My cousin is a huuuuge Buffy fan, much, much bigger than I am.
She's pregnant, nearly 7 months gone, and has decided that the child will be called "Buffy". This just makes me cringe, that kid is going to get bullied SO much.

It's better than "Spike", though, I suppose!

My question is, would you name your child after a Buffy character? For me it's a no-go.
If so, which character names would be acceptable?

Xander would be OK, so long as he/she was named Alexander/Alexandra, and then the parent shortened it.

I think Willow is pretty too.

Oasis karma ;)
As I posted elsewhere, my daughter is named Faith. Not ENTIRELY because of Buffy, because I had wanted it for other meaning. I would NOT have named her that though, if it wasn't for Buffy and seeing that the name could be cool and not too religious.

Faith is pretty, I wouldn't immediately assume a girl named Faith was named after a character
Tara is a beautiful name!
Willow's okay.
Anya is "regular"
Wesley is great
Connor is pretty
Harmony...is the name of a girl I knew!
(But if I have a son, I'll call him Anakin anyway).

Yeah, why not? Some of the names in BtVS are pretty awesome and different. Giving your child a name after or because of someone is special, because it has a story. When my child one day asks me why I named her/him that way, I would like to tell them why, not just because I liked it. It's never simple as that. I think what your cousin is doing is nice!

Connor, Anya, Wesley, Rupert, Jenny, Willow, Xander, Cordelia and Tara are all normal names these days (compared to people who name their children 'Apple' anyway). I don't personally like names like Faith or Harmony as they're a bit sickening for some reason (no offense to anyone with kids with those names).

I don't intend on having children but I'd like to name my dog Buffy. It's a nice name, slightly different but not stupid sounding.

I think Riley is a nice name, if I had a kid I would probably name him/her Riley.. (or Judas)

If I have a son I want to name him Xander (or Alexander). I would never name my kid Connor or Angel. And Riley seems like a dog's name.
I love the name Willow so if I have a daughter I might name her that, but I really want to name my daughter Spencer. 😀

To be honest, it wouldn't be my taste to name a child after a Buffy character. I intend to give my children Irish names (which I suppose could include Liam, but I wouldn't be calling the child after Angel.) No, really! Absolutely no one here is going to believe that, are they? But it's the truth. It has always been my intention to give my children Irish names, long before I even knew of Angel's original name.

Mine might be Liam, but after Liam Gallagher ;)
I wouldn't name my babies after buffy characters no, but that's mostly 'cause the names are to english sounding - I want my babies to have Swedish names. Alexander would work then, and anya, but those aren't as pretty as when you have the swedish prounanciation. 🙂 oh and also, me and my husband have already decided on names. 🙂

I'm probably not going to go with the major names, but maybe the actors (Eliza and James for example) but maybe I'll have one named Tara since I love that name a lot.

I really want a daughter named Dakota or Violet though

I have a puppy named echo!

I seriously considered riley for a boy's name (riley neko) but ended up on dylan....like jakob dylan 🙂.

I think picking a name that is strong and means something to you is much more important than picking something trivial just cause it's nice and normal. I have a cousin named maverick...can't say I love the name to be honest but it's something that meant a lot to his parents and they love it, so who am I to judge? And yes, their child us named after a tom cruise movie *sigh*

I also threatened my mother with naming my child rupert giles last name when she would not leave me alone about the name.

I love that name. So many great people are called Dylan.
I would never name my kids after a TV character, no matter how awesome the show was. It just wouldn't be my taste, plus I wouldn't want them to be harrassed in school because of their name. It's also a bit like Miki said - unless their father has an English sounding surname, I would give them German, Swedish or international names, because over here, English sounding names are extremely stigmatised. I love Irish names, but I probably wouldn't give them to my kids unless they have an Irish/English father for precisely that reason.

It's a different story with literary names though, I don't have a problem with that. I absolutely LOVE the little girl Tjorven from the Vi pa Saltkrokan books by Astrid Lindgren, but it's not a "proper" name in Swedish (I think I read somewhere that it means "little basket".. Miki?), so it would only ever work as a middle name. If I don't manage to trade my last name for something Irish and consequently can't name my daughter (if I'm lucky enough to have one) Siobhan, her name will be Anna Tjorven.

Don't forget the fada!
I would consider "Cordelia" (if I was having a girl 😀)

I think it's a pretty name and I love Cordy 🙂

on my sims game, i have 4 sims 3 children. i thought about giving them buffy names, but i eventually decided on alyssa, james, and the twin girls are isabelle and juliet. but i also like the names elizabeth, andy, wesley and lilith 🙂

I want to name my daughter Cordelia Jayne I've wanted to name her that since I heard the name. I love that name. It's beautiful. I hated my name growing up, my full name, so I used my nickname. If my kid hates Cordelia she's welcome to go by Cordy 😛

My other girl name I want to use is Alexis Faith, the middle name is obviously after Faith. I don't like the name Faith enough to give it as a first name.

I've thought about Liam, Andrew, and Alexander for boy names. However only Liam was Buffy inspired.
