Characters bursting into tears

I've noticed over the years that, not just on Buffy, but with all of her roles, Sarah seems much more comfortable with scenes where she cries than with scenes where she should be laughing. Even in funny scenes, she is almost always the "straight man" rather than the one who delivers the punch line.

None of the others seem to have that problem. David, in all of the bloopers and out takes that I have seen, is an absolute clown, and everyone else seems to have their funny moments, gags, or just laughs at their or someone else's flubbed lines. Maybe Sarah just doesn't consider that as professional behavior, or maybe it just never was captured and preserved on tape.

When you see her interviews she isn't much of a joker either. She is much more with the sarcastic quips than anything else.

Anyhow, Sarah seems to do far more crying than anyone else in the Buffyverse.

In fairness, that makes sense. She is the central character, it's about her life and she is our lens. It wouldn't really make sense for anyone else to carry the real emotional weight. Of course the Scoobies have taken their hits, but ultimately, it's Buffy who takes the hurt.

I can't add much to what others have put as far as tear-jerking moments go, but I'm racking my brains and I can't figure out what episode IWRY stands for 😕 I'm sure its just a blind spot in my memory or something 😀

Thanks, I kept thinking of I Only Have Eyes For You for some reason but it didn't fit 😀. I need to brush up on my knowledge of Angel episodes I think

I watched through Angel when it was on originally in UK on Sky One, and I remember now it's mentioned that it was related to the Pangs episode of BTVS I think, but yeh that was what 10 years ago or something 😱 My memory letting me down a bit after all that time 😉

Also, I thought of one now 🙂 The moment in Normal Again when Buffy is unsure which reality to choose when shes in the insane asylum

So, here are my top 5:

1. Willow - Crying in Xander's arms at the end of Grave.
2. Willow - When recieving the message of Jenny Calendar's death in Passion.
3. Buffy - After finding Joyce dead in the living room in The Body.
4. Giles and Buffy - After Buffy saved Giles's life at the end of Passion.
5. Willow - Lying on the ground crying after the car crash in Wrecked.


Wow. That was pretty hard, but I probably forgot something anyway 😛

Tome mentioned all of the instances that come into my mind. Buffy breaking down on the bed in "Innocence" is something that especially touches me. A lot of the scenes involving Buffy breaking down get to me. In terms of other characters the scene where Oz leaves Willow in "Wild At Heart" is another heartbreaking moment.

When Wesley is dying and Illyria pretends to be Fred for him is really the only thing that comes to mind.. Seeing other people cry on both shows doesn't really have much effect on me, and I think Buffy looks weird when she cries.

Some really really break my heart, whenever Spike cries, Buffy's crying is pretty heartbreaking. And I know that I'm a Spuffy, but the ending of IWRY breaks my heart apart as hell. Good actors we have here!

Oh, I forgot about Darla- as a mother myself, her lines in Lullaby always get me: "I won't be able to love it. I won't even be able to remember that I loved it. (Starts to cry) I want to remember." and "I don't know how. My boy. (Strokes her belly) My darling boy. - I told you I had nothing to offer this kid. Some mother (there are tears in Darla's eyes) can't even offer it life."

So many moments have brought me to tears... I'm only mentioning Buffy cause I haven't seen Angel yet...

I guess my top 5 would be

1) Buffy in "the body" when she tells giles, "we're not supposed to touch the body!" then bursts into tears
2) Spike crying by the tree in Bargaining II (I think) when Xander finds him
3) I don't think she's crying, but Anya's speech in the episode after the body when willow's trying to find the perfect shirt to wear to the funeral about how she doesn't understand death.
4) willow crying when tara dies and her scream at being told she cannot bring her back
5) spike falling on the cross, exhausted and asking over and over to buffy who stands behind him if they can rest now.


I have had absolute fits of hysterical crying and laughing from this show. I love it so much.

There are a few moments that get me, but the two that could make me tear up and feel for the characters every time are:
1. Buffy after she send Angel to Hell in Becoming: Part 2
2. Buffy in I Will Remember You when she doesn't want to forget

1. Spike crying when he sees Buffy's body in "The Gift".
2. Buffy crying when she finds out that Spike's got a soul.
3. Anya crying about Joyce's death in "The Gift"
4. Buffy crying in "Innocence" when Angel tells her she wasn't good enough in bed.
5. Willow crying at the end of "Grave"

1. Fred and Wesley crying at Fred's death, especially the "why can't I stay" ? This is the scene that devastated me the most in both Buffy and Angel.
2. Willow bursting into tears at the end of Grave...it kills me everytime.
3. Buffy crying at the end of I Will Remember You, repeating "I'll never forget" 🙁
4. Willow crying after the car accident in Wrecked, begging for forgiveness...
5. Willow trying to communicate with Tara in Conversation With Dead People, telling her she misses her so much...

Every time Willow would cry I almost would feel like crying cause she would, but as soon as Buffy came on crying I had a Poker Face.

Andrew just made me melt inside cause he seemed so lost and scared.

And when Anya died when she didn't understand death!

2. Buffy crying in "The Body"
3. Dawn crying at school in "The Body".
4. Anya crying in "The Body".
5. Buffy and Dawn crying together at the end of "Forever".

Those are the only ones I can think of right now, but I'm sure there's a lot more.

To make this easy, whenever Angel cries, almost whenever Buffy cries, and I pretty much die when they both cry.

The two that really really stand out for me are:

Willow in The Body while looking for a shirt for the funeral. Any time Aly cries I feel like my heart falls out and then I have to spend the next five minutes putting it back where it belongs.

And Spike at the end of "The Gift." I was having a hard time dealing with that episode to begin with but there he's there, sobbing and I'm just like . . . well, I guess it's time for me to sob too. Thanks Spike! jerk-face . . .

And [MENTION=11292]kittenpoker[/MENTION] mentioned when Spike is leaning against the tree after he sees Buffy alive again. He's got those silent tears going on, like he just couldn't help that he was crying but it wasn't the main thing on his mind. If that makes sense.

I was really really sad when Buffy start crying in the first 3 seasons because she was so young and often treated unfair. She just wanted to life a life like a teenager but she had to realize that this is impossible. This poor thing there .. I was so sad.

1- Buffy crying after her fight with Angel in "Innocence"
2- Buffy crying after stabbing Angel in "Becoming Pt.2"
3- Willow crying as Oz leaves in "Wild At Heart"
4- Giles and Buffy breaking down after Giles' fight in "Passion"
5- Buffy crying after Angel tells her he's leaving after graduation (Yeah, pretty much every scene where SMG crys makes me sad.)
6- Ending scene in "I Will Remember You"
7- Cordelia after she tells Xander to stay away from her

1. Buffy in Listening to Fear when shes washing the dishes, puts on the radio and breaks down. It gets me everytime and I think SMG has the best crying scene here than anywhere else.

2. As many other people have noted - Buffy in The Body after she says to Giles, "we're not supposed to move the body."

3. Buffy in Dead Things when she crys and breaks down into Tara's lap pleading "please don't forgive me"

4. Willow in any crying scene - especially Grave, The Body and at the end of The Killer In Me when she tells Kennedy that when she kissed her she let go of Tara's memory for a moment, making her truly dead.

"No, she was never gone. She was with me. We should have been forever, and I - I let her be dead. She's really dead. (breaks down into tears) And I killed her. (falls to the ground sobbing)."

Its the quivering lip and stream of tears and those eyes which get me everytime she cries!!!!!

=5 Tied between Faith in Five by Five when she collapses into Angel's arms in the alleyway (and then Wesley drops the knife as the camera pans out) and Dawn in The Body after hearing the news at school from Buffy.
