Cooking disasters?

Firstly: What the hell is "turkey bacon"?

Secondly: Actually, there is no secondly. The idea of bacon from a turkey has kind of made me forget what I was going to say!
I knew I'd get someone! Haha. It's very good! But different than regular bacon, which is also very good. I dunno, google it or something :lmao:

I love turkey bacon...must be an American thing.
Crazy Flakes agrees: I love turkey bacon...must be an American thing.

Not only am I American and aware of what turkey bacon is, I think it's nummy, too. So obviously it's NOT an American thing. *pokes with spork*

I pity the fool who hasn't had any turkey bacon.
I can't think of any cooking disasters that I've had myself, it all turns out pretty tasty so I'm told. Baking is my favourite thing, cakes, cookies, scones, muffins, cheesecakes, oh and pies. I'm very popular with my kids & their friends as you can imagine! 😉

I can however, think of one thing my aunt did a few years back though. She managed to dye a suet pudding blue, and I mean bright blue! Usually the puddings are wrapped in muslim or similar, tied and then steamed, and my aunt couldn't find any string so she used this blue nylon stuff instead, and of course as the pudding cooked all the colour came out of the string and dyed the pudding blue - it tasted ok though! 'lol'

I just keep thinking "blue soup" like Bridget Jones... lol
Where did my post go? I'm sure I posted in here! Well, here's what I said:

"Googled:

Bacon, Turkey Bacon, and Soy Bacon.

I know which I'd eat..."

I cooked my hand once while making french fries. It hurt like an MF'er. If that's not a cooking disaster, I don't know what is.

Oooh, you just reminded me of one time I accidently stuck my hand in a deep fat fryer.:lmao: How could I forget something like that?

Hehe this thread brings up memories 😛 I am a hopeless cook and I hate cooking. I only make the simplest of meals as I really am too slack and unco to make fancy stuff. Im sure the fact that I grew up with chefs has alot to do with it to as I never had to cook for myself and my parents were great cooks - most of the time!

Last year I was staying with my mum and in a matter of 2 days she tried to poison me with food 3 times! LOL First she cooked up a huge meal of spag bog and just as it was almost ready she tasted it and thought it wasnt quite right... after serving it up anyway I asked her what type of meat it was as it looked different, after looking in the freezer she realised it was dog meat! She accidently had cooked up the meat for our dog instead of the mince! The next night she cooked up some "pasta" from the freezer, which turned out to be curry puffs, they dont taste great boiled 😛 There was something else that she did but I cant remember now.. I suppose in over 30 years of cooking she deserves a few slip ups!

I am really a loser in the kitchen, I forget to take al-foil off things I put in the microwave (nice light show though!) and I have even cooked a frozen pizza with the plastic still on... and served it to party guests....

Rule #1 of cooking: microwaves are for softening butter and NOTHING ELSE.
I disagree, but I'm a guy and guys pretty much can choke down anything. So ladies, if we can't eat your cooking - it's B.A.D.

If not for the microwave I would have to eat out every night.
I cook things in a microwave that probably should not even be within 10 feet of one.

Aside from leaving the oil in the pan at full heat once until it thick biting smoke filled up the kitchen (probably just a minute short of a flash flame) I can't think of any real disasters - admittedly, that one was bad enough, though! Still, there's none too much people who'd enjoy my cooking - I like to boil rice & noodles into oblivion (to me, well-done pasta needs 25-30 minutes of boiling) and season the food strongly enough, especially with garlic, that you can smell I've had bolognese 3 or 4 days afterwards and probably DON'T want to visit my flat in that time, lol. Guess my taste buds are stuck in the Middle Ages: soft + spicy = yum yum 😀

Once at school we had to make a dinner for people with allergies or vegetarians so I made a chicken curry with quorn instead of chicken. I accidentally put too much mixed herbs in the curry sauce. The end result looked like someone had been sick on top of some rice.

Hold on, I remember a good one now, although it was my mum that did it - not me. She left the cooker on for hours one time and for some reason the heat burned through to the floorboards underneath and the floor caught on fire. We had to get the fire brigade out to hack away the floorboards. There's still a big hole in the floor under the cooker.

Lizzie reminded me that i poisoned myself with a cake i made once... and it was bright blue!

please remind me that if we should ever meet for dinner, its definitely ME who should do the cooking, lol!
I think I'm a pretty good cook, I've never had any big cooking disasters anyway..and I've never burnt anything (with the exception of toast, because toasters are evil)

The only 'cooking disasters' I've ever had were to do with myself and not the food. I have several scars all over my hands mostly from burning myself, and I've chopped my fingers many a time. The biggest disaster I had in the kitchen though was doing the SIMPLEST thing of opening a bag of pasta. I couldn't find any scissors to open the bag so I decided to use a knife, which admittedly did open the bag of pasta, but it also opened up the palm of my hand lol. I had to have stitches for that, though I have no scar.
