Discussion of 1.06 "Star Crossed"

I wonder about the Davis thing too... I mean sure you can notice the lack of deaths, but how to pinpoint the reason? I.E. how did he know it was Tru? Hmm. Just wondering.

Well, I loved it too (as every epi). I didn't see the lesbeian thing commin either. The hHarison and Lindsay thing was funny too. But do you tihkn it would have made the show more interesting if they had to try to hide it from Tru? My fav part of this eppisode is when at the end Tru and Luke kiss then the romantic music plays, I laughed so hard! I am totaly into this Davis Tru thing. Like when she gave him the roses at the end. 🙂

For thoes of you who missed the begining. It did pick up at where Davis is telling her how he know. He said he has noticed that less people come into the morge now that she worked there. And he said hes watched her and how she acts. And it wasnt dramatic or anyhting, but now they work as a team to figure out hpw to save the person from dying.
The whole lesbian thing was a shocker but kinda gross bcus i expected it to be that guy and girl together. They totaly fooled me on that one.

Agree with everything that was said, but I don't think this one was my favorite. It has some "cheese" moments but the plot twist at the end definitely cancelled out the bad for me. I still say the fireman ep was the best, and him and Tru had ten times more chemistry than her and Luke. When Tru and the fireguy talked, all I was thinking was "get together! KISS!!" With Luke it's like "eh...over it". I don't know. But props to the writers for keeping a show with a premise that could've gotten old WAY fast, interesting!

btw--I think Davis is kinda creepy! Don't get me wrong, he has his moments of "aww"...but just the way he looks at Tru....I don't know it bugs me out lol.

You'd probably most remember her as 'Becca' from The Ring, the girl who talked about the video tape at the beginning of the movie who later ends up in the mental ward after seeing her friend die.

Here's a pic of her from The Ring:

I knew she looked familiar! I thought she was good in The Ring.. even if I didn't care too much for the movie. 🙂

I write Tru Calling reviews for a couple things, so I thought I would post my latest one here. If you guys want me to post my review here every week, feel free to drop me a line and let me know. I welcome the feedback!

Episode 1x06 Starcrossed

I've said it once, I'll say it again. This show gets better and better each week. This weeks episode was no exception. It had action, suspense, and a twist I never saw coming. It also showed the growing bond between Tru and Davis. It's almost as if he's her watcher in a sense. It's nice to see her have some help on her missions.
Tru posed as a high school student to prevent the deaths of 2 students in what appeared to be a "romeo and juliet" type deal. She even endangered her own life to save theirs. But much like the audience watching with anticipation, Tru didn't see the real truth either. It wasn't the boy and girl who were in love, it was 2 girls. The girlfriend of the boy and another girl. Nice twist there. I totally didn't see it coming. Which is why I feel this show will start gaining more audience. It pulls you in, as you, along with Tru try to solve the circumstances of the deaths. Then when you think you've figured it out, BAM! something you never saw coming. I like that they are doing this. It keeps you interested right til the very end, then you are craving more.
Another difference this episode was the fact that Tru actually went to the scene of the crimes to retrieve the bodies. They asked for her help then, instead of the same old morgue scenes.
Davis had some great moments in this episode. He is so funny! And also knows way more than we think he does. How he knows about Tru's gift is still not known, but he helped her out this time. And the touching moment at the end when Tru gave him her flowers and thanked him for helping her deal with her secret was very sweet.
Harrison and Lindsay. I just have to say, I kinda saw this coming, altho I totally didn't think they'd have hooked up in Tru's apartment. This was a very funny scene.
Luc. He and Tru finally had a date, altho not without incident and her having to run off in the middle of it. But finally at the end, they shared their first kiss. The swelling music as they kissed at the end was very reminiscent of OMWF (the Buffy Musical). I'm still not too keen on the romance card. I think they are trying too hard to play it. But maybe he'll grow on me. Only time will tell.
I do recommend if you haven't watched this show, you give it a chance. It's quickly becoming a great series with potential to become a cult classic.

Funny quotes worth mentioning:

Quote 1
Davis: This is cool. We're kinda like a team
Tru: A team?
Davis: Yeah, like the wonder twins. Except we're not twins, and well I don't have any superpowers.

Quote 2:
Tru: Davis, Remember how I said this was Romeo and Juliet? I was wrong, its Juliet and Juliet.

My fave ep was definitely "Putting Out Fires." Nick and Tru oozed chemistry. I believe I literally yelled several times, "Kiss already, damnit!" I do think it was good that they had the character die. It really worked. But why kill off one love interest just to have a new one appear five seconds later? I just don't see it with Luc. It seems so forced, imho. I don't see a spark. That's the only way they'll get me to care about a love interest on any show. I need to see some serious/natural sparkage. It can't be written and it can't be faked.

i agree too fast for her to have a love interest already..!!!! i finally saw the show and i liked the episode..!! next weeks looks interesting..!!

i agree....the whole Luc thing is starting to bother me.....it seems like they are putting them together just so she has someone....and i agree it does seem forced......and with the firefighter it didn't....it's kinda bothering me...they need to realize it is okay for her to not have a boyfriend right now...she has other stuff going on right now.

I'm a Tru and Davis shipper. Why can't a geek like me get the babe once in a while? My sister says Davis is just trying to get a real life, but we both think he loves her.

I agree that there must be more to how Davis knows what's going on. I was expecting something more dramatic, as I'm sure all of you were. They played that way down. I guess that's all there could be to it, but that would be disappointing. He could have put together her weird comments and "theoretical" scenarios, with the reduction of the death rate. He's a smart guy. Still, I think there has to be more. Did it happen to him when he started working there, and when it stopped he figured she must be the one taking over? Does it happen to every employee in her position?

Where has Meredith been?

There's a few things I don't like. I don't like the flashing scenes, though the one when she goes back in time is important. It's like they are trying to waste some time. I don't like that the names in the credits don't have shots of the actors, like they did it in Buffy. It's nice to see who they're talking about without having to scan the web for a clue! I like how you never know what's going to happen in the end. You always think it's cut and dry, then they throw you a curve ball. I'm glad that Tru learned not to go around accusing everyone without proof, and is starting to think about things for a while. It makes sense that she started out that way, with the disorientation she must have felt. I agree that sometimes they stress the boyfriend thing. People don't have love interests every second of their lives, and don't necessarily think about it every second of their lives if they don't have it. That's a common problem on TV. Everyone is either in love, or looking desperately for love.

I hope this show stays around too!

yea the boyfriend thing is really starting to bother me.....i hope there are no wierd moments with her and luc tonight.....i don't know..we'll find out.

Well, just to make Tru's love life more confusing, I just read that Jason Priestly (90210) is going to be joining the show. He'll be playing a morgue employee, so you can bet the writers will try to add some heat between the two.

I'm a little late to the party on this one because I wasn't able to watch this ep until today. But I also got to watch this week's right after it. If Joan of Arcadia wasn't a repeat, I'd be in heaven 🙂

whitenight922- I was expecting more from how Davis found out about Tru's secret. Maybe it will come out later on, I dunno. I like the opening credits but I agree that they should show clips of the actors/actresses when their name comes on so you know who they are. What's wrong with the flashing scenes? I dont mind them.
