People are in my heart...my best friend, Anita...she's in my heart...but I dont love her like a girlfriend...

Did you really expect her to admit out loud to Angel that she loved Spike?

Did I say I expected her to admit it to Angel?

Um....no....

I do believe she loved him in the end.. I don't think she was in love like she wanted them to be together (well if things were different and he wasn't dying), but I do believe she loved him in some way, she loved how he had changed and who he had became and all that. I'm almost surtain she did.

Although I hated every Buffy spike moment in the last season I have to say (although I hate to admit it) She did love him when she said it. IT was how she felt. If we remember there was the ep where the psycic(sp?) girl told Spike she'd tell him how she felt and all that. She did have feelings of love for him. weather it would have lasted that way is another point.

Buffy was in love with Spike. The fans simply didn't believe it, because she didn't act like an infatuated schoolgirl, like she did with Angel. They would have been convinced she was in love with Spike, if she had acted the same way in Season 7, as she had done during the early years - forgetting that Buffy became more reluctant to express her emotions, as she grew older.

I like to think that she was. Her and Spike's love was more grown up then her and Riley's or her and Angel's. Angel's was true love, but she acted like a spoiled brat sometimes. She was young and a beginner. With Riley it was basically more like a trial run. She did a bit more growing up. With Spike it was more adult. She had grown up.... lived and learned.

She loves me, she loves me not....

I think when Buffy told Spike she loved him in "Chosen" she meant it. I think it wasn't until that exact moment that she realized it. The look on her face when she realized what Spike was going to do....she didn't want him to go. My opinion is a big fat doozie of a yes. :tongue05:

Buffy and Spike sittin in a tree, K-I-S-S...
Really...I'm seeking counseling! :vpleased:

I dont think she was IN love with him, I think she did love him though.. just not the way he loved her..

To say that Buffy wasn't in love with Spike yet told him "I love you" in Chosen, is to say that Buffy is the type of person who would lie to comfort another person. In my opinion she's not. Buffy doesn't lie. She lives in a world of hard truths and she is more than capable of dealing with them. Spike supported Buffy unconditionally when no one else would, and she relied on him during the entire 7th season. To lie to him would be especially hard for her because of the trust they built while working together. Also, as LadyLavinia pointed out, Buffy was wounded too many times in her relationships to be able to say "I love you" easily. When Buffy told Spike she loved him she wasn't being nice, she was confessing a secret. She knew he was dying and because of her love she had to tell him the truth.

Lol, you wrote the same thing to me two weeks ago.. Anyway, what I answered then and still do is:
"No I don't think she has to act like that to be in love.. not at all. I don't like Buffy's relationship with Angel or Riley, this has nothing to do with that. I do believe that she had strong feelings for Spike, I think she sometimes wished it was love.. But I don't think it was. She was clearly attracted to him, they got along well, his love for her made their relationship deep in some ways.. And I really wish I could believe that Buffy loved Spike, I just don't think she was even capable of loving at the moment.. Maybe she would've been if she wasn't so held back and incapable of feeling at all because of the way she felt about the whole coming back from death thing.."

And I also do believe that she did love Spike in the end (as I wrote), but I don't believe she wanted them to be together, I don't think she was in love with him that way.. I wanted her to be but.. don't think she was..

Since Angel:tS and BtVS had Buffy and Angel going through the same plots with different situations I think to understand if Buffy loved Spike is by asking was Angel in love Cordelia. We all know that is true but most of us can agree that while Angel moved on he still loved Buffy and they were soul mates. Buffy moved on too, not because she wanted to but she had to because of Angel's curse and she never thought she would be able to until the moment in Chosen. She was in love with Spike but Spike knew she would choose Angel if circumstances were different just like Angel would choose Buffy. Even though Angel and Buffy were both completely in love with different people at the time, it just wasn't the same. It's safe to say that Buffy loved Angel more than Spike and Angel loved Buffy more than Cordelia because as Mr. Whedon says, "their relationship transcends everything". They knew each other was around before even seeing each other. They had love in its purest form. Buffy loved Spike in Chosen but that doesn't really matter because Spike knew that Buffy would always keep a part of her heart from him, the part that still hoped for Angel.

Thanks for the imagery. I am going to go drill a hole in my skull and yank my brain out now.

As said in the thread Slayer Calling? S7 is "didactic in it's clarity", for those of you who use that as the basis for saying that the line runs through Buffy you have to believe that Buffy loves Spike, you simply have no choice because to do believe other wise undermines your claims about the Slayer line runing through Buffy. For those who don't use S7 is "didactic in it's clarity" as a basis for anything I'll leave that up to you.

Spike loved Buffy, Buffy loved Spike. Actions speak louder than words and their actions screamed their love for each other Spike just was louder more often.

I find this hard to believe, since Buffy chose Spike's help over Angel in the final battle. And that "second front" excuse she had given Angel was nothing more than that . . . an excuse.

Do I believe in soulmates? No. I find that it's an adolescent or infantile term for those who want to believe in fairy tale romances or who want to believe that two people will remain in love forever without any work or sacrifice on their part.

