In a recent episode of ABC's Lost, Buffy/Angel/Lost writer David Fury creates an interesting dillema.

In the episode one of the characters won the lottery. There was a quirk though. The numbers he won with were cursed.

He still gets the money, and actually the money makes more money, but bad things happen to anyone, or anything connected to the fortune.

A fire in a shoe factory he owns is actually a good thing for him financially. The factory was over-insured. That's the thing you see; although he keeps reaping financial benefits, bad stuffy befalls anyone in any way connected to the money. He buys his mother a mansion. When he takes her to see it, she breaks her ankle, and the house is on fire. The police arrive and arrest him thinking he's involved. He sues for false arrest, and makes more money. By the time of the episode the character is worth 150 million dollars.

So here's the quesion. If you could win the lottery by playing those cursed numbers, would you play them?

It's tempting to say yes but I don't think I could stand the hassle, so no 🙂 I'll settle for the obscenely large uncursed lottery win, if that's OK with everyone...

When I saw that episode I was tempted to write down the numbers and use them. I know its silly to believe that they could be cursed but if I won with them I would be so paranoid.

The numbers were - 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42.

Apparently 215 people in Michigan played those numbers on the 10 million dollar lottery the day after the show. They "lost".

The last line needs a "Ba-dum-cha!"
" lottery - tax on people who are bad at math"

" Michigan - A state surrounded by lakes in the rust belt, where everyone is bad at math"

If I knew I could win exhorbatant amounts of money, and I knew that the money was cursed, if I knew it wouldn't contribute to my overall happiness, I could easily turn it down. I have lived on far less than what I have now, and every human being's end game is to be happy. Big mis-nomer is that money makes one happy. How untrue, misguided, and naive, however, If I really needed a slushie, at the time it would be hard because no amounts of money can satisfy my slushie urges!

With this episode I was convinced "Lost" is one long "X-Files" episode. A very fun, compelling one at that. I wonder if this is gonna end up being related in some way to numerology. The belief that people's fates, destinies corresepond to numerals and numeric combinations

Before we see the numbers are cursed, we went to grab a piece of paper to write the numbers down to play them in the lottery, but as soon as the episode was done, no one that was watching with me that night wanted anything to do with those numbers.

What's funny is the last two numbers are numbers my dad normally plays because they're my age (23) and my birthday (4/2)...

lol I bet one day they will come up and we will wish we played them. Its like when my Gran died. She always played the same numbers so we have carried them on, just in case.
