So I got tired of looking for the thread that was asking about this or whatever and decided to post with all the correct information.
This week's (8/31/03 - 9/6/03) TV Guide has David and James on the cover, and here is a little tidbit from tvguide.com, I coded some of it for what could hardly be considered a spoiler, but still...:
THE BIG FANG THEORY

On the Hollywood set of WB's Angel, the brooding, do-gooder title character, played by David Boreanaz, is sitting in his office, lost in thought. He glances up at Wesley, one of his crime-busting partners, and asks,
"You don't think he's really gone, do you?" Within moments, his question is answered: Spike, the trash-talking, platinum-blond vampire, comes striding in, clad in his trademark leather trench coat.
For a guy who was last seen going up in flames on the series finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, he looks remarkably unsinged. The actor behind Spike, James Marsters, is obviously thrilled by his resurrection. "With the writers we had on Buffy, I felt like we could have gone at least two more years," he says during a break. Buffy and Angel creator Joss Whedon first approached the 41-year-old actor last winter about transplanting his 123-year-old character to Angel. Marsters jumped at the chance. "I have never felt bored doing this character. I don't know when I will be able to do something this delightful again, so why bid it goodbye before you have to?"
Spike's encore will be tied to the amulet that played a key role in Buffy's finale. "He's not just going to walk in and go, 'You wouldn't believe what just happened to me. I dreamt that I was burnt to a crisp,'" Whedon says. "We're going to bring him back in the most painful and confusing way for him possible."
I wonder if our tv guide will be the same! I have to find out! I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED! It's almost here! I just wanna go outside and run in circles screaming like a little school girl on crack! Ok. I feel a bit better now...Oh, I need to go buy video tapes for this season! I need to...I need to...BREATHE!!!
"I'm starting to do what I did at Buffy, which is to go off in a corner by myself," [Marsters] says. "Some of that's probably the character. but I suck at team work. I always have. It's more like 'Throw me the ball. It's MY ball."
The shows original star doesn't seem particularly comfortable with that idea. "Remember, it's called Angel." Boreanaz says. "Spike is one of my henchman. he is underneath me."
I'm getting a slight feeling that David might've been joking, Jacklyn. Why would he really say that cold-heartedly in an interview? Everybody would think he's an ass. I got my TV Guide today! Woohoo!
I hope so...it gave me an ick feeling though...and remember DB is my second hubby ( 😉 j/k-I'm not crazy) so I definitely don't wanna believe he meant it in a bad way!
C'mon, I personnally do think that David is the tinniest bit jealous of James, 'cause he's been asked to save the show, all the attention Spike gets now, used to belong to Angel. Maybe he tries to make it look like he's ok with it, but man, that's gotta be eating him!
Personally, I think that the show didn't need saving. Is James' addition to the cast a new and interesting thing, yes. Is it saving the show? Nah...not at all...the show was great as it was.
Yes, the show was great for all the hard-core fans. However, the ratings weren't that high in mainstream t.v. I heard a rumor that if James wasn't going to join the Angel cast that there wouldn't even be a fifth season! I believe his presence will definitely improve ratings for the show this year. The possibility of Spike overshadowing Angel's character might effect the relationship between the two actors, but not the continuity of the show.
David has never come across has being big headed (unlike SMG). James has also said in interviews that the show belongs to David. I don't think their is any friction between David and James. David has that kind of humour.
