Buffy movie being developed without Joss

What you say is true Andrew, yet if you check out a Buffy DVD you'll find Sand Dollar and Kazui are mentioned in the copyright info "in association with 20th century fox".

As I understand it it's a complicated legal mess when you start talking partial rights. I've heard Whedon, Greenwalt, and even Dolly Parton mentioned as having fingers in the pie.

Ask yourself this though. Why do the Kuzuis get a producer credit in the TV series when they never actually did any producing on it?

Even if the Kuzuis hold a portion of the copyrights and trademarks... which I doubt... an exclusive licensing deal (such as a movie... no studio would touch it unless it was exclusive) requires the approval of ALL copyright holders. That means however you slice it, Fox must agree for this movie to get made.

Really, the threat of legal action by a big studio like Fox would be all that's needed. Fox's lawyers could keep this in legal limbo until Joss and the Kuzuis are hurling insults at each other across the hall at the nursing home.
 
Actually, I'm with you Andrew. I'll believe that project is going to happen when I see it cast, and in production. Until then color me skeptic.
 
I can only speak for myself, but I will watch any movie with the name "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" included in its title, or anything "inspired by characters created by Joss Whedon." There's been more than one Tarzan, Robin Hood, James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, Lone Ranger, Flash Gordon, Dr Who, and now we even have a new Captain Kirk, Spock, and Terminator. Buffy and her crew are special, but not so special that there aren't any other actors capable of playing the roles.

If anybody wants to meet me at the theater, I'll buy the popcorn.

That's true....but those re-boots and remakes didn't have the Kazui's at the helm.....the original film did.


And it sucked.
 
Having the proposed new movie be focused on a Slayer other than Buffy seems to be the safest route to take with something like this, though I will miss the old gang.

Sucked is such a harsh word. Peewee's death scene made up for everything else. And Donald Sutherland as Merrick shows what a real professional can do with even a weak role. Rutger Hauer? I prefer to remember him from "Ladyhawke." As for Kristy Swanson, I can only say, "Thank god Phoebe Cates wasn't available!"

The thing is, "Buffy" is all the Kazui's have got. I don't think they'd be allowed to make a movie that isn't about that basic premise.
I just don't see the purpose of remaking the original film. If the purpose is to "take Buffy to a new place"; didn't the show accomplish that? None of the hardcore fans (which compromise most of the Buffy fandom) are going to see this film. This isn't like Star Trek. I don't see a whole new generation of people going to see his film and becoming fans of the franchise. The people who are going to see this are fans who want to bash it, or teenies who think it will be similar to Twilight. I just don't see the point. The original film has it's charm.
 
Jeeze at least make it fit into the existing canon, god!

And the existing film did so well - let's do it again!

The only reason Buffy is a success is because of the TV show. The show is iconic. You can't make a movie and ignore that!
 
It's going to be called BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER WHO ISN'T REALLY BUFFY BUT WE NEEDED THIS TITLE FOR NAME RECOGNITION.

(Note that Fox absolutely claims the trademark on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and the character Buffy, so there's gonna be a fight.)
 
So, here's the thing: if this movie were to get made it has both the potential to be even campier and waaaaay worse than the original Buffy movie (which, don't get me wrong, I love it and own it and it has a special place on my movie shelf [though not next to the series DVDs because that just seems like it would be wrong somehow...] where was I? Oh yeah) OR it has the potential to be the most awesome, dark, edgy, Buffy done RIGHT kind of movie that Joss hoped to make in the first place. Which, frankly, would pretty much break my heart especially if they didn't involve the team from the series.

I'm definitely with White Avenger though - if it happens I will certainly be in the theatre to see it with my fingers crossed.

Oh, and in the remake can they make sure *not* to include that gross part about her "spidey sense" being lady cramps? Cuz, um, EW. Still grosses me out.
 
The whole Star Trek analogy does not hold water at all.

When they rebooted Star Trek was the only charactor they kept Kirk?

No Spock,Scotty,Chekov or Uhura? N😵f course not.

This would be "Buffy" in name only.

It would be FUFFY. FUFFY = Fake bUFFY

Fox and Whedon need to put those coat tail riding hack "producers" down hard,and fast.

Has Joss responded to this anywhere yet?
