Buffy Season 9 News From ECCC 2011

I'm gonna go with the hope that if a season 10 is already confirmed it's because there is good reason for that being done so soon. If that's the case then hopefully there is a good story to be told, and it's not just the money-making machine that some are assuming.

I'm gonna get to my thoughts about much of season 8 (good and bad) in the appropriate threads but I'll stand by my overall opinion that at it's heart it was a solid story. One that got lost in the telling somewhat, but a solid story nevertheless. It's basic premise was to tell a tale of how messing with fundamental laws of nature can have unforseen and catastrophic results down the line. It did that, even if some of the story itself left much to be desired. I hope that Joss' plan for a more streamlined season nine (and ten) will help to ensure that his vision for the next chapters won't be so unclear.

They could have showed us a couple of meaningful scenes between the two in Xander's apartment. Or else why move Spike to Xander's apartment at all? They should have just moved him to Buffy's basement from the beginning.

@Sosa Lola - I think it was just a plot necessity. In "Him" Xander just couldn't deal with four crazy girls alone - especially with a superpowered one, like Buffy. Even with Spike's help, it was very hard and we had to suspence our disbelief a couple of times! 😀

(sorry for OT) *hugs*

Re: season 10. I think that this time Joss has a story that will take 50 issues to tell, but he doesn't want to announce that the next season will be 50 issues long - so he broke it into two seasons. (It's like saying that, in s8, issues 1 - 19 were season 8 and issues 20-40 were the next season.)

I don't care how bad it will turn out to be, I'm just glad it goes on and on and on till I'll be 80. That's fine by me.

Moscow, you're spot on about Joss having a long story to tell but feared fans would freak if S9 stayed for four years like S8.

Spike can still help Xander if he was living in the Summers' house from the beginning. I just see no point of having Spike in Xander's apartment at all.

It is 50 issues long though. 25 of Buffy's book and 25 of Angel's. They will be sold every two weeks (which makes it shorter) but it is still a really long story to tell.

I don't want that. I don't think many Xander fans want that. That's boring. I want a rich arc like Willow's and Spike's. I want Xander to screw up and then deal with the consequences.

But why? Don't we have way too many characters who have "gone dark" already? Everyone and their dog are on a redemption path in the Buffyverse. Do you really trust the crack team of writers who came up with the Twangel storyline to write any meaningful storyline for Xander?

To be honest, I'd wish they'd stop bringing the vampires into Buffy's story. It really feels like fan service at this point and tends to bring the story down.

At this point? It's been fan service ever since Angel's completely inexplicable return from Acathla's realm.

In fairness, Xander was the finest example of a man in S8. He was the best friend, the best boyfriend, and generally the best human being throughout the entire run. I don't think he could have been given a more generous treatment by the writers.

Of course he could. For starters they could (or rather should) have scrapped the entire story about Dracula.

It was mostly from Buffy's POV and was treated as a plot device to give Buffy yet more pain.

Then again, that's true for 90% of all storylines since Restless.

I love BtVS and the fandom, but I kinda wish they'd end it already. Give our beloved characters some closure and resolution.

I'm excited for season 10. Season 9 is supposedly going to deal with less magic and take the show back to the roots, so that should be good. And they can begin foreshadowing events in season 10 (which Joss is so great at).

And since i'm such a hater of Dawn hopefully Joss will decide to kill her...
