Just watched the episode called Checkpoint and I forgot how good the ending to that episode was. There's not much action but it's all about the monologue that Buffy does when addressing the Watcher Council.

And the person with most unfortunate name to work on Buffy has to be Thomas Wanker who does the score, you'd change you're name wouldn't ya? As well as Post Production Supervisor Brian Wankum but that's not as bad I guess.

I thought the ending was excellent.

The whole speech she gave was choice, and when she threw the sword and stuck up for the scooby gang it was brilliant. This episode is one of my favourites next to The Gift and Blood Ties, to name a few.

As for Thomas Wanker sadly that is a embarassing name for which I would most certainly change. Wonder where that came from.

I liked the Buffy/Glory scene at the Summers home. It sort of proved how powerful Glory really was. Buffy couldn't do anything to stop her, she knew what was going on around her at all times... knew that Buffy was reaching for a weapon, knew that Dawn was behind her. The speech at the end was great, and I loved Anya's sudden "Willow's a demon?!".

Yeah, that episode is definitley one of my favourites. From the glory visit, to the humor during the scoobies' interrigations, to the ending scene, it was really well written. The ending, especially, I felt was extremely well done; through all the mess that Buffy was faced with she finally took control and said that THIS was going to happen, however at the same time gave the council the one thing that they always seemed to strip from her; a choice. A very powerful scene, I don't know if or how anyone would be able to improve on it.

Sounds like a really apt name for a firm of solicitors though. Wanker & Wankum! Very appropriate! 😀

This is probably the thing I love the most about Glory.. Buffy hasn't got a chance against her. It's so obvious that Glory could kill Buffy whichever second she'd want to, she is just so powerful and so strong. Caleb is of course a bit similar (which is one of the reasons I like him as a villain), but he's almost scary cause of it, Glory is just really cool. It's not that I like Buffy to get hurt, I mean she is the slayer so obviously I'm on her side, but it's great to see that there are some people/gods/whatever that are just so much stronger than her.. (And yet she of course beats them in the end with the help of her friends, but that's a different story.)

This is one of my favourite episodes as well. I keep forgetting about it but whenver I see it I realize how great it is.. Love the whole ending of course..

Yeah, i love Checkpoint, too. Definately in my top five of the season anyway (although it's one of my fave seasons altogether so there are lots of incredible episodes to pick from).

This episode has some pretty powerful scenes though, definately features some defining moments for the arc, and yeah, the end was just brilliant, lol! 😀

i didn't do spoilers when this first aired(something i have rectified since, and if there's a spoiler for a programme i watch, i've read it!!!), so the true nature of Glory was as big a shock as.....as....sliced bread.....but i loved it. I remember sitting there and saying Oh My Gosh so many times. What made it more hilarious, that was THE first episode i watched with my Grandmother as i was spending the night(ahhh i long for my Thursdays of past, Buffy at 8, Angel at 9 and Scrubs at 10, could there have been a better two and a half hours viewing.....) i can remember the quizzical "are you ok, or actually insane" look on her face, but i didn't care...Glory was a God. But she didn't understand, Buffy had to defeat a God. Harris Yulin(excellent in one of my fave movies-Ghostbusters 2) had just informed Buffy that Glory was a God. My mind raced, how could Buffy, a simple Slayer, defeat a God. She was good, but was she THAT good, and of course i answered Yes, Buffy was, but there was doubt in my mind. I spent that night tossing and turning, thinking up plausible senarios as to what was happening, but nothing concrete. AT this point i must commend the second greatest invention invention of all time, the humble VCR. This single device, combined with the FIRST greatest invention, TV, allowed me to watch the show again with Breakfast. I remember feeling those same instant humourous feelings at the Council Tests, the way of questioning and the fabulous 'Willow's a Demon' line, the encounter with Glory, the Knights of Byzantium, and Spikes interview, but this time, something lurked in my morning foggy memory, something big was coming and i wasn't sure i could understand it. Then, possibly comforting myself, i thought, 'hey, you dreamed that, She's just a regular demon, no biggy', but still, i tcould say that a million times, i knew it was wrong, then it came again....Glory, is a God.
I expected it this time though, and managed to understand it a bit more, infact it excited me. What was going to happen. I knew that the season Finale was 100, i knew Joss had planned tomark it, and i remembered the Restless/Graduation Day dreams all leading to this point. So, without waning expectation i looked forward to the next episode. I Went to college, saw my Friend of the time, Nina, and discussed the implications of what we had heard the night before...ahhh good times.

So, to say that Checkpoint is one of my fave episodes is kinda an understatement..lol.
I hope you managed to read all that BS, cause it was fun going over my old memories.
Thanx

DDM, you are shocked by sliced bread?!? You really need to get out of the house more, buddy! 😀

Well its so perfectly sliced....i've tried it myself and it simply does not slice properly......its gets bumpy and thicker or thinner.....its just.....shocking!

LMAO! I'm like that with postage stamps ever since they made them self adhesive! I'll probably never get used to not needing to lick the back. Just too much of a shock to the system! :lmao:

wait....what....????

Self.......Adhesive......stamps.......self Adhesive.......and stamps......how wha.......how do they lick themselves?

I didn't like this episode for the fighting or the action within it but mainly because of the speech at the end. I loved how Buffy stood up to that stupid man, Quentin Travers. I also loved Giles line:
"She is not your bloody instrument!"

It cracked me up but it was so true at the exact same time. Quentin Travers is in my opinion, a very stupid man. I've never liked him...at all.

Anyways, I loved the speech near the end of this episode, Buffy standing up to the council = priceless Buffy moment.

Quentin Travers came across to me as representing an uninspired, paper-pushing, by-the-book bureaucrat. Someone who could inspire aggravation and contempt but maybe not exactly hate. Sort of a "what-can-you do?" kind of annoyance. Plenty of those in real life. It's just like what Buffy says to them in that Magic Box scene-she and the Scoobies, weren't asking the Watcher's Council to let them back in, the Watcher's Council was asking the Scoobies to let them back in. And even as "the boy"-Xander had more combat experience than all those Council people combined. I gave Quentin Travers credit for recognizing the truth in what Buffy was saying.

Yeah, it's a great scene with Anya, Xander, Tara, and Willow sitting at the railing on the upper level of the Magic Box, watching Buffy confront the Council below.
