Cost of Living #6

Wow, I cant believe how many more frozen/premade meal choices there are now! And for SO cheap. So much more has become available to me since delivery and as the options grow.

When I make in bulk from scratch I tend to overeat because I dont want to waste any of it, but if I go with premade portions this might end up being a lot easier for me. I am a bit in shock at how many options and how cheap they are now! It was not like this three years ago. Amazing!

I am really happy with this, I couldn't afford to eat every meal as a premade but one a day is do-able financially. Woot! No cooking!

Looking for a little benchtop hand washer, any reccs? Most places don't deliver here, but still open to ideas cos I might find the same thing from somewhere local.

The good news is that our energy bills look to be getting a new price cap, lowering them.

The bad news is that this looks to be spring/summer when bills are lower anyway. In winter this would have been a lot more helpful!

Ok, I gotta rein it in a bit haha. I am starting to get too fat for my clothes and that's not another cost I want.

A bulb in my car's front turn signal is out. I've replaced bulbs before, and even have the right bulb. But it turns out that getting into those front lights is very involved. The back ones you just have to unscrew two screws. So, do I want to try to do it myself or pay the mechanic $50?

Yeah the fronts are annoying to do! $50 doesn't seem much for what would take you at least an hour on your own haha. How much do you value your own time (and sanity)?

My rent was supposed to go up on the 1st, that being a bank holiday, I figured it would go out yesterday, nope, went out this morning, but at the old amount. I reread my email, no I didn't have to do anything, they were going to adjust it from their end. Hmm.

Really wanting to avoid driving in the school holidays so todays order was a big one! I could probably had pushed through until next week, but the temptation of having things delivered today was too great. Its all stuff thats needed, but i probably could have saved $20 if i went in store for more options. Im already regretting the decaf coffee that I ordered, it was two for a better price but I dont even know if I will like that brand yet so buying two was over kill, even for the price.

Decaf coffee turned out to be lovely, so that was a good buy in the end hah.

I am credit card hunting. Never had one before, but now I am away from certain people I am allowed to now. Its a relief to be allowed to do that kind of thing. Feels like freedom.

Dwr Cymru so bad that once again my water bill has been reduced as they had to pay some of their fine to customers. Only £1 a month cheaper this time, but it's a reduction when everything else is still going up.

There are fears that oil prices could rise. Some are betting on them tripling. That would not be good for the price of petrol.

Decided to see if I could get free bread today at the zero waste stall. I got bread, potatoes, swede, some sour cream and Easter bunny chocolate!

So the slow cooker is now on making potato and swede mash, which I'll portion and freeze.

Chocolate has been eaten, sorry @November but it was orange chocolate as well.

After how bad my back has been since the last drive, driving has become even more unappealing!

Got the heater on tonight 😁 finally cooled off and I am so pleased. Gona budget the next eclectic bill to be at least equal with summer now.

That would not be good for the price of anything, since most stuff is delivered by truck. I really hope that won't be the case, but I've heard those rumors, too.
Petrol is already starting to creep up yet again here. It is nowhere near its peak of a couple of years ago as yet, but the trend is definitely upwards. If it were to go as high as suggested, that would be very bad.

The gasoline price hike here of 14 cents per litre was explained as "the changeover from winter to summer fuel", a problem only for carbureted cars and fuel injection replaced carburetion completely in cars by 1990. There was no need for this changeover for more modern cars. The local price is about 4 cents below what it was in 2022, so companies and governments want to get as much revenue as possible before the electric era begins. Then they will get a monopoly supplier of energy that they can control to our detriment.

I need to buy stamps today, I know the price has risen again.

If things escalate in the middle east prices will go through the roof
I hate when the grocery store stops selling the large size, and raises the price of the smaller size to boot, which is already more costly by weight.
I usually buy the large size but have noticed some products lately where the smaller size is better value which is really annoying as I don't want to have to compare the price on every single product!

They have gone up from 36p to £1.35 in the last 15 years! I have started using 2nd class stamps this year

I've found myself doing this a lot now, looking at the deals and then comparing the price per 100g or whatever it is.
