Characters we fall in love with

I'm definitely guilty as charged in that respect. My feelings for Willow got seriously romantic for a few months in, uh, late '98, early '99, IIRC, right after I started watching the show for the very first time.

In my teenage years, there were even a couple of cartoon characters I had the 'mance for.

I love Willow too. But it's not an "Aly" love, just Willow. And it's only when I'm on the Buffy-Boards or watching BtVS. I don't google Aly, I don't follow her tweets, or send her emails/letters. I'm not even a Facebook fan. It's all about Willow. lol

BTW, I tried HIMYM, and could only take about 20 seconds. I only watched American Pie once about 5+ years ago, and I haven't watched the sequels.

I think my Willow-love is pretty harmless. 🙂

This thread is weird...people here are using the word "love" to lightly. It's supposed to be two people who connect with each other. You sound like a crazy stalker when you say your in love with a TV character, or think you love their actor

I do love Spike and James. I love them both very VERY much.
Well from these shows no not really. I mean I love the characters deeply but not where I feel like I am in love with them really.
I have for other shows though. I feel like the character is so real to me but if I am being honest I am just in love with the actors of the characters as well because they are hilarious Cook from Skins would be a example. A character I have loved and the actor that I love a little to much would be Scott Foley who played Noel on Felicity and Tom welling would be a close second.

I feel like David could be pretty close.

We must to remember that all characters on the show(s) are fictional. But sometimes we don't remember that and we fall in love with them. Sometimes we fall in love with the actors BECAUSE of the characters, and we don't even know them (the actors)!

So have you fallen in love completely with characters from the verse, like really really in love, like real life people? Even if we understand we could never have them 'cause they're not real?

I think what you're speaking of here is an unhealthy devotion to a fictional character, lol.

and of course I'd say that the 'mance is always unhealthy. fictional, schmictional. :p

Very very unhealthy. Lol
I think it's entirely possible I maybe have fallen in love with Oz sometime during the last week, haha. 😀

As much as I love Buffy & Spike as characters, I wouldn't call it "being in love". I have a strong passion for them, I love them, but like we love a fictionnal character. Even if I can feel really bad if something wrong happen to them.

It happened that I use the term "being in love" with the Spuffy relationship (which is pretty weird I know 😛 ), but that's a way of expressing a different level of passion, because I feel something stronger and different when it comes to their relationship, even if I keep in mind that it remains fiction. But they helped a lot at a very bad time in my life, they were (and still are) like an escape/support, I think that's why they have so much value for me. I owe them a lot.

The closest I think I'll ever come to being "in love" with a character would be because I see traits in him that I want my man to have, rather than because I legitimately love him as I did, say, my ex-boyfriend. Part of real love is being able to talk to, and spend time with the person and cultivate an understanding of them and vice versa. And obviously with a fictional character, that's impossible.

But hey, that lady in Florida married a dolphin because it was "love at first sight", so what do I know? 😛

Well, I realize they're fictional characters but there are a lot of Buffy characters I could fall for. Well, the first being Tara, of course. She represents everything I love in a woman, and I kinda wish everyday she was real. But I totally see myself falling for Dawn, or Xander, Oz and even Riley!

I know how to separate fiction from reality, but my favourite (fictional) people have helped me a lot about (real life) people. Characters.. they're amazing. They can remind us of us, people we want to be, people we can be, people we are.. people we know, people we love. The best thing about them is that they're not perfect, and they help us realize imperfections are not that bad. Sometimes, I know to find myself in similar situations, and often I think about, for example, "What would Buffy do"? Sometimes I remember their words, their face expression, their decisions. And yes, I know to fall in love with them, because they're always there for me.
