So being a mother of two has slowed me down...

I was never a slayer (hello reality), but I used to engage in some risky behavior. That was until I got it into my head to reproduce. That changed everyhting. Suddenly life has more meaning. I have a reason to live. I must care for my groopies. Suddenly, walking through the bad part of town scares me, whereas before; it never crossed my mind to be worried about my personal safety. I always, always buckle my seatbelt. I think twice about engaging in some good ol fashioned sky-diving. All for my children, because life has changed. I am suddenly responsible for the well being and loving care for the two sweet souls that depend on me.

So what if I was a slayer...

Would it be ok for me to be responsible for the life and death struggle of humanity as well as a child? To put my life on the line for the greater good? Or should I try to carefully preserve my life so I can raise a happy well adjusted child?

Can a Super hero be a super mom?

Well, Nicki Wood tried....(principal Wood's mom)
She got killed, and Wood ended up with a chip on his shoulder and a vendetta. Anyhow, I think it would be unfair to a child if his or her mother were a slayer, because, ultimately, it would feel as if the mother was choosing something else 'the mission' over her children. However, after season 7, there are many slayers...so maybe it would be easier to have a couple of kids and not get yourself killed.

Well lets look at other dangerous jobs... say a cop, or fireman/woman. These people have a higher purpose/mission in life, and they have kids all the time.

Nikki Woods is who I was thinking of when I wrote this post, and I agree with rogue. I don't think Wood ended up very well adjusted (see lies my parents told me). So what does this mean on a grander scale? The feminist subtext of BTVS was sumwhat undermined by the Nikki Woods/mother subplot. Remember also Joss was raised by a single woman whom he clearly idolises. hmmmm

Well, some would view it as keeping the world safe for their children.

Well, if you're mother was murder, I think you'd like some revenge on the murderer... wouldn't you?
I mean, it took Wood years, but he finally found out who the 'monster' was that killed his mother.

Hmmm... that's a really good topic...
Obviously, losing his / her mother is the worse thing that could happen to a child... but in the meantime, I don't think any mother would want to raise their children in a world they think is unfair.
So let's say... if there was to be a dictator in a certain country, and that the mother could at some point do something to help freeing the country (which would lead to her children not being brainwashed, taken for the army or such), then she would probably do it... because you don't want your kids to be taken from you by an ultra power...
but then... if the mother was to die and nothing was to change after her death then it's kinda pointless cause her children are gonna be taken away anyway.. and they won't have their mother to give them the morals and ideals she believed in...

gah it's a tough one... I've just been writing along with what I was thinking so it doesnt lead anywhere... but yeah... tough one

I'm not saying it can't or shouldn't be done, in the case of police, firefighters, etc. But being a slayer is different, I think. Even if the child understood 'I'm doing this to make the world a better place for YOU', the child could still end up feeling betrayed, like Principal Wood did. I think alot of his anger towards his mother's killer is actually anger directed at his mother for dying (transference, if we wanna get all psyhco babble). Of course, I would be damned angry if someone did that to my mom...esp. if she was an innocent-but Nikki Woods was a slayer....so not an innocent-she was part of the eternal struggle, and part of a legacy-the question is, should he be angry with her, because she WAS the chosen one...did she even HAVE a choice? There was no other slayer, and couldn't be until she died, so she couldn't just choose to walk away from her duty, as Robin clearly thought she should have done....
Anyhow, I think it could be done, but it would be hard-because the choices a slayer has to make often leave her feeling alone and seperated, and she might have to make choices that benefit the greater good over the good of her loved ones-imagine how much harder that would be if she had a child to think about....

The thought I keep returning to is that Nikki Knew who she was (didn't she?) and what her responsibilities were when she had Wood, and yet she still chose to raise her son while fulfilling her slayer duties. Ok so I am about to have an opiniony moment here y'all...

I think it was very very selfish of her to have a child.

I understand that it must be very hard to be the chosen one. It is the road WAY less traveled. I can see Buffys desire to lead a "normal" life, and as dear Dzhugashvili stated in another post, perhaps Wood gave her hope that perhaps she could. And yet, final eppy, "everyones who could be a slayer is a slayer" aside, It would just be wrong. Now I admit I have rather conservative beliefs about mothering (although I am a feminist), but a moms first priority is her children, And a slayers first priority is ridding the world of the Big Bad. The two just don't jive.

BUT would give the Slayer something else to focas on rather than just the demons that she fights, to keep reminding herself she has a life too and that she is human.remember in charmed the trio had their mum who was a wicca too, and she balanced out her life quite well.(untill her death that is)

I haven't seen enough Charmed to comment intelligently on this....don't the girls on Charmed also have kids (I remember that one of them was pregnant on the show....Am I remembering wrong?)? Sorry, I'm charmed defficient!
