Faith: "Miles to go. Little Miss Muffet counting down from 7-3-0."
Buffy: "Great. Riddles."

Ok this was the first clue about dawn... there was 730 days until Dawn was coming (i think i heard this in commentary) and then in season 4 the episode "Restless"( im pretty sure this was the ep) Tara says to Buffy "be back before dawn" ... i mean dawn was always meant to be there since season 3.. i mean do you guys agree... i heard this stuff either in commentary or on television somewhere??? is all this leading up to Dawn... i mean how did tara and faith know this... am i mistaken or correct... didnt the key become human in season 5 and not before how could they know this before the monks ... im soo confused...

Who was half crazy?

I think its unlikely that Buffy was really speaking to Faith or Tara. She was dreaming both times and Buffy's dreams tend to be prophetic. It seems this time they just took the forms of Faith and tara. Fith because Buffy would have a fair amount of guilt regarding Faith and Tara because the First Slayer had no voice. (Dont know why her specifically though).

So to me it seems it was just more dreams telling her something was coming.

no it wasn't leading to Dawns 'Birth' it was Buffy's death.
730 days is the key.......lol.....at the end of season 3, 730 days is 2 years....so the end of season 5...thus by this point Dawn already existed.
Dawn is a big part of the sacrifice, the life and thats why she is hinted at in restless, but she isn't focus of the dream in season 3 or 4........Buffy dying is.

Ohh and though i believe it was Faith that was talking to Buffy in the dream, an astral projection, something shared by the slayer line or something, i don't think that it was Tara. I believe Buffy's subconcious allowed her to percieve the message that some PTB on high was sending it, and Buffy placed it in the form of someone she knew, but didnt know......you know what i mean?

Oh, yeah. Miles to go... Little Miss Muffet counting down from 7-3-0.

Little sis coming. I know.

The above two quotes are both spoken by Faith (or Buffy's dream version of Faith, depending on your viewpoint) and are supposed to relate to the arrival of Dawn and the dire end result for Buffy in The Gift.

"Little Miss Muffet" was the very first time that Dawn was mentioned on the show, way back in season 3 (Graduation Day Part 2), followed by the "Little sis" comment, later on in season 4 (This Year's Girl). Whether or not there is any relevance to the fact that Faith was the one to mention her both times is anyones guess, although my guess is that it is purely coincidence. The fact that a dream version of Tara also alludes to Dawn arriving in Restless would suggest that it is merely Buffy's own prophetic abilities that are responsible.

But as has already been mentioned, 7-3-0 relates to Buffy's death, rather then Dawn.

Like I said before 🙂

Hehe, sorry about that! I've got a nasty habit of not reading beyond the first post of a thread and then jumping in with my own opinion.

But yeah, absolutely agree with what you already said! 😉

I do that too. Just wanna say what Ive gotta say. Dont notice someones beat me to the point 🙂

Ah well, guess it doesn't hurt to have somebody making the same point as you. Just helps to prove you are right! 😀

Originally it was supposed to be Faith talking as the First Slayer I believe. But they couldnt get Eliza for the part. So, Amber Benson filled in.

ok, so heres the deal, when Faith mentioned it, she and Buffy were both in a coma, and when Tara mentioned it, it was in Buffys dream. So neither of them were actually concious when they said it, it wasnt that they already knew, it was just a subconcious thing.
And Joss is a genious, if you look at "Restless" then you will see so many things that he foreshadowed happening, he knew what he wanted to do, and he pulled it off magnificently.

Okay...
Let's forget about Tara's "Be back before Dawn" comment, and focus on Faith's words.

If Faith and Buffy are both slayers, why does Faith get messages that are Buffy-centered? That doesn't make sense to a newcomer like me. Is it simply because Buffy was supposed to be dead (season one finale)?

If you're going to give somebody a sister...and then give info about a death, why use prophectic dreams and why give those dreams to somebody else?

Tell Buffy "You're getting a sister through some kooky means and in two years, you'll die protecting that sister"

That's straight forward and right to Buffy as opposed to riddle-wise and to Faith.

In short, why should Faith care about Buffy's (not) sister?

We dont know that Faith got the message. It was Buffy's dream, not faiths. And Buffy's dreams arent always straight forward. Much like Cordy's visions. Look at season two when she dreamed Dru was gonna kill Angel. The dream was full of weird stuff.
