Ok so i heard from my boyfriend who apparently heard on the news that they are wanting to rename things... Basically instead of the christmas tree making it the Holiday tree.... i mean really what the heck are they thinking dont get me wrong no offence to those who are of different religions or those who have come into america from somewhere else... but honestly its like Jewish people can still have Hanukkah and African Americans can have Kwanzaa which dont get me wrong its great but why should those of us who celebrate Christmas have to give up our holidays name just because it has the word Christ in it? Honestly If it offends someone dont celebrate it but in the same right dont bash us and try to take over our holiday and change it just because it offends you....I dunno i'm sorry for the rant but i just cant believe it i mean really its just shocking to a point but sorta expected...

Oh don't even get me started on this whole politically correct Christmas business....I'm still peeved that Santa isn't allowed to say "Ho! Ho! Ho!" anymore.

Actually I heard on the radio today that they're even saying that Santa should get a revamp. That he's not fit enough and that the sleigh and reindeer thing should be changed. This is just madness.

HE ISN'T ALLOWED TO "HO HO HO" ANYMORE??? (or is that just in australia?)

It is NOT just Australia. It's an American thing & it's bull****!
It is! Political Correctness is making everything crazy! I don't get offended by people celebrating their religions in anyway, it's *thier* celebration not mine after all, so why on earth should they care that I'm decking the halls with holly? The thing is- they don't care! It's the government that think they do and so take things to extreme. It's like anything that goes on in my town is labeled 'winter' now not 'christmas'. 'Winter' fair, 'winter' rink, winter dance. For crying out loud just say christmas- we all know that's what you mean anyway!

And what's the religion they all knock but they don't try to change ? those classified as pagan.

I heard a commercial for Swiss Chalet the other day, and they were using Christmas carols, but replacing the word Christmas with "Festive day". They were going to have festive day specials.

I miss swiss chalet. And those christmas meals every year. Do you still get the lintdore choclates. I can't spell it sorry. Oh and..my mom ships me the sauce since we don't get it here.
[ Rant of the Politically incorrect OM3 begins in five...four...three...two...... ]

None of this PC crap-ness bothers me.
I ignore all of that nonsense, because that's all it is.
That'll be the day I allow my born free ass to be bullied into speaking in hushed tones by any government or radical group, or whining overly-sensitive peoples.

Now, don't get me wrong. I do respect that other folks have their religious beliefs and accompanying forms of celebration. But I am in total agreement with the sentiments expressed here, especially Slayer Comma The. For what reason am I going to be offended by someone else's traditions? There is none.
To each their own, and may they be blessed for it.

I certainly wouldn't infringe on other's rights to speak and/or celebrate.....nor would I impose my will, opinions and beliefs on others to the exclusion of all else. Ya just don't do that. Period.

If something I say in a celebratory vein offends someone, then screw it, let them be offended. In fact, I'm offended that YOU'RE offended, dear sir or ma'am. Ya just don't tell me I can't say something. Period: Part Deux.

I've been saying "Merry Christmas" my entire life. I'm an old dog and I'm not gonna change up now. It's how I express my good will on the holiday season. Of course I will say "Happy Hannukah" and so forth to those of a different holiday spirit than mine out of complete respect....but I'll be damned if you're gonna tell me I can't say "Merry Christmas" anymore.

I still say "black" in lieu of "African American". Too many syllables, not gonna do it. It isn't wrong to continue saying "black". When I say something truly derogatory, such as the infamous "N" word, THEN it's wrong, completely, and you can call me on it. Until then, shut the (expletive deleted) up. I still say "secretary" in lieu of "executive assistant". I still say a lot of stuff, and I am always going to.

And this boolsheet about the "Ho, ho, ho". What the hell is that? Are we also to rename the hoe garden tool a "curvy metal garden thingie that makes holes in dirt" because it's current monicker will offend someone? Ridiculous. Shut up. Seriously. Shut up.

So, to those of us still sane people on this earth and here on the BB....Merry Christmas, Happy New Year! Happy Hannukah! Happy Kwanzaa! And Happy Festivus for the rest of us!

Bless you all.

Rant over.

Peace.

I never know what is classed as 'profane' in America so I thought it best to err on the side of caution!
:iamwithst

I've been wanting to use that smiley since I signed up.

I totally agree, though (and love your Labyrinth theme). This whole "diversity" thing isn't real diversity. "They" (whoever THEY are) are trying to turn us into robots who all think and act the same, so they take away things that they consider outliers even though they're actually the NORM and everything they're protecting is an outlier.

Christmas has a lot more tradition behind it than, say, Kwanzaa. Not that I mind anyone celebrating it, but for the love of St. Peter, if you're not going to force the Jews to quit calling it "Hanukkah" or the Wiccans to quit calling it "Winter Solstice" or any of that, keep your hands off my Christmas.

Just sayin'.

