i didn't do spoilers when this first aired(something i have rectified since, and if there's a spoiler for a programme i watch, i've read it!!!), so the true nature of Glory was as big a shock as.....as....sliced bread.....but i loved it. I remember sitting there and saying Oh My Gosh so many times. What made it more hilarious, that was THE first episode i watched with my Grandmother as i was spending the night(ahhh i long for my Thursdays of past, Buffy at 8, Angel at 9 and Scrubs at 10, could there have been a better two and a half hours viewing.....) i can remember the quizzical "are you ok, or actually insane" look on her face, but i didn't care...Glory was a God. But she didn't understand, Buffy had to defeat a God. Harris Yulin(excellent in one of my fave movies-Ghostbusters 2) had just informed Buffy that Glory was a God. My mind raced, how could Buffy, a simple Slayer, defeat a God. She was good, but was she THAT good, and of course i answered Yes, Buffy was, but there was doubt in my mind. I spent that night tossing and turning, thinking up plausible senarios as to what was happening, but nothing concrete. AT this point i must commend the second greatest invention invention of all time, the humble VCR. This single device, combined with the FIRST greatest invention, TV, allowed me to watch the show again with Breakfast. I remember feeling those same instant humourous feelings at the Council Tests, the way of questioning and the fabulous 'Willow's a Demon' line, the encounter with Glory, the Knights of Byzantium, and Spikes interview, but this time, something lurked in my morning foggy memory, something big was coming and i wasn't sure i could understand it. Then, possibly comforting myself, i thought, 'hey, you dreamed that, She's just a regular demon, no biggy', but still, i tcould say that a million times, i knew it was wrong, then it came again....Glory, is a God.
I expected it this time though, and managed to understand it a bit more, infact it excited me. What was going to happen. I knew that the season Finale was 100, i knew Joss had planned tomark it, and i remembered the Restless/Graduation Day dreams all leading to this point. So, without waning expectation i looked forward to the next episode. I Went to college, saw my Friend of the time, Nina, and discussed the implications of what we had heard the night before...ahhh good times.
So, to say that Checkpoint is one of my fave episodes is kinda an understatement..lol.
I hope you managed to read all that BS, cause it was fun going over my old memories.
Thanx
