Moonset- how do you know that they "ignored" that fact?

I'm with patriot1123 on this one. While I think in my gut that she is guilty, I wasn't in the courtroom listening to every bit of evidence presented every single day. We don't know what was going through the jury's mind but I'm sure we soon will as soon as the interviews start.

Children die every day, some at the hands of those who are supposed to be caring for them. It's terrible. But what makes this case different? Because she's a pretty white girl who has a young, pretty white mother? I guarantee that if this was a Hispanic or black child, we wouldn't have this kind of coverage. Is this case more important because Nancy Grace deems it so? (God, I can't stand that woman!)

What bugs me is how obsessed some of my FB friends are about this. 10 years ago I became obsessed with that woman in Texas who killed her 5 kids then I realized that it was not good for my mental health as I was dealing with post-partum depression. I have 3 children to parent. Aren't they better off with me focusing on them than focusing on a media-induced frenzy I can do nothing about?

I guess one good thing coming out is a petition I saw to criminalize not reporting a missing child. The petition wanted federal charges for that but I don't know how that will hold up. Any opinions on that?

I agree. I am also tired of the fb coverage.

Unfortunately, I totally agree with this.

I think that's a solution in search of a problem. I believe this case is an outlier and that it's rare for missing children not to be reported, even by the parents who were actually responsible for them being missing. Even if only because there are other family members, friends, associates, neighbors, etc., who are bound to notice that the child is gone. I also don't think there is a basis for a federal law on it - it would have to be governed by state law.

That's what I was thinking too; it would have to be state law.
It's been awhile since i been here and on my returnI noticed this. Wow this girl is getting recongized everywhere even on Buffy-Boards.
Here are my thoughts on the baby killer!
SHE MURDERED HER DAUGHTER AND IS GETTING AWAY WITH IT!
Me and my family have followed this case from the beginning and there was never a moment I didn't think the girl was guilty. I mean look she took a month to report her daughter missing, WTF! Then she's out partying lalala like its nothing. As a mother myself she sickens me.
The only reason she is getting off is because of her parents, and I see how some parents would do anything to protect their kids. So i see there parents view, but I don't really agree. Like my mother told me if i did thagt to my child, her grandchild she'll see me on the weekends but my as* will be behind bars, and i agree with that.

I just cain't believe this, I am disappointed in our justice sytem. Bitch gets to walk free, and her little daughter, she murdered, gets no justice 🙁

Ok I am done ranting this case was just, wow, it pisses me off.

I definitely feel certain she was guilty. It is my understanding from what was said afterwards that they prosecution failed to prove motive, and it was a lack of this coupled with reasonable doubt that let the jury to find her not guilty.

I think the prosecutor really should have tried to find something for motive. It was obvious that she could have just dumped her daughter with her parents if she wanted to have a party life, so the jury was unable to see why she would have killed her when she could have been rid of her by other means.

I don't exactly how one comes to a place of sociopathy (if that's the right one i'm thinking of) where they care only about what they want and are virtually, if not completely, incapable of genuine concern for others.

What makes me even more sick is the culture we have that will allow her to profit from her infamy. If everyone collectively refused to watch any interviews with her, refuse to buy any books or magazines which will profit her, that would really help quell the culture of people like this profiting from terrible things.

Also, i really hope this "woman" gets fixed and does not reproduce again.

VisionGirl I feel it was ignored because ultimately Casey is walking free next week. I know there are much more legalities and legal mumbo jumbo of the situation, but thats just my opinion. I don't think it's fair. Yeah I know life doesn't work that way but Its just my opinion. I feel like of any of the charges, she should have been prosecuted on something regarding that, but they didn't use that against her. I suppose the child abuse charge could have been, but if she never regularly abused her child (which I don't think she did), it wouldn't exactly stick.

I'm not a lawyer so I am really not looking at it from that POV. Just a matter of my gut and personal opinion.

I guess because its kind of a personal issue for me why I feel so angry towards the situation. My Grandma and mother closely followed this case since it began and now my mom is in prison for grand theft larceny. I am not on contact terms with her for a few years now, nor do I agree at all with what she's done, but my mom will have gotten an overall sentencing of 6 years (time served didn't count but one year for her - unlike Casey's) and this woman is getting out of prison next week like I mentioned above (And yes I'm aware that she has spent time but like I mentioned, my mom's didn't even count the full time). I know it happens everyday, but its just further proof that there is flaws in our justice system.

I do want to say that I agree with the above poster that while I fully believe she got away with murder - It is better to release a guilty woman than convict an innocent one, so I HOPE she didn't do it. But I can't even realistically think about that with a straight face because of all the evidence put before me (granted like said by someone else, I wasn't in court with every piece of evidence) I don't believe it for a second. I am someone that is strongly against the death penalty (watch The Life of David Gale) but I still think that she deserved more time -- at the very least all of her time served not being counted.

But it's very possible that the jury did not ignore this issue- it's possible that they looked at it and were unable to convict her on child abuse simply because she didn't report her missing. I don't know what the laws of Florida are, I don't know what constitutes the definition of child abuse under Florida law. But that's the issue for me: I have not followed this case closely, I don't know what all the evidence is, I have no interest in following it. The am assuming that the lawyers on both sides, the jury, the judge, and the families know a heck of a lot more about it than I do. I'm not saying that she didn't do it. There's just no way for me to make that judgement any better than those sitting in that courtroom did.

I think it's important to point out that you certainly don't need to be a lawyer to have a valid opinion on this situation.

And I'm sorry about your mother, and understand why that makes you bitter. It's very unfair that she got 6 years while Casey (IMO) will get away with murder.

I hope I'm not being tediously repetitive here 🙂 but it's important to point out that the jury didn't decide that she didn't do it. They decided that it wasn't proven that she did.

It's a lose-lose situation all around.

If she's guilty (which I believe she is) she is walking free and can now give birth to other children to abuse and murder.

If she's innocent her life is ruined. People who look at her will treat her like a murderer and she will never have a normal life. She may get rich off of book deals but she will always be viewed as the scum of society.

Agree!! Obsessing on a murder is crazy!! One of the reasons why I gave up television 8+ years ago was so our family would not watch the news, which is the most violent show in the world.

There are so many wonderful things in life to obsess on that are so much better. Some have red hair. I wrote a poem about my healthy obsession: 🙂

Willow, Willow, stop stealing my pillow
I like your anklet, stop stealing the blanket
Sorry about Tara
And Andrew stealing your mascara.
I like you Willow.

Ok, to get back to serious, the news can be deadly for your health. How many mothers killed their children during the past 3 years? You don't hear crazy Nancy Grace going on and on and on and on about all the other deaths.

The Media is evil. It didn't use to be. It used to be about Journalism.... now its about ratings. The Media is evil.

I try to not even watch the news anymore, except weather and sports. It is evil!

Exactly I know they can't do the death penalty but that woman was out PARTYING for 30 days! Child alive or not that is still child abuse to me. I don't call my mom and check in with her she worries and I am nineteen not two. The way she looked with that smug look on her face when she was first arrested showed me what that lady was capable of and then to lie on her father and brother.

After everything she has put her family through..sister, daughter or mother I wouldn't address her.

I agree with Nancy Grace saying she is basically being rewarded for being smart enough to cover her tracks for the most part.

Trust me I understand your rant it is infuriating especially when you hear people talking about just how bad she is with her partying ways and such personally and you think of this child and how sad it was that she was her mother.

I haven't heard about this case until just now. What happened to that little girl is absolutely horrible. 🙁
