:: vampire i for one would love to see a new buffy/angel project and i think it would be perfect for big screen and i mean they did it with x-files and sex and the city and i know that buffy and angel both have droves more fans so someone should tell joss to crank one more out for old time sakes... i know the fans would love it, in fact if it did happen i could see it being #1 in the box office on its opening weekend easy... would be a great release for 2009 halloween season and i think the timing is definantly right!!! ::bbat::

It will never happen and no way it would be #1. Look how badly the X-Files movie did. I would go so far as to say there is no chance a Buffy movie ever being made with the same supporting cast in place.

Seeing the glass half empty much?
who wouldn't love to see an on screen conversion of either or both series and even though its been a few years, look what success the resent "sex and the city" and "X-files" movies did and it was just as long since they wrapped on those projects so i think it could be really big... even a strait to dvd thing would be pretty cool, but not as cool as a big screen thing!!! what does everyone else think?

Oh well, as long as you think then thats fine.

Someone pass me the bat phone and I will call Joss personally.
😛

Seriously though, a movie is unlikely and in agreement with Scobro, with the cast staying the same, near on impossible.

Sad day. However improbable it may be I have always lived with the hope that this would happen. If Joss can do it with Firefly why the hell cant he do it with Buffy?!

People have moved on to bigger and better things; and when your supporting male figures are not meant to age, it makes looking young difficult. Plus, Buffy never had a large fanbase, and it has failed as a movie once before. Firefly was a miracle, and nothing short of.

For starters the companies would ONLY commission a Buffy the Vampire Slayer WITH the main cast especially SMG and she has stated a few times she wishes to distance herself from the role.

I really don't see SMG reprising the role as long as she has other movies, especially as she seems to want to be a real A-lister (who can blame her).

Buffy's first movie was before the series. Now that the series got really successful it has a chance to succeed as a movie. Firefly succeeded because of Buffy fans. Buffy fans saw the series because it was Joss' project, that's why it succeeded, not because of a miracle.

I like having the faith that Buffy will be a movie once again, and if that happens, it will do much better than the Firefly movie and of course the original Buffy movie.

But you're right about the moving on thing. But maybe if Sarah does the new series, maybe she would have time to shoot a movie, like she did when she was on Buffy.

*Fingers crossed*

how is it REALLY successful, that is twice you said that. It has a cult following. X-Files was more 'successful' than the Buffy series.
it has a chance to succeed as a movie.
Explain how the movie would succeed. You would have to inform the masses that know nothing about it with TONS of backstory before the movie even starts, or risk alienating a large groups of people.

How can you say Firefly succeeded when it didnt even last ONE season? The Buffy fans had nothing to do with the Serenity movie, a movie which in terms of Hollywood, was a failure. Take the blinders off.

It's very rare to see a series that people are still talking about and love watching, even after years off the air. From my poing of view, both Buffy and X-Files were successful, and the fact that the X-Files movie didn't do well as a movie, doesn't mean Buffy won't.

Firefly succeeded for a one season series. And many series that were very good and succeesed were cancelled after not that many seasons. Alias for example had only 5 season although it was very successful.

Oh jesus it is not that serious. Really?! Here is the deal. Buffy and Angel still has quite a fan base. That is just reality. It is not so far fetched to say that a movie is possible. I understand that five years ago SMG said she wanted to distance herself from the role but in an interview less than 3 months ago she said on a buffy panel that she would like to work with Joss again therefore I think it is possible. Additionally, yes David and Spike are older but at the same time if you look at both of them now they are in great shape and could totally pull off those characters again. Keep hope alive, that is what I say 🙂

There is a difference between keeping hope alive and living in a fantasy world.

We should also look at how many times we've had promises of something new and then it has been dropped.

What was the last we heard about Ripper?
Ohh it was full steam ahead UNTIL Dollhouse then nothing much.

Spike/Illyria spin off?
There was full steam ahead, people seemed interested UNTIL Joss decided he wouldn't really be as involved as he should have been and BOOM, nothing.

I have never been a fan of Whedon because although he comes across to people as someone who 'loves his fans' I truly believe he thinks they are HIS fans and not fans of the show(which is not true for everyone - alot of people who love Buffy on a TV level won't even know who he is) and the fact that he has lost backing over time has really hit him hard - hence, in my opinion, doing the Comic.
He has stuffed us everytime something shiny and new has come along and I don't believe he really wants his career to be defined by Buffy - so a movie is probably a no-no.

As per SMG saying she wants to work with Joss again, that doesn't mean Buffy. That means she wants to work with him in something - maybe a guest spot on Dollhouse.

Buffy has a fairly appreciative fan base BUT in terms of box office numbers thats not nearly enough to warrant a movie, no a studio budget one anyway.

Studios are out to make money, simple as. They don't care about artistic flair SO if a movie was a viable route, then you bet that people would have been busting down ALL the key players doors.

And yes, the fact that X-Files, with its HUGE fanbase, was a failure in the box office (though I enjoyed the film) will definitely be another nail in the Buffy Movie.

Because the dumbs made it a stand-alone instead of a mythos story! What did you really expect to happen.

Don't get me started on that.

I did like the movie BUT it REALLY ought to have finished the Arc. I mean there were issues with the film as well, including how easily Mulder was let off and such.

BUT the studios will still see the flop that it was and that would go against a Buffy movie.

I, for one...would REALLY like to see a Buffy movie just like all of you...BUT, I recently ready that SMG has signed on to do a pilot show for an up-coming HBO series starting to film after the 1st of the year.... So, if that is a success...any hopes of a movie anytime soon (even if there is a script and potential) will be squashed 🙁

It doesn't hurt anyone to keep some hope that maybe all parties necessary will get it together and make a Buffy/Angel movie. DB, Aly, Eliza, Julie and Amy are the only ones currently with prior commitments to a TV show, and films can always be made during hiatus. I do think if this is ever going to happen, if Joss is genuinely interested in making it happen, it does have to be within the next few years, 5 max, and even that may be pushing it for DB, James, Juliet and Julie to pull of vamps. And eventhough on first run Buffy didn't didn't bring in big ratings numbers that is no indicator of how a film would make out now. Buffy, being the cult hit that it is, gains new fans everyday, fans that didn't watch it or even knew about it when it originally aired (this board should be a prime example of that) So I think its fair to say that Buffy today has MANY more fans out there than it did back when ratings weren't so great and all those fans would go out in droves to see a film on the big screen.

A Buffy Movie is probably the most unlikely/coolest thing that could ever happen to my life at this moment. (Yes, I'm that much of a loser. 🙂 )

However, I'd probably literally sh** bricks if there was an annoucnement of a movie. Just writing this gives me the shivers. Also, I strongly disagree with scobro because with Joss being, well, Joss... And having the right amount of hype-driven news (and other things of the sort), this movie could be absolutely brilliant, and money-making to boot. I can just see "HUGE NEWS! Buffy the Vampire Slayer to be ressurected in the form of a movie!" On the front of IGN.com. Then around the time it would come out they would have a special release thing on the side bar! OH GOD! I'm so excited!!!!!!
(Don't you dare bring my hopes down guys)
