Dawn having the last line

I've heard some discussion about this but what did you think about dawn having the last line in the show? Did you like it?dislike it?not care about it?

Well, I thought that Dawn didn't deserve to have the last line. she just joined in season 5 and I dunno, I think Buffy or Willow or Xander should have had the last line because they'd been doing the slayage thing since the beginning. Those are just my thoughts
 
To be honest I don't think it matters because while she said the last line on the show the last thing we saw was Buffy and that smile, so to me THAT was the final word from the show not Dawn.

I never really thought it was important who got the last line...technically, it's not even the last line, we still have the s8 comics 😉
And well, she might've gotten the last line, but while speaking she wasn't even shown, we had the camera zooming to Buffy, so it's not that big of a victory. Other than that I think the line was most suitable for her. Willow and Faith already said something on the topic, and well, I can't really see any of the guys asking Buffy what to do now.
 
I actually liked that Dawn had the last word...to me, it symbolised the fact the fact that things weren't the same as they had once been. The Potentials are all Slayers now, and to me, Dawn having the last line cemented that. It was like Buffy was passing the torch to the next generation. Even though Dawn wasn't a Slayer, she is Buffy's future, so that's what I took from it.

But the fact that it was Buffy's face, and that smile, was the last shot is really all that mattered. THAT was the whole point.

PLUS! Buffy's last word on the show was SPIKE! So that gave me a big happy! :lmao:

I never liked, but i guess ive gotten over it. But i do remember when i first saw it, everyone the next day in school was definitely bitchin' about it.
 
When I first saw it, I thought, What's the deal with Dawn having the last line?! Now, I don't really care, since, even though Buffy didn't say anything, she sort of had the last line. I have to admit, though, I would've liked to see Willow having the last word, but that's just because I have favorite character bias.

Just be thankful the last line wasn't said by one of the Potentials.
 
Given what the last line actually was, I can't see anyone BUT Dawn saying it. She was someone who had never been afraid to ask Buffy for guidance while everyone else had always been 'I can do this myself thank you very much', but with everything that had changed everyone was gonna need to turn to Buffy for direction and Dawn voiced that.

And it fit that as Dawn said the line the shot was on Buffy. It was like the end of the show was fixed on just the Summers Girls...which I liked. Being a Dawn fan may make me biased here, haha

It never bothered me who had the last line, but, in a real terms view, you'd expect the youngest person to be the last one to speak- it's a kinda 'oh, what are we going to do??' thing, where a teenager seems to need to know whats going on- especially Dawn who needs stability in her life- or maybe I'm drunk and reading too much into it.

Plus, while Dawn had the last spoken line, I feel as though Buffy had the last line- her final expression after Dawn said her line, spoke volumes more than anything she could have vocally said, so I feel as though Buffy did have the last line after all- even though it wasn't vocalised, you could see what she was saying through her eyes and face.

yep. thats pretty much everything i was gonna say.
 
I really don't think it mattered who got the last line, 'cause the ending wasn't about the speech, it was kinda about how Buffy reacted, so last line, pretty irrelevant, in my opinion.

Personally, I thought that Drusilla should have popped out of no where behind Buffy to say the last word...Okay not really, but seriously I think that Dawn saying the last word was fitting as everyone said before. I think it set the tone for the idea of all the new changes that were going to take place but you see in Buffy's face that she was going to stick around!

Eh, it's always bugged me a bit, but... I agree with everything everyone's said, really. Buffy's smile spoke volumes more than anything she could have possibly said. It was a nice sentiment to actually see Buffy -truly- smile.
 
To be honest, never even thought about it. And I didn't think about it because it didn't matter. I guess if it would have bothered me I would have made this thread. I dunno...Buffy got the last view so that was good enough for me. You know, now that I thought about it.
 
I guess at first I was a bit disappointed that Dawn (who at the time I still did NOT like!) had the last line. But I do agree that Buffy's facial expression said more then words (even brilliantly sculptured Joss words) could ever say!
 
Was not happy, I expected a cheesy line from buffy as would be fitting for the show
