So recently a thread was posted which had some interesting facts about BtVS. One of them was that SMG really doesn't like cemeteries. What is your opinion on them?
Do they creep you out? Do you think it's pointless to visit a deceased friend's/relative's grave? Or do you feel like a cemetery is a peaceful place where you can go to just reflect on some things. Would you rather go alone, or with a group of people?

I don't go and visit any graves, basically because pretty much everyone I know who has died has been cremated (morbid much... 😛 )

I think in general cemetaries are beautiful and peaceful, and generally so interesting. Whenever I go on holiday I love looking around local churches and graveyards, it gives you a sense of history in a way that nothing else could.

Saying that, I visited the WW2 graveyards for the English and American, French and German soldiers in Normandy, France, and that was one of the most powerful, upsetting places I've been.

But you didnt visit the graves of Scottish, Welsh or NI? Wow. Ok.
I don't mind them. I don't think I'd ever visit anyone there though, that's not my way of going about the whole death thing. Too direct for me and I don't think there's much point as I don't believe in life after death anyway.

Growing up though my friends and I used to play manhunt in the woods of a cemetery near me. Was scary at night as the tombstones look really creepy- made it more entertaining though (obviously we didn't go near the graves themselves, that would be disrespectful). In daylight though it's quite a nice place, very peaceful.

I used to dislike graveyards. i think my brother somehow convinced me that

lived in the graveyard in my village 🙁 (Having a brother 15 years older than you sucks)

I've only visited my nan's grave once in 2 and a half years. it doesn't comfort me at all to go to my grandparents grave, and I doubt that they're aware that I don't.

Cemeteries are really peaceful. I have been known to take my dog/dogs walking through the paths of the cemetery.

But I always have to have someone with me. lol. Totally can't go by myself, because then it's creepy.

What I'm going to say is gonna make everybody believe I'm a Insan-o Lady.
But I do like to go there at nighttime (relax, I only did this a few times, it's not on a regular basis). At first, it's the most terrifying thing ever. But once you settle there, you start to feel the most peaceful feeling in the world. There is no fear. Just calmness. I don't know, maybe it's the feeling of death that is so calming....? It's very soreal.

Hmm. It creeps me out to be in them at night, but otherwise I don't think they're creepy. I don't like going in them if I have no one to visit though because I feel like I'm intruding on other people's time with their loved ones. I do visit my Grandad and Uncle sometimes though. I like to talk to them somewhere I feel there's some kind of connection, even if there's nothing actually going on after death, it helps me anyway. I wouldn't go to one for any other reason than visiting someone.

I think cemeteries are peaceful. I recently changed my mind about being cremated and i now want to be buried. Sorry, that is a rather morbid thing to say.

Cemeteries are beautiful and very peaceful. I used to go walk in the cemetery next to my friend's place when we were in high school and I've never been scared.

Funeral homes scare me to death, though. I've been only once and it was an open casket ceremony and I kept thinking the guy would sit in his casket and look at us with vamp face (yes, BtVS did traumatized me in a way...)

Cemeteries have never bothered me. I think they are a good place to go, be peaceful, and visit your loved ones if you choose. Some people visit them often for closure. When I visit them, I like to say prayers for the deceased. My family usually has flowers on our relative's graves through the spring/summer.

I have only been in one when I was younger and it was for a school field trip. (Kind of weird I guess.) But I would love to walk through one at night just for the experience.

I love cemeteries. I don't find them creepy at all. "She-who-hangs-out-a-lot-in-cemeteries" yep, that's me. My grandma and my cousin are buried at a really nice one in San Diego, near a pond. We used to visit my grandma all the time when I was younger. I really loved to go. I apparently once whispered, "I love you too grandma." when we went to visit, when I was about 5, a few months after she died. Creeped out the whole family 😉.

Ugh, I can't decide! I want a tomb stone but I don't like the idea of being in the ground. I want my family to spread my ashes across...the world. Yeah, that was slightly more morbid than what you said. Heh...heh.

I want to be buried without a casket. I'd like my nutrients to actually become useful and contribute to life on Earth. I want to decompose naturally, in a way that provides ecological benefits.

I'd like that. I heard of this thing once where you get buried in a biodegradable container and they plant a tree on top of you instead of a grave stone. I quite like that idea because I think you'll decompose naturally but it's also nice to have a tree start it's life where you left off.

sounds like a good idea to me! :D
I don't mind cemetaries, I think they're kind of tragically beautiful in a way, it's nice to walk through them, remembering your own mortality and remembering those who are there. I usually go with my foster-sister to visit the grave of our brother but we'll linger there some time.

In short, I'm down with cemetaries... as long as it's not a pet cemetary 😉

pet cemetary :(
With my precedent job i have a lot worked in cemetaries.
I was to be présent during the digging, during the funerals and during The close of the grave.
i must to be présent during the exhumations.
I have a différent vision.
So, i must say that cemetaries are quiet and must be respected.
It's a place to collect itself.

Death=sadness

They gross me out, but I'm not scared of them. I'm not a big fan of visiting them, personally.
When I was younger, we'd always pass a graveyard on our way to soccer practice. When we did, every kid in the car (we carpooled a lot) would hold their breath until we had passed it. It's an old superstiton, I think. Does/did anyone else do anything like that?

No, but at the risk of sounding a bit morbid me and my sister invented a car game where everytime we passed a cemetary the first one who saw it "got" all the people in it. You won if you had the most....

Come to think of it, it does sound a bit weird, but we did go on lenghty road trips a lot so I guess we were just really bored. (Also cemetaries are usually around a church, and I love old stone churches... they're so pretty, so that was probably part of the appeal)

Oh, I've done stranger things with my sister, so don't worry. And yes, churches can be really pretty. We just saw the National Cathedral this winter - it was very pretty.
I actually enjoy cemeteries - while there is a bit of a creep factor - they are beautiful peaceful parks most of the time. My father used to take the whole family to cemeteries on days like Memorial Day just to wander around and pay respect to the deceased, check out cool grave stones, etc. They are also very cool places to learn about an areas history and some cemeteries are full of famous dead peeps which can be cool to see. As a teen we would go to the old cemetery in my town to hide from the parentals.
Now, this is MY experience. I took a boyfriend with me to check out a cemetery I'd never been too. I was driving and I drove my car through the gates and he completely lost his sh-t. "what are you doing!?"
"I thought we could check out this cemetery"
"why! why! I don't want to be here! why would anyone want to hang out in a cemetery"
It went back and forth with us both being incredulous and he basically yelled until the car was out of the park. So I think its a mixture of your life experience, your view of death and your culture that may play into how you feel about a cemetery. They were normal places to visit in my family but to others that just seems plain crazy.

That sounds cool - your loved-ones could plant a tree there and your vessel would nourish the tree and you'd be a part of this beautiful natural thing that others could visit and enjoy instead of a tombstone - cool idea.
I don't know what I want my peeps to do with my body - I can't separate the alive sensation of being buried or burned from how I will (or won't) feel when I've moved on.

They can turn you into a diamond too - I always thought that was pretty neat. They take your ashes and make you into jewelry for one of your loved ones to enjoy.

Whoa! See, some people enjoy them while others are just freaked out! I think it would be fun to go visit a cemetery with a girlfriend or something:)
