I know the topic has been butchered to death but...

Did Fred actually love Wesley? Being a fresley shipper I find it odd that she never said the words ''I love you'' to him before, (not that I remember, although some would argue that Ilyria used Freed's memories to tell Wes that Fred DID love him).

so what say you all?

did she or didnt she

I think she loved him. She may not have said it but she never really had enough time in the end...

Yeah,I really think she did,you don't always have to say to someone "I love you" to prove you love them..

I think she loved what she thought Wesley was, but I don't know if she knew him well enough to actually love him. Fred tended to idolize Wesley. I don't think she could love someone she did not understand so I have to say she didn't love him although she thought she did.

very true, but I did always find it odd, that the actual words weren't said, you'd think she would of said it as she was dying...

Ofcourse she loved him. (Who wouldn't :rolleyes2 ) But she didnt' have to say it just to prove it. You could so tell when they were together.

You would think so. Maybe she was interested in him, but didn't really love him yet?

Here's another possiblity. Wesley definitely treated her strangely when she was dying. Instead of talking to her like an equal, he reasured her that everything was going to be ok even as she could feel her body breaking down. He didn't discuss what to do if she died yet obviously believed that she would likely die since he brought the ax to kill Ilyria. Maybe Fred finally realized how complex Wesley was and that she didn't really love him, and so never told him that she did.

More realistically she might not be the type of person who usually tells people that she loves them. I don't remember, but did she tell Gunn that she loved him? I think she did, but don't know. Can anyone find out?

I don't think that Fred really loved Wesley. I think that she loved him as a friend. And I think that she was attracted to him. But love? No, I don't think so.I think that those five years in Pylea had turned Fred into a person who feared loneliness. She had admitted so to Gunn in "Ground State".

Look how fast she clung to Angel as the love of her life, following her rescue from Pylea. And when he shot down the idea of a romance between them, it didn't take her long to turn to Charles. For nearly a year, he became the "knight-in-shining armor" . . . until "Supersymmestry". After that episode, she turns her attention to Wesley. And why not? He had seemed sympathetic toward her attempt to get revenge on Siedel. And he has revised his interest in her, due to his problems with Lilah, after "Slouching Through Bethlehem". But then, Angelus clicked on her "knight" image of Wes immediately, before revealing Wes' affair with Lilah. Revolted, Fred returned her attention to Charles. But the latter ended up dumping her. She tried to renew her relationship with him again, in "Release". And for the second time, Charles dumped her.

The gang deals with the Jasmine situation and then they join Wolfram and Hart. And Fred becomes attracted to Knox. By this time, the mindwipe has really affected Wes, who has forgotten his conversation with Fred in "Players" and the epiphany he had reached that she wasn't the woman for him. But not only does Fred become disenchanted with Knox, she becomes aware that Wes is in love with her in "Lineage". And within a few episodes, she is chasing after Wes. Only she had forgotten to tell Knox that they were through. I get the feeling that she uses Wes as rebound from a breakup "“ in order to stave off her loneliness. She probably loves him as a friend and finds him attractive. But I don't think that she has ever really loved him.

Perfect analysis. You really understand Fred. That is probably the best analysis of her character that I have read!

Of cource Fred loved Wes. Did you see the way they held each other? It was so sweet, I cried so much that ep, I couln't stop seeig Fred spiting-up blood. Yesh.

I don't think so, she may have loved him as a friend/Idealized image but the fact she didn't except his dark side makes me think she didn't really love him. She may have been atracted to him (Who wouldn't) but it was not love.

Without a single doubt, I believe Fred DID love Wesley. Although she never said it to him, Fred did love Wes. All you had to do was look at the way she looked at him. She never got to say it to him while she was alive, because she was crazy from the sickness, but she DID say it to him. I truly believe that Illyria tapped into some part of Fred's memory when she was saying goodbye to Wes. Therefore, yes, Fred did love Wesley. As did we all.

L.L.'s post was thought provoking but in the end I'm a sap so...yeah, she loved him. (Shhhh...I'm quite content in my happy little world)

I think she always loved Wesley in the friend sense... so when they got together I don't think she was far of being in love.

I have to go with what Hitomi and LadyLavina said on this one. I think she loved him as a friend and she may have thought was in love with him, but I don't think it's the ultimate kind of love. Not yet at least. Maybe if they'd gotten into a serious long relationship she might've grown to really love him, but I don't think she fully did yet.
