Ok this may be one of the most depressing threads created but that's not the point....basically i was wondering out of both buffy and Angel which death hit you the hardest.

Fred. Definitely. They all make me a bit sad and choked up, but I sob during Fred's death scene in "A Hole in the World."

Buffy's death, in The Gift. Most of the others were generally more easier to 'forget', per say, because of them being subplots.

Well, it depends on what you mean. If it was which death made me the saddest, I'd say Joyce or Fred. The Body and A Hole In the World both had me sobbing like a newborn. But if it's which death had the most impact on me in the long run, it was definitely Tara's. She had such a huge presence and the show just didn't seem the same without her.
Thankfully, I was able to choose all of them because of those neat-o ticky boxes 😀

Tara because she was my favourite character, her death was so senseless and so human and its impact was one of the biggest on the series.
Jenny because I defy anyone with even only a little heart to not be brought close to tears when Giles finds her. I guess its the repercussions not the actual death though. When Willow is informed that is heart breaking too.
Fred because if I I hear the line 'Why can't I stay' it makes me immediately curl into a foetal position and sob like a teenage girl who has been kicked in the ovaries!

I'm explaining all of the death I know I know , but Ive had to much sugar today!
Ok I voted Joyce because It was like reliving my mothers death and Other because Anya was such a shock and it made me feel like she was just something to be forgotten. Yet all is fair in Love and War. I just miss her, I think she would have been great in the comics.
Fred and Wes would have been next. Buffys death(s) didn't really upset me because that what a slayer is born to do , give up your life for the world.

I cried like hell when they play "A place called home" at the end of A Hole In The World. And also with Buffy's last speech in The Gift.

I voted for Cordelia. When she said the line "I'm just on a different road and this is my off-ramp." I knew my favorite character was going to die. Just had to sit back and wait for it to happen. Feeling sad and angry.

I could have said either Joyce or Fred for different reasons.
"The Body" was definitely an episode that hit you harder than any other. It was designed to make you sad and uncomfortable. To be as real as possible. And it worked. For that reason, I could have said Joyce. That being said, Joyce was never a favorite character of mine so after that episode, I really didn't miss her that much. In fact, I think the last few episodes of season five are among the best in all of Buffy.
Of the characters that died, I'd have missed Wes or Anya the most, but they both died in the last episodes of their respective series so it was never really an issue. Buffy, Angel, and Spike all come back so their deaths aren't that hard to deal with in the long-term. I love Cordelia in early Angel, but they slowly killed the character for me before they finally, well, killed the character. By the time she died in season five, I kind of felt like she'd died two seasons ago. Tara's death was pretty well-done, but I knew it was coming before I even reached season four (spoilers), so it really never hit me very hard. Never got too attached to the character in the first place. Doyle and Jenny are both good characters that had great deaths, but they were also both pretty short-lived characters. For that reason, I have to really pick Fred's death. "A Hole in the World" is second to "The Body" in terms of immediate impact, but Fred is ultimately a much more prominent member of the Angel gang than Joyce is to the Scooby Gang and I miss Fred more when she's gone (although Illyria is awesome, and it really pushed the latter half of season five to newer, greater heights) and Alexis's performance thereafter really just makes Fred's death all the more powerful.

Tara. From the moment she had been introduced, I knew I would like her. There was something about her that was so familiar to me, and it just *clicked* from there. When I saw her die, I...I couldn't believe it. I was so shocked that I didn't even cry immediately. But after that period, I mourned for weeks, especially since the last three episodes were reminders of that very moment. When it comes down to it, these words do ring true: "Bad things happen to good people." However, I understand now that such a thing had to happen to further Willow's storyline. The thing is that I can't/couldn't 'accept' the death.
I finally got around to watching Angel recently, and Fred quickly became my favourite character from that show. And then came the episode "A Hole In the World". I swear I hadn't cried that much in a long time. I mean, it's understandable why so many of the characters cared about her - she was genuine and sweet and all-around loveable.

Clearly Fred for me. Remember she died in a way both more painful and more permanent than anyone else... :bawling:

Angel and Anya (other) for me. I had no idea Angel was coming back for third season so it really sinked that feeling in that Jenny death had started. Jenny, Joyce and Tara were kinda shocking in their own right. Cordelia left me rather cold suprisingly, I guess it was because deaths were normal to me by then and it was long time coming. Now Fred death, that is the only death scene i never want to see again as it was way overdone for my taste. I think that also contributes why her death was not that shocking to me.

It has to be Fred's death, although I've never even liked Fred too much.
It was just the whole situation, all the circumstances that complicated it. All the other deaths 'just happened', people got killed (or they decided to sacrifice themselves) and none of the characters really had a word in it. With Fred, however, it was a completely different story: There was a choice. Admitedly, it was not a good one, the lives of hundreds of thousands in trade for Fred's, but it was there, and, unlike with self-sacrifices, Fred was not the one who was allowed to make that choice. That's what makes it so sad in my opinion. And the fact that Cordelia already died like 3 episodes earlier didn't make it any better.

I voted for Angel because I remember that Angel's death hit me on the first view, I was all shaking and silent for a while. But now when I re-watch this episode, I'm pretty stoic actually.
Same goes for Jenny, and the scene with Giles didn't make me as sad on the first view, even though I find it very cruel; heart-breaking when Willow finds out; shocking when Angel actually kills her. I didn't vote for her though.
To me, "The Body" is the best episode in both shows. That's why I voted also for Joyce's death, more for the idea of Joyce dying, and for the great episode, than for the actual end of her life, because I think it was kind of meant to be, in the context of the season... Plus, I don't see how Buffy could have grown the way she has if she hadn't had to take all these responsibilites.
Buffy's second death is terrible too, so I also voted for Buff, but I think it's undermined by her imminent ressurection (I watched the show after it aired, so I knew she was gonna come back). It makes me more depressed when I imagined that could have been the end of the show, the end of the character. It would have been more upsetting and also very true to the character.
Anya's death was shocking. It hit me and haunted me for days after "Chosen". I don't know what else to say.
Tara would come second : "Your shirt?" Need I say more ?! I love this character. It was all so horrible.
But the death that stroke me the most is Fred's. "Why can't I stay ?" OMG. I mean, OMG. And the part at the end of the following episode when you see her going to L.A., it's just cruel. I mean it. Cruel. I loved Fred. It's cruel. The way she just dies and everyone insists on the fact that Illyria burned everything that made Fred Fred, you know she hasn't gone out to a happy place... It's the hardest death in that: you know there won't be Heaven for her who deserved it the most.

As for Doyle, I really liked this character but I thought his death was rushed, I felt like they had to get rid of the actor and just had an episode centered around him and killed him. Pretty much like Betty in Dead like me. I know that Joss said it wasn't like that but I find it hard to believe.
Cordelia huuuh... I think it could have been really upsetting but noone cared about her death, we get what, one phone call, and one line from Angel three episodes after ? And though I love how they all fight to cure Fred, I think it's hard to believe they were never that invested about Cordelia.
And Spike, hmmm... Don't really care actually, I thought it was too predictable, ooh let's have the character adored by half our audience die a heroic death on the final episode! Meh. Besides, how weird and unsatisfying was his last scene with Buffy ? Written in a way so Bangel fans could say "HAHA! She doesn't love her, Spike just said so" and Spuffy fans could say "HAHA! She loves her, she just said so" ?! Way to take a stand, Joss.
Wesley's death for me was totally wasted by the fact I got spoiled about it like 30 minutes before watching the episode. Besides, I think it's perverted how Illyria turns to Fred and "lies", it's disrespectful to Fred, according to me.
I'll stop talking now.
