Buffy vs River Tam

Please don't kill Faith off! I mean, River's okay and all but I like my kick-ass brunette's to have a Boston accent. 🙂

As for the whole Buffy vs. River thing- my thinking is this: could River win against the opponents that Buffy one against? Maybe the nightly vampires sure, but anything/anyone else? Doubtful.

Technique matters but so does staying power. Buffy can fight harder for longer, take more than River can dish out and can almost certainly break anything of River's when she connects with a blow.

The whole idea of league sports is that on a given day, any team can beat any other team. If team A always beats team B and team B always beats team C, it does not necessarily follow that team A can always beat team C. With Buffy and River Tam, it would be a good fight but the outcome is far from predetermined.

I also feel like Buffy's strenght is not such a sure fire way to say that she'll be the winner because it's never a constant. She is stronger undoubtedly. But sometimes she's strong enough to throw around a God's hammer like it's nothing and other days she can just barely fight off your average vampire... so Buffy's strenght depends on her feelings and other inconsistencies we may not be aware of. Meaning that Buffy's super strenght is something of a wild-card in this debate. It's not the end all argument because, like Spike says in "Fool for Love", if she just has one bad day... bam, someone else might just have a very good day...

Without saying that she's going to be Trollhammer strong all the time it's not certain her strenght won't be over-come somehow by a slicker or smoother adversary.

River is pretty agile. I've never seen Buffy make moves like that...
Sure you did. You just dont remember because they were secondary. You saw Buffy jump over a 10+ foot gate as if it were nothing. Well.. you didnt actually SEE it, per se, as they didnt have the money to show it. There were numerous instances of her agility.

I didn't say Buffy wasn't agile. I'm just saying that River is just as agile.

uh huh.. ;)
Buffy is a sword. River is a club. Just depends on how you opt to kill the other as to which tool you use.

More like, Buffy is a rapier and River is a saber. The rapier is generally faster, and much better for thrusting, but the saber has a better cutting edge and a balance that makes it ideal for slashing. How the fight progresses, combined with literally dozens of unexpected, therefore unprepared for, circumstances, could be as important a factor as the two differing fighting styles. And, once more, there are no guarantees in an actual fight, just a truckload of variables, any one of which could be the deciding factor as to which girl limps away the winner.

I never saw Buffy being held in front of someone and kicking them in the back of the head. Or flat up on the ceiling holding herself up with one hand on a bit of metal. And the fact that she can see faster than her opponent can move is a real help too.

For anyone interested, here is an example of rapier vs saber (what the contestants are wearing is protective clothing, by the way, not some sort of costume) It's basically a contest between the point vs the cutting edge, and note the "unexpected" element that could have cost the rapierman his life in an actual fight.

Quite a close call, Buffy would win, River would say something cryptic, Buffy would pun about it.