Buffy and Angel had never worked on their romance. Instead, they indulged in illusional views of each other. Their relationship had never grew or develop . . . and I doubt that it ever would. I'm sure that Buffy will always feel love for Angel and view him as her "first love", and that Angel would feel the same about her. But they would have never worked as a couple, because they were incapable of making any effort to make their relationship work.

Buffy's relationship with Spike and Angel's relationship with Cordelia were entirely different matters, in which we saw the "development" in the two romances. Neither were pretty or filled with passionate "I love you"s or anything like that. They were more complex . . . and more real to me.

I think not.

Buffy knew that there was a huge chance that they could lose the battle and the ubervamps would be free. So I see that not as an excuse, but Buffy thinking clearly.

She chose Spike because she still couldn't be with Angel. Nothing has changed since he left in S3

..

Do you believe in vampires? I mean it's a show, there can be soulmates if the writers write it that way or if the fans believe there is.

I realize that this is a show that we're talking about. Just because the writers may have use the word - soulmates - doesn't mean I have to believe in it. Or accept it.

Oh, yes I have. I don't know about you, but I found it appalling. I found it appalling that Angel would make a decision to have Buffy's memories of that day removed without her consent. And if his reason for giving up his humanity was for Buffy's sake, why didn't he remain in Sunnydale to help her deal with Glory - a hellgod - when he went to visit, following Joyce's funeral? He didn't have to stay in Sunnydale forever. Just long enough to help her deal with Glory. Which makes wonder why he really gave up humanity.

If Buffy was really thinking clearly, she would have realized that Angel and his friends would have had less chance of fighting against the First's ubervamps than the Scoobies and the Potentials-turned-Slayers would.

Was Angel even informed of Glory? I don't think we were told that in the transcript, so you really can't use that against me.

He gave up his humanity to prolong her life. You heard the oracles. If Angel had stayed human, then Buffy would have died sooner. Most probably because without someone to defend the rising darkness in L.A., there would be too much for Buffy to handle.

What if he had stayed human and she had died sooner? Maybe she wouldn't have been brought back that time and then look at the chaos Sunnydale and the world would have been in. No active slayer with Faith in jail. Think about that.

I see a flaw in that statement.

When Buffy told Angel to go back to L.A. to start the front, she hadn't even conceived the idea of activating the potentials yet. So she didn't yet know that would have an army of slayers behind her back.

I thought we were discussing Angel. Not you.

Whether they were Potentials or Slayers, Buffy's group still had a better chance against the Ubervamps, than Angel and his friends.

You don't know that for certain. No one does. We don't even know if the Oracles were discussing Buffy's death, as it happened. Or not. That's a pretty broad statement to make. I think that Angel gave up his humanity, because he wanted to remain special - a souled vampire and champion.

Actually, by then, Angel had the full force of Wolfram & Hart at his disposal. I think Angel, the Fang Gang and the massive power behind Wolfram & Hart could have done far more damage than the Scoobies and a bunch of un-activated potentials.

That last line may be the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard concerning the Buffyverse.

Yeah I bet that's right. Angel never cared about Buffy, he just wanted to walk around with the title "Only Souled Vampire".

You do realize that he truly loved her right? This was not some sex only relationship like Spuffy. Look in to their eyes right before the day is erased and you'll see the greatest love there.

This proves almost all what you said wrong:

Angel: "The Mohra demon said the end of days had begun. That others were coming, soldiers of darkness. I need to know if he was telling the truth."
Man: "As far as such things can be told."
Angel: "What happens to the Slayer when these soldiers come?"
Woman: "What happens to all mortal beings. Albeit sooner in her case."
Angel: "She'll die? - Then I'm here to beg for her life."
The Oracles turn and walk away: "It is not our place to grant life or death."
Angel: "And I ask you to take mine back. (The oracles stop walking and turn back to him) Look I can't protect her or anyone this way, not as a man."
Woman: "You're asking to be what you were, a demon with a soul, because of the Slayer?"
Man turns to leave again: "Oh, this is a matter of love. It does not concern us."
Angel: "Yes, it does. The Mohra demon came to take a warrior from your cause - and it succeeded. I'm no good to you like this. I know you have it in your power to make this right. Please."
Man: "What is done can not be undone."
Woman: "What is not yet done can be avoided."
Man: "Temporal folds are not to indulge at - the whims of lower beings."
Woman: "You are wrong. This one is willing to sacrifice every drop of human happiness and love he has ever known for another. He is not a lower being."
Man: "There is one way. But it is not to be undertaken lightly."
Woman: "We swallow this day, as though it had never happened. Twenty-four hours from the moment the demon first attacked you, we take it back."
Angel licks his lips: "Then none of this happened and Buffy and I.. What - what'll stop us from doing the exact same thing again?"
Woman: "You. You alone will carry the memory of this day. - Can you carry that burden?"

Spuffy wasn't only sex, my dear friend. We see that very clearly in Season 7.

The thing that makes me want to give Angel a big ole "Duh!" is the wording the Oracles use in IWRY.

Angel: "What happens to the Slayer when these soldiers come?"
Woman: "What happens to all mortal beings. Albeit sooner in her case."
Angel: "She'll die? - Then I'm here to beg for her life."

She's the fricken slayer, her lifespan is severely limited anyway. And then Angel seems surprised that she'll die, well DUH Angel, she's a human being...

Ok I had to get that out.
