty Places and how ungrateful they were. 😎 She needed them, not just to help keep her tethered to life and her humanity but because they have actually helped keep her alive.

For a start, Buffy wouldn't have survived in Prophecy Girl because Xander saved her and Angel couldn't.

These are assuming she'd have approached Prophecy Girl in the same way. Without her friends, would she have had the courage to face the prophecy like that? Even if she had, with so much less to lose would she have fought differently? It's not quite as cut and dry as that.
