Interesting video, I haven't been paying attention to any of this. If I had stronger feelings for the original I would also be very annoyed that they hadn't watched the original, I'm still pissed Michael Gambon never read Harry Potter (explains why his Dumbledore sucked...). You raised some really great points here!

But is that not a catch-22? You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. If they followed the original more closely there would be people complaining about that as well. "Why do we need a direct remake" et cetera.

He's Michael Friggin Gambon, why should he read Harry Potter? Good for him that he didn't. He's an actor, not an interpreter.

Actually I agree with this. The first season of Charmed was extremely Crafty ( teehee pun intended) and I completely wish they had stuck with that formula. Constance M Burge the original creator gave credit and openly said she took inspiration from The craft.
What sticks in my craw about this reboot is that they are stealing from the original show version the The Book of Shadows, the term The Charmed ones, and the Concept of the Whitelighter, and saying it’s from the creator of Jane the Virgin, with no shout out to Brad Kern or Constance M Burge. If they are going to take things verbatim from the original show they can at least say “ based on an original concept from ... yada yada”... you know? That’s all. It comes across to me, personally, that they are just using the brand of Charmed just to draw in the fanbase when really it’s not even a reboot. They should have just made this show and marketed it on its own merits .
Oh that’s funny I got no Craft vibes from season one. I just did a rewatch too (casually). It feels much more wholesome and family friendly than The Craft.

Oh well definitely a PG version!! 🙂 but early season 1 is much more Wicca oriented and much more serious ( although very 90s camp) then what the later seasons turned into. There was a definite inspiration from the Movie I think. The opening theme song is even from The Craft.

Refresh my memory - why should we be excited about a show where every episode ended with a McGuffin? We complain about the scythe, the Guardian and the medallion on Buffy, but every episode of Charmed ended with finding a spell and using the Power of Three to give it existence. What is the reboot going to do that actually makes this worth watching? They have a mixed-race stepsister, a step in a more modern direction but the basic premise of the story is:
1. meet up with a threat
2. get everyone together
3. find a spell in the old grimoire
4. chant the spell together
5. clean up remains of the disintegrated demon
lather, rinse, repeat.

Yeah I don't see the point in them sticking too closely to the original show. The original Charmed was sort of a product of its time. The point of a reboot is that you do something different with it.
