Alright, let's talk Cabin in the Woods. I was left pretty unsatisfied by that ending. The whole movie was very typically Joss, and honestly I'm not sure I liked that.

Having the clown be the one that survives...this seemed to be more of a "message" movie than a good story.
 
Well, I don't know that anyone survived. I interpreted the message of the movie as the government or society at large controls everything we do with a sort of hidden hand, and that we should rise up and fight that. I'm not saying I really believe that (I tend to put more stock in free will), but I thought it was conveyed more subtly than some of the other stuff Joss has done. I've read some other thoughts that the sacrifices were a thinly-disguised metaphor for the military fighting wars, and if that is indeed the metaphor, I flatly disagree with it, and that, quite frankly, is insulting.

But again, I didn't see that. I mean, it didn't insult the intelligence of the viewer, as can sometimes happen when a writer or director gets overly concerned with getting his or her message across.

Actually, I really liked Cabin in the Woods. I thought it was well acted, it was funny (which is an element I find horror movies need to have), and I just had fun watching it. If the message is indeed what I thought it to be, then I liked it. The notion of thinking for yourself as an individual and not letting others define you is a good one, I think.

What did you mean by "having the clown survive"? I didn't really understand that.
 
I thought it was interesting that this all seemed like a test or a game almost. Killing people off (which is something Joss likes to do.) And how the people were placing bets and etc.
 
I interpreted the message like this.... "if I am going out, might as well take the whole world with me" 😀
 
I like a film with a good message, so no complaints from me, other than the absolutely unnecessary appearance of Sigourney Weaver... twasn't needed!

I actually really enjoyed this movie!

The first time around when I saw it in theatres, by the time it ended I was like... It's over? That's it? Everyone dies?

But then afterwards when I realized the message the movie was telling, and how the movie broke all the horror movie stereotypes (which is something Joss seems to love to do) I respected it a lot more. And heck, Joss is known for killing off characters, and this time around he probably felt, "Screw it, the whole world is going down." 😀
 
I really liked the movie & the humor, a bit disappointed that it was the geek that didn't die & not the blonde whore, cause I know Joss hated that .. & was also disappointed that when Sigourny Wiever showed up she didn't play herself, it would've been so funny if the guy from Dollhouse went "Sigourny Wiever, WTF are you doing here?", cheesy but still funny lol
 
I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. I am not a fan ofmodern horror, so the fact that it thumbed its nose at 21st century gore-fests made me happy. I am a fan of Joss' humour and his writing style (duh) and it was certainly in evidence here.

As for the message of the movie; corporations, governments and things we know nothing about are all out to screw us and there's very little we can do about it, because it's all dark and mysterious and beyond our ken. Maybe he wasn't invited to become a member of the Masons and is still bearing a grudge or something 🙂
 
I don't know. Fran Kranz and Bradley Whitford helped a lot since I like them both. I'm not a horror fan to begin with but there's some I've enjoyed. For now I'm not a fan (not a hater either). Maybe it'll change in the future. Maybe I need to concentrate on the message more the next time around.

Have you watched the special features? Joss say something along the lines of "I have a reputation of killing off characters. Now I do the ultimate and kill everyone in the world."
 
Personally I loved that the stoner made it to the end, but only because 1) it was topher 🙂 & 2) that coffee mug thing/bong was awesomely awesome. I'm not a stoner, its not my thing, but I can appreciate a piece of awesomeness when I see one 🙂

I think the movie was okay. The ending was very weird though.
When Sigourney Weaver (yay! 🙂) suddenly shows up and tells them about those hell gods or whatever, I thought she was lying. I thought that the whole thing was some kind of weird experiment or something, but suddenly, those hell gods were real and actually destroyed the world 😕

But apart from that, the movie was really interesting. Compared to most of today's horror movies, this is a really cool and original idea, in my opinion. It builds up like a really stereotyped new horror movie, with all of the typical characters, like the stoner, the whore, the virgin and all that. But first of all, they did a good job in making those characters a little bit more than your everyday horror character that gets chopped to pieces and you don't give a damn. The second thing is that those office guys actually needed these certain types of people so they could do whatever they were doing.
 
I guess I didn't find it all that original, what with it playing off the Scream idea that all horror films have a formula. I also don't think the story in and of itself it very well done - it's not really a horror film to me I guess.

I liked it. Never felt that I knew which way the movie would go and that's not very common.
Always fun with a movie that you're actually not sure how it will end.

Was also a very nice surprise that Bradley Whitford was in the move. He's just brilliant.
Even though he just did his "standard" character that we have seen him do before I can't help loving it.

I still haven't freakin seen it yet & I'm going to soon so hopefully I'll like it. I've heard people say they liked it & heard some hated it so we'll see...
 
I thought it was fairly entertaining, but I wasn't overly impressed by it. For starters, I didn't think the concept was all that original or particularly unique to the horror genre; I found the use of Tom Lenk and Amy Ackler distracting, and most of it was predictable. I didn't find any of the "big plot twists" surprising. Still, I was able to have fun watching it.

Chris Hemsworth is always a plus. (yes, I can be shallow)
