David Boreanaz is ready to leave his hit show, "Bones." The former "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" actor allegedly wants off the show, and won't sign on for another season.

David's co-star, Emily Deschanel is said to be committed to keeping the show going with or without Boreanaz.

However, it's unclear if that would work, since the stars characters are set to wed in an upcoming episode.

"Bones" is currently in its eighth season, and David Boreanaz has reportedly been telling anyone who will listen that he won't sign on for season 9.

"The show makes a lot of money, but re-casting a lead is always a challenge. The network could throw in the towel if David can't be signed for more seasons after this one," an insider revealed.

Recasting a main character is never a good idea. Fans will likely not respond to the recasting of David's character, and the show will lose the credibility that it has.

If they can't figure out a way to keep Boreanaz on "Bones," then it's better that they cancel the show, which has already had a good run.

I don't find this surprising at all, I've ofen wondered if DB was ready for something else. Honestly, the show has had a long run and as much as I love it; it is tedious at times. Personally I'd be more bummed about not seeing the supporting cast regularly, I've become fond of Michaela Conlin, Tamera Taylor and T. J. Thyne.
 
I watched the first three episodes and couldn't be bothered to watch more, never mind spend 8 years on it. At least with something like Angel the situations always in flux and there's plenty of surprises along the way.

David may not like the show, but it's steady employment, and in a time when Hollywood abounds with younger actors just as talented who are willing to work for less, I have my doubts that this is the greatest of ideas. Unless he's already got something at least tentatively worked out, or he has invested his money very wisely over the years, this just might be a career killer.

Of course, the whole thing just might be a ploy to negotiate a higher salary, which might have more chance of success.

Do actors have unemployment insurance?

I think it's money also, I think DB is better then Bones, which I enjoy but it's just a background show for me (stick it on in the background every once in a while)

He tweeted a little while ago (like about an hour ago) something like "Bones is on tonight [HASHTAG]#ManyMoreYearsToCome[/HASHTAG]"
 
To be honest, I kind of saw this coming. I mean, there was that whole cryptic thing he posted at one point, about 'that's a series wrap for me on Bones' or something like that, which was, I think, at the end of the season before last. I don't know if it was a slip of the tweet or what, but it kind of put that element of doubt in my mind and I wondered if he would last very much longer.

I don't think the show can continue without him. As much as I've disliked the later seasons, it would be sad if it went even further downhill than it's already gone by trying to bring in someone new, someone to replace Booth, which would be ridiculous at this point in the game. Either don't replace him, and let Emily take over as solo lead or just end the show. Anything else would be a disaster.
 
Yeah, I remember that odd tweet Lyri mentioned. He never really denied anything then, just sorta went back to work.

I don't think it will set him back career-wise tons. It seems like DB has been doing a lot more behind the camera work lately; I wouldn't be surprised if he's been getting experience with that type of work specifically for future employment needs.

Well, if that turns out to be true, David wouldn't be the first actor to decide that working behind the camera is more profitable, less stressful, easier, more fun, easier to get work, more challenging, any combination of those, or some other reason entirely. there immediately comes to mind other actors who have done exactly that. Nimoy and Frakes from the "Star Trek" shows, Ron Howard and Henry Winkler from "Good Times," and even further back, Max Baer, jr from the old "Beverly Hillbillies" series, to name just a few. Even successful actors like Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford, and Kevin Costner, not to mention the Duke, himself, the great John Wayne, at one time or another, with varying degrees of success, tried their hands at directing. Some make the change because they don't like the kind of roles they seem to always wind up playing, some because they tried it once and just found directing, producing, or whatever, to be more suited to their personalities, more challenging, or just plain more fun.

Of course, this is just all wild speculation. David may have a secret movie contract worked out already. He may be the next James Bond. (God knows we need another one!!!) for all we know.

I'm betting that it's just a ploy to stay on the show, but get more money for doing it.

Totally agree. I just don't see how the show could go on without him. But I mean, I understand him being ready to move on to new things, too... He's been doing Bones as long as he played Angel on both BtVS and AtS. I think he's probably ready to try something new.

Wow I am a bit surprised. I thought this was a pretty good gig for him, guess not. Doubt the show will last without him.
 
8 years isn't that long. Kelsey Grammer was Frasier for nearly twenty years and William Roach has played Ken Barlow in Coronation Street for about 53 years. (although he might not be in it any more)

Well I'm surprised. But then I was over Bones like two seasons or so ago so I'm like good for you, DB, move on and let the show end gracefully (or somewhat so at least 🙂) It grew stale a while ago.

But TBH, that was spread out over 2 series.

Personally, I think that the series should wind down. I like it a lot (although I liked he first few seasons better). I am not really interested in seeing Bones dealing with Booth's death. Despite the name is the show, there really is no Bones without Booth.

And I do understand DB wanting to move on (if the rumors are true). He's still young enough that I can totally see him doing action movies (he's got the looks & the physicality).

The show does need to end, it would have been good if Polant killed Booth, but judging my the latest episode, that isn't likely to happen
 
I love Bones and I've watched it pretty much from the first season. I think the main problem it has, or could potentially have on it's cast, is that it is a bit repetitive, there's only so much you can do.

With the wedding episode coming up etc, and if David is intent on leaving, then they may end up trying to finish it on a 'happy ending'. I doubt the show though, will end, even if it is a main cast that wants to leave. But who knows, it could be to get an improved contract.


8 seasons is a long time though, and I would imagine if he's come out and said he wants to leave, that he already has something else in the pipe line. I would imagine he would be in a similar series. His background on Bones was Military/Special Forces etc, so he may be looking for a show that can give him that story line where it's moved focused around that.