Welcome as a charter member of the National "Shut The (expletive deleted) Up" campaign. :p
I'm not even a Christian, and I celebrate Christmas. My family celebrates it. It's fun. I don't see why the name matters. Also, I don't see why being "offensive" matters. Where in the constitution does it say we have the right to be perpetually free from offense? It doesn't! What it says is that we can speak our minds... and that those who disagree can speak their minds, too, but that we can't legally shut them up just because we don't like the rebuttal. Why can't the PC police get that through their thick skulls?

Same here. I'm not Christian, but I celebrate Christmas with vigor. PC be damned.
Woah, what?!? That's just totally stupid, and even if it happens, I won't abide by it <.<

It's hella annoying...Period! I say Christmas, to me it will be christmas. That's what I celebrate. No one can change that for me. On my front door or window, it will say Merry Christmas not happy holiday, and when I celebrate I will say christmas. Everyone has a right to their own religion and freedoms...but no one can change mine!

Exactly, it's unfair, our beliefs are our beliefs!

I'm fairly sure if they tried to pull that kinda c**p here in Ireland things would get violent. I'm not overly religious by any stretch of the imagination but telling someone to have a 'Happy Holiday' is something said during the summer when you go on vacation, it has no part to play in December! all this PC bull is striping away the meaning of everything! anyone remember the whole 'freedom fries' dabochal? really!! why is this necessary? God forbid people have different opinions! While 'they' are so concerned with not offending a certain group they have actually managed to offend EVERYONE.Well done! This bloody need to have everything and everyone the same is causing more problems than if they just let everyone be! We're all different! and personally I like it that way!

"Crap" is not profane, young lady. It's okay to spell it in it's entirety. :p:p
Wow. Just wow!

I'm not Christian and I do not get offended by a CHRISTMAS TREE or CHRISTMAS ITSELF!

I think if they want to make things better and less offended, do not change people's celebrations but do not call Winter Break for kids Christmas Break or have a Christmas Concert or maybe give kids off on really important holidays for other religions. Because, I mean, it is a PUBLIC school. But don't make other religions stop their celebration.

It's sad, isn't it, that this whole "political correctness" thing started as an attempt to not offend others. In trying to avoid offending the minority, we have managed to alienate the majority.

What did you reckon to the episode ' Pangs ' ?

From the third line of your rant, did you see the films, ' That'll be the day ' and ' Born free ' ?

You missed out on if a female actor is called an actress !?

I am from the Bible Belt of America so, needless to say, this whole thing is going over about as well as a turd in a punch bowl. It's a hot topic right now, and I don't think I'll have to worry about it much round here anyway.

I mean, the whole thing is sort of an oxy-moron if you think about it. The government is trying to be "politically correct" as not to offend people, and in turn all they are doing is offending people. Ugh.

I just hope I've long been dust-n-bones before this "Farenheit 451" society takes over completely.

I love the word oxymoron! lol!
Surprisingly (to me) the poster boy for atheism worldwide, Professor Richard Dawkins, enjoys the Christmas celebrations along with the rest of us "cultural Christians"...

Prof Dawkins, who has frequently spoken out against creationism and religious fundamentalism, replied: "I'm not one of those who wants to stop Christian traditions.

"This is historically a Christian country. I'm a cultural Christian in the same way many of my friends call themselves cultural Jews or cultural Muslims.

"So, yes, I like singing carols along with everybody else. I'm not one of those who wants to purge our society of our Christian history.

"If there's any threat these sorts of things, I think you will find it comes from rival religions and not from atheists."

BBC NEWS | Politics | Dawkins: I'm a cultural Christian

...which is pretty much where I'm coming from. If I visit another country I don't get offended by its customs and traditions...I may not like them but I respect them (unless they involve war crimes or other gross violations of basic rights)...I expect this to be reciprocated by visitors and immigrants to my country

I grew up as a muslim in a muslim family, and christmas doesnt bother me at all. I dont care if my friends want to celebrate it, or call it christmas, festive holidays or whatever. I dont see why its offensive to people...I mean, maybe as a kid i felt a little left out, but we had our own religious holidays too. That's my 2 cents.

I agree! I don't understand what's so offensive about it, either.

hey! we just learned about that religion in history! awesome! :P
I have one friend who takes exception to the diamond store commercials that are always out just before the holidays. She says they're "heteronormative" and... something else. I forget the second one. She's the most PC person I know, but even she is okay with Christmas. I guess it could be because she's Christian, but still. My point here is that I don't know anyone who actually opposes calling Christmas by that name. Does anyone else know any such person? I'm just curious about who's actually making all of the hubbub.

Its madness and craziness!!!! WHy would they want to changed things that have been the same for ages???

I mean.....I respect the cultures and traditions that everyone follows....but changing Christmas just because of "Christ"!!?? Come one people..What is the world coming to??? I love Christmas....one of my favorite holidays!!!!!!
