Buffy Pretenders In The Opening Credits!

yYes, my biggest annoyance was the fact it was an 'Evil' incarnation in season 7. Heck, Joss constantly went on how it was a back to basics year, why he couldn't have done a small evolution of the characters with in the title sequence(a few shots from particular points over the previous 6 years) i don't know. I mean Power Stance Buffy from 'Anne' was, for me, the best, would it have hurt to have her in the titles....or, even Buffy doing the Dive into the portal in 'The Gift', showing her sacrifice.......Hell, i'd have even settled for Normal again Buffy, at least its that Character, not the evil interpretation of her.

How so? Whilst it makes a sort of sense that the Buffybot replaced Buffy her for season six, due to the nature of that season's storyline for Buffy, there was no point in season seven where Buffy herself was evil. What would be the point of an "evil interpretation" of Buffy in the opening titles? It doesn't follow. Now if the First had somehow corrupted Buffy during the year then maybe that would make sense, but that didn't happen.

The truth is that in both cases it was probably a error of judgment by the people who were responsible for putting the opening titles together. Most likely they were given a bunch of shots of the various characters to use and may not even have been aware of the show's storylines at the time. Therefore they saw a cool image of Sarah, assumed it was Buffy and went with it.

My only issue with that is that you would also assume that Joss gave the final approval on everything to do with the show, opening titles included, so you would think that at least he would pick up on the mistaken identities, certainly in the case of the First, even if not in the less obvious Buffybot example. Somebody should ask him about that, lol! 🙂
 
Well, it WAS Buffy's coming back that started the first's plan. Many fans didnt like some of the things that buffy did this season.

OR it could be a hidden meaning of Buffy battling her SELF this time. I dont know. I'm just trying to logicalize Joss making the titles the way they were.

Actually your first point is sort of workable, as it was Buffy's resurrection that allowed the First to act and therefore caused the whole thing to happen. At a stretch that could be made to work.

Not sure that your second idea is really workable though as the credits were put together long before the fans had any idea what Buffy would do in that season, let alone would be able to decide they didn't like it. Having said that, i would say it was the Scoobies and potentials that had more of a problem with what Buffy did, i don't really recall the general fanbase disagreeing with her actions overall.

The truth is though, even if we could give a logical reason why Buffy was replaced in the titles to season seven, it still wouldn't be a good enough reason, simply because it was the final year of her show and if anyone was going to get the money shot in the titles it should have been the one, true Buffy.
 
Well, the shot for Season 7 was actually Buffy.
That was when she was watching Spike while he was chained up in the basement. Then the Bringers attacked, thus stealing Spike away.
 
Nope, that shot was definately of the First, from right at the end of the first episode of season 7, Lessons. The scene where the First changes into all the various Big Bads (The Master, Drusilla, etc) until finally ending up as Buffy. Trust me on this! 😉

Or at least for the last couple episodes...like they did for angel...though that was because of the Fred/Illyria thing, and Mercedes was added to the credits..rite?

Yeah, that's right! They made a few alterations to the opening titles of Angel when Mercedes was made a regular and also used that as an opportunity to include Illyria in place of Fred.
 
So, since it was the last episode, then they could/should have made alterations...am i rite? At least to show the story from s1-s7...to get to why they are there...

Well, technically they could alter the titles whenever they felt like it. If you remember they altered them for Superstar, the episode where Jonothan altered reality to make himself a hero.

Thing is that little things like that take money out of the show budget and so they only tend to do it when it is absolutely necessary, say, when a new regular actor is added. But yeah, it definately could have been done.
 
Okay...so I dont know what all goes into producing a show...but if my show was ending after 7 years? I'd like to go out with a bang...which yeh, thats kinda what happened..not my point. So, even the little things that cost a lot of money, i would change...so it would feel more like an end..
 
You can only use the money you are budgetted and its not an endless supply......to redo the credits, you take money from somewhere else, subtract a character, less special effects, a member of crew go, song's be taken out......
The coffers don't pay more money because its the end of the show....you are given a budget at the beginning of the season, you justify every single thing along the way to the execs, you dont run a scheme of, i'll pay you when we re-coup the money...if you don't have the funds, it won't be done......
Jeez Sk8, you really need to learn about something before you make comments........
Every single penny of a show is accounted for, they dont come to the end and say...ohh heres an extra ten grand we didnt know we had....lets have a light show......
 
I didnt know they replaced Fred with Illyria in the credits. I knew they added mercedes but Ive never seen them. My friend Craig taped the season and thats how Ive seen it but after the first episode he started cutting out the credits. 🙁

Cutting the credits out? I get missing out the ad breaks, i do that myself if i'm taping a full series to save space on the tape, but the opening titles are part of the show! Hearing the music is one of the things that gets you in the mood for the episode coming up!

Tell your friend that he has weird ideas! 😀
 
Like i said, i didnt even realise they made Harmony a main character til way later when I read it somewhere. 🙁
