Spike: No, you don't. But thanks for sayin' it.
My question is this, and it's not about the Spuffy relationship, pro, con, of neutral:
Do you think that Buffy ever told anyone about that final conversation? Personally, I think that she never mentioned it again. The moment was both very personal, and heartbreaking. She either didn't realize until too late, or, more likely, never ADMITTED until it was too late, her true feelings, and, because of her procrastination, the man who she loved went to his death believing that she never really cared, as far as she knew, anyhow. (I believe that Spike's laughter in those last moments was from the sheer joy of realization that she had finall confirmed what he had hoped for since halfway through Season 5.
