1)Buffy Season 9 will run two years.

2)25 issues of Buffy's book and 25 issues of Angel's.

3)Buffy Season 9:Angel #1 will be out last week of August.

4)Buffy Season 9:Buffy #1 will be out the second week of September.

5)Official announcements including some of the creative team being introduced will be at Wonder Con next month at the Dark Horse panel there.

6)Buffy Season 10 is confirmed.

Money, Xaphania, money. Joss is a professional as well as an artist. If he can keep making money off of Buffy, Angel, Spike, and the others, he'll do it. Just look at how long "Superman" has been written.
I can see why everyone is a bit upset by it. I love that the fandom is going to be kept alive, but after the disaster that was s8, you can't blame everyone for not being pro s9 or s10. However, if they bring Tara back, and NOT kill her again, they still got me buying their comics 😛

My initial response to that question: $$$$

But maybe I'm being too cynical.

Whatever the reasons of Buffy (and I assume Angel) being carried on into Season 10, I don't support it. Unless there is some marked sustained surge in quality (which there hasn't been since The Gift) I firmly believe the kindest thing Joss could do for the story and the fans, is to end it. As gracefully as possible.

I disagree with The Gift being the last mark of quality (♥S6 and S7) but agree with the rest of it. He's milking a cash cow and it's not working very well.

I don't think Joss will ever let go of that story. It's too difficult for him. He said so in Paleyfest and I do believe that until the show is actually brought back to bring the comics on the small screen, or until HE makes a proper film, he will not let it go.

So much negativity in here! 😛 I'm just excited that the story of our lovely heroine is going to continue for at least a couple more years! I respect the fact that some people might not enjoy the comics and how s8 turned out to be, but you gotta consider that plenty of people also liked it. I personally only disliked a few issues in s8. I really enjoyed Xander and Buffy characterization in it.

I only hope that Angel ends up being more akin to how he was in his show. Because in s8, that certainly lacked.

I'm also hoping for the two gangs to finally meet up at some point during s9 or s10, and Cordy coming back(yes I'm a dreamer). 😉

To conclude... YAY!

Even though I really didn't like the back half of Season 8, Season 9 looks to be really good. And I don't know if this is a bit selfish of me, but I can't let Buffy go either... 🙁

I can't believe they've already confirmed Season 10 after all the backlash of Season 8, but I was actually pretty excited to see this. Maybe this means that Season 9 is pretty solid?

Agree. I want the things I love to end while I want more, not to drag on into eternity.

From the way S8 was done it appears they create an outline of the season but the nuts and bolts are only introduced in and arc by arc basis. So maybe they think the plan for S9 is solid?

As big as the backlash is you will still get angry fans buying the comics i.e. me. As much as I hate the way S8 turned out, and loathe the prospect of more of the same, I simply can't not buy it.

It's a sickness. 😛

Wow. Joss does like his money. 2 comics. And to understand the season you must buy both I'm guessing. And every two weeks, again I guess. Guess we'll see how this plays out, wish they had left the season 10 announcement for a while, would prefer to know that they're focusing on a self contained season instead of a means of getting towards another.
I can handle buying a Buffy comic but I'm so done with Angel that it'll suck to pick up his. At least it bodes well that he'll be away from Buffy, and we won't have to deal with her watching him mope.
Hopes for the season. Surprisingly it's Kennedy related. I think the potential for her to become a great character is certainly there now. Would love to see Satsu again too.

My initial reaction was some what akin to Kean's.

Of course we're all gonna buy it and put a few more bucks in Joss's pockets, but I think there needs to be a MASSIVE reboot, or rethink about the comics in general. The whole 'no budget' thing really too them for a ride and they went really over board with some of the story lines. If they scaled everything back, they could do this and make it good.

But then I think about the fact that, if each season is going to take two years to run, I'mma be 30 when it ends...and that's if it ends there!

Also, the Angel comics. I stopped reading when the 'angels' arrived and animals started turning into people. I wonder what I'm gonna need to be able to get caught up? Hmm...
 
I'm delighted to see the story keep going as long as JW wants to tell it.

(Not that I'll necessarily be delighted with everything about the story...)
 
Here's hoping Xander will get a juicy arc in S10 since he won't get 0ne in S9.
