Did anyone else feel uncomfortable when Buffy launched herself at RJ in the episode "Him"? Sleeping with the guy that your teenage little sister has a crush on... yuck? I know I know, it was the spell. But it was still a little cougar-y feeling.

Buffy the Cougar!! LOL!!!!
I think I read somewhere that the guy that played RJ is actually like 2 years older than SMG in real life, which makes it a little less creepy to watch...except that he is then like 10 years older than Michelle, which makes the Dawn/ RJ scenes weird.

LOL Well knowing that definitely puts a different spin on it. 😉

RJ was born in 1975, Buffy in 1977. That makes it better. 😛

BTW, that's one of those scenes where I hit "mute" and tell my son to close his eyes.

RJ was supposed to be 17/18 and Buffy at that point was 21? Ehhh, most states wouldn't even consider that statutory rape. But as a 21 y/o girl, the thought of getting it on with a 17 year old guy gives me the creeps.

No, but a member of he school staff having sexual relations with a student, regardless of age, is considered inappropriate, and would have gotten Buffy fired on the spot, spell or no spell, if it had been found out.

You know, that comment gave me pause... My first love was 3 years younger than me, and we dated when I was 19 and he was 16. At the time I had so many people telling me I was wrong to date him, because he was too young for me. I didn't think that way then, but looking back now, at 29, I realize that we were in two different phases of our lives and he was too young for me. In your early 20's, you're trying to discover yourself and what kind of life you want for yourself as an adult. In your teens, you're still having fun and goofing off; there's a huge maturity gap even if there's not that much difference in the numbers.
I know Buffy wasn't trying to have a relationship, though; she was just looking for a nice piece of tail. LMFAO

I don't know. I had a serious crush on one of my friends who was 3 years younger than me when I was 19. We never dated but we were both going to college since he went early. We never dated but my crush never felt wrong.
lol well maybe because the guy didn't look too young no not as much but when you think about it in general without the spell part it seems a very off.

And Michelle was born in 1985! So, now when I watch it, I'm sure I'm going to be way more creeped out at RJ/Dawn than Buffy/RJ!! That's got to be awkward as a actor to play a guy 10 years younger than you are with girls that are actually that much younger.

Well, I always think of cougars as being in their 40s at least, and Buffy was only like 24 then.

Haha, yea! I totally didn't mean that to be as close minded as it sounds in retrospect! I think of the 17y/o's I know now and it would be really weird, not to say there are not 17y/o and 21y/o who could work together as a good couple.

And yea, Buffy here wasn't in love with him as more she was in lust with him lol

i get what you're saying here, and i think in some cases it's true, but i really think it depends on the people. for example, my first real love was 21 and i was 16. it worked for almost 3 years and we didn't have those kinds of problems. just depends i guess.

I guess I never really thought about it like that. If anything I just thought it was funnier because of the age difference since it was all the spell. So yes, it was 'wrong' but it wasn't Buffy's real will or interest.. in fact Buffy as a person is quite the anti-cougar (with the exception of Scott and Riley her boyfriends have been well into their 100s 😉) so I just found it hilarious to see her so twisted about by a spell cause I could imagine how horrified she'd be afterwards ("What was I thinking!?")

Cougar? Absolutely not. To me. But I really don't like that scene. Of course that goes for most of the episode...

Which is not a popular opinion. 😀

In some states...dating a student (regardless of their age) is illegal. Which is kind of nuts. Recently a 20 something year old teacher was arrested for sleeping with an 18 year old student. But yeah, I always found that scene somewhat disturbing haha.

I absolutely hate that scene because it's the only scene I can think of where Buffy (and who knows how many girls) were actually raped by the antagonist using magical methods. Buffy had been in bad situations before (Xander in the hyena episode, the fish boys in "Go Fish" etc) but they always were stopped in time. I guess because Buffy was supposed to be older than him the writers thought her being taken sexually advantage of would be okay? I hate that episode and how far it went. Yes, I don't like seeing counselor Buffy taking advantage of a pupil, but he was actually taking advantage of her and I do think RJ knew that there was something special about the jacket. Anyway, except for much needed comedy from Anya, I hate the episode and usually skip over it.
