Buffyverse stuff in non-Buffyverse places

Reading a book published in 1960, "The Earth Giant," by Edison Marshall, I came across this line:

"Night deepened in those moments...(nothing) could stop the moon from shining...her EFFULGENCE grew...and brought out sharply all of the features of the nearby landscape."

That's the first time I've ever heard that word used outside of "Buffy" or "Angel."

In Will & Grace they mention Buffy a few times. Grace is reading a magazine and the pages are stuck together so she thinks SMG was in a prisoner of war camp, Will yells at her and says "You thought Buffy was in a prisoner of war camp!", another is when Jack is hitting on some guy and when he says that he works in tv, jack replies "Oh my god I love tv, Buffy is my life! Im so into Willow being a lesbian right now! did you have anything to do with that?". I also have a vague memory of an episode of Daria when her sister says something like "Now we can be home in time for Buffy!."

Funny thing happened today, really had to post it here 😀

So at my place of education we have a thing called "co-op", which is basically students getting hired by local businesses to work-- only rather than getting paid in cash, you can earn credits towards your diploma. It's pretty snazzy, but requires two weeks of safety training and job interview training and stuff, which I'm almost done now.

ANYWAY, today we were looking at interview skills and my instructor pulled out a cheesey instructional video from the 80s or 90s about interview skills. And the VERY FIRST character that pops up is a 17 year old girl named Marcy, played by none other than Clare Kramer!!! As in Glory!!! I couldn't believe it, first thing in the morning in a co-op class in "the middle of nowhere" town, Canada and here she is! All I could think through the entire video was "GLORY IS BEN-- BEN IS GLORY-- GLORY IS LEARNING ABOUT JOB INTERVIEW SKILLS!!!!" *laughs* I was so floored, all morning I was thinking "I have to tell the BBers, they'll never believe it!".

Anyway, that's my story. I can't find any caps of the video as of yet, but if I find any I'll be sure to put one up. I thought it was pretty neat, anyway 🙂

PS: And as a sidenote, I was looking for a screencap and found a new promo shot of Clare K. I almost didn't recognize her at first!

no wonder the tv series borrowed its song! hehe! :P
i met a person named Anya Jenkins today!!!!! I asked if her middle name happened to be Christina Emmanuella... sadly it was just Marie

I just found ANOTHER Buffy in-joke in the same PC game (Sacred) I mentioned above!

There are lots of tombstones in that game, most of them with stupid puns or scifi injokes on them. And one of them bears the epitaph "B.A.S. - she saved the world a lot".

So that's why the Scoobies could keep Buffy's death over the S5/6 summer secret. They buried her far, far out of the way - on the Pirate Isles of Ancaria! :lmao:

awesome find :)
This may sound a bit crap compared to all the others on here, but i was watching The Grudge again on ITV2 yesterday and right at the end when SMG is dressed in the long gown thing (You know... The ones they where in hospitals and stuff), it looks pretty much exactly like the same one she wore in the episode where she is in the Menatl Institute... (sorry... memory fails me on the name of the episode).

I thought was pretty much Buffy in a non-Buffy place... Obv it had SMG in it which made it kind of easy to link with Buffy, but either way all i could think about was that episode.

Oh, and theres a band called HIM, which stand for His Infernal Majesty... But it pretty much always reminds me of the Buffy episode with the same name.

In my Media Studies class today we were looking through a book, can't remember the name though, and it was telling us about different font types for different genres and on the horror section it had an advert for Buffy DVD's and videos as one of the examples.

Oh, and I was watching Cool Money earlier and James Marsters was playing the main character. Don't ask me what happens in it though, I was too busy watching James. 😉

In the show 'Dirt' episode 11 of season1, one photographer talks about his cousin 'catching Buffy the vampire Slayer sunbathing'. Of course he meant Sarah Michelle Gellar, it was nice though how they put it.

I got some DVD's for christmas and in one of the booklets advertising other box set's it said next to teh buffy boxset

Buffy the vampire slayer
season 1-9!

Made me chuckle becuase none of my family got what was wrong when i showed it them!

well I dont know if this counts but when some of my friends really pisses me off, I get all mean and the way I say things to insult the person is a bit scary, a friend of mine, also a Buffy fan then always tells me to "stop pulling an angelus" on them , the first time he said that I was like totally stunned.

Today in my Irish Cultural Spaces lecture my lecturer mentioned how Joss Whedon was reiventing the way we consume media with Dr. Horrible (cuz it was a was made for the internet).

That was the absolute last thing I expected to hear in that class...or any class I take to be honest lol

It made me grin like a crazy fool though. See>>>>>😀

In school it said 'Once more with feeling' on the board today. I started giggling, and I think people thought I was totally retarded. 😀

Also; in my old drama classroom, there were Buffy character names all over the walls. I thought it was just coincidental, then I found out my drama teacher happens to like Buffy...The things you learn. 😉

Buffy references in other places than the Buffyverse

I got the Gilmore Girls quote " It's 11 o'clock at night! Who are you planning on hooking up with? Spike and Drusilla?", made by Rory, for the umpteenth time in the random quote thingy today, and it got me wondering for a bit. Are there anymore shows or films or whatever where they refer to Buffy or Buffy related stuff?

I have one, which might or might not be a reference. In the Mighty Book of Boosh (and if I remember correctly, also during the live show) Rich Fulcher refers to dingoes as 'baby eaters'. It could be a reference, right? But then again, in all fairness, 'the dingoes got my baby!' was, I quote,

This exclamation (and its variant, "The dingo ate my baby!") became something of a pop culture catch-phrase for a short time in the 1990s, as evidenced by its appearance in the two most popular television shows of the decade, Seinfeld and The Simpsons. Audiences found it amusing for several reasons: the phrase is hilariously incongruous in almost all situations, the word "dingo" is kind of funny in and of itself, and the line is invariably delivered in an atrocious attempt at an Australian accent. Even as they laughed, many American viewers failed to realize that the phrase is a reference to the sensationalized Australian murder trial in which defendant Lindy Chamberlain claimed that her infant daughter had been mutilated and eaten by a wild dingo.

Anyway, I like to think of it as a reference to Dingoes ate my Baby.

Have you got any more references to Buffy in not Buffyverse places?

Buffy refrences is just another reason why everyone should love The Mighty Boosh
In Xena, Warrior Princess they made a pretty funny Buffy reference; it was in the episode "The Play's the thing". Gabrielle was putting up this theater play and the critics in the audience were bored to death that's when one of the critics said:

"Critic: There's the opening of Buffus the Bacchae Slayer across the street."

😀
